seems to be an issue with windows live messenger.
it seems hotmail messages try to invoke it on the users machine and somehow my "messenger" on this machine is not working properly.
even when i try to open it intentioanlly, the "windows installer" comes up and stays like that for a long time.
i will try to uninstall and install again to see if the problem resolves itself.
reinstalling msn messenger solved the issue.
sorry to have bothered you with this.
only other thing now is that after machine goes into screen saver mode, when i try to get back into my desktop it freezes up for a few mins and only then brings up the screen where i have to select my profile to get into the desktop.
might be an issue with zonealarm so will try some other product to verify.
