On my other computer we suddenly got this wallpaper message on his computer. Websites now half load, we can't download any anti-virus programs. We installed AVG using a CD but it is unable to update. If the computer sits with no activity to long we get a blue screen instead of the screensaver.

Also just noticed that under Display Properties the Desktop and Screensaver Tabs are now missing

Seeing that Strawtree1000 is being assisted with same issue by TomK, I followed the combofix instruction but I got a rootkit message. Only choice I had was to reboot.

Since strawtree1000 posted the identical problem shortly after me, I have been following TomK's instructions. I am still stuck on the rootkit problem. I have googled and search everywhere including here. downloaded rootkit removers but nothing is working. I have been working on this non-stop :pullhair:
I finally give up, time to reformat. :wavey:
I'm sorry you had to reformat.
Something to keep in mind that Tomk and most all of us say.

The fixes are specific to your problem and should only be used for the issues on this machine.

To go and use some of the tools we use without a bit of training can be very harmful to your system. This especially applies to combofix. It is a powerful tool.

I will now close this topic as you have reformatted.
