Please help me!

XP will download but not install service pack 3. This is sugnificantly effecting the performance of startup time and program speed. If anyone has suggestions it will help. Thank you Sam

Have you checked the pre-installation guide there are some updates that if installed you wont be able to run SP3 Secondly do you get an error when you try to install SP3?

Also, installing SP3 WILL NOT help your performance problems.

Instead of installing SP3 from Windows Update, use the .EXE or .ISO version.

Thank you for your resonses. I will take another look at the prerecs for installing Srv Pack 3. I did get a message, "unable to copy file", "try a different location". when I try to place in another location it tells me invalid location and will not let me advance. If installing Srv Pack 3 will not help performance issues what can I do to solve them? Please help.

Hi, As you have posted a HJT log over in the malware removal forum, it would be wise not to attempt any system changes at all until you have received the advice of a malware removal expert. (system changes now would make the malware fighters job more difficult than it already is and probably render your existing HJT log obsolete) Although its tough waiting for a response it would not be wise to attempt a major service pack 3 upgrade at this time. I've replied to your HJT topic, pscorder. One thing that most likely is using a ton of resources is Roxio. You can start most of it's applications manually when needed.
