I have run Panda Online, SAS and AVG 8 is up-to-date, all three come up blank but something is lurking there as FF goes haywire when I start my PC.

I am running Win XP SP2, I have IE 7 and FF 2.0.0.14

Here is my HJT thread that I just ran. I appreciate all the help!

Cheers

Paul

hi pctyler94,

I have run an updated SAS, and I too noticed nothing in the log, but when the laptop starts up, FF keeps popping up new pages, all in the same bland generic style, but it is almost impossible to stop it, also it looks like FF is being run by system and not user (in task manager user name is system).

Now I just updated to SP3 and I didn't notice any more FF browser launches when I started so I will keep an eye on it, but there is somethingf amiss as the pages that are launched are not standard home pages.

Cheers

Paul

do the pages open up to a website? whats the URL?

multiple different websites. all generic, I don't know the websites off hand, but when they pop up again I will post them.
dont worry about posting them. they must be real external web sites from what you say. any other signs of malware like pop ups, page redirections, false security warnings? do they only appear when you start FF up?
hjt log looks ok and you have run antimalware apps. we could get one more download to look for malware on your machine or you could reinstall FF with the latest version (3.0.1) following the directions here:

http://kb.mozillazine.org/Uninstalling_Firefox

or you could poke around here for any clues:
http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Support+Website+Forums

on second thought i would be interested in seeing the pages that are opened up. just pick out 2 or 3 at random and copy/paste the URL from the address bar in your reply
