Hi there :)

Firstly, I am both a newbie to this website & not technically trained. Yes I've be using computers since the 80s for both business & home use & have been able to resolve many probs in the past by searching for solutions & following them carefully & very cautiously. But I'm now out of my depth with the below.

My computer has caught the latest website virus that's going around …. Net-Worm.JS.Aspxor.a

My Zonealarm Anti-Virus program Version 7.0.483 has detected it twice now from the same website.
The first time, last Fri. 1/8/08, it quarantined it but couldn't repair it, so I deleted it from my computer. I did inform the owner of the website of the problem & after quite some time he was able to fix it - until yesterday that is.
Then yesterday, Wed. 6/8/08, I contracted it again when visiting the same website (which I have been visiting several times a day for the past 3.5 yrs). But my Zonealarm Anti-Virus program did not alert me to the infection. Instead my scheduled scan detected it an hour later.

My prob is my scan results say that I can no longer treat the virus as "repair" nor "quarantine". So I chose the "delete" treatment & deleted all 236 files to no avail. Apparently the virus "could not be removed & may still be active or infected". I now have the remaining treatment options of "rename", "delete on reboot", "ignore always" and "ignore once" - none of these options sound like a safe way of removing the virus from my computer.

I've tried searching for solutions for removing it on various anti-virus websites incl. Zonealarm, Nortons, TrendMicro & MacAfee but none of them even have it listed let alone given a solution. So I'm following Zonealarm's Help suggestion of googling the virus name & removal & came up with your site amongst various others - & I noticed that other ppl have also suffered the same virus.

I've run various tools on my system incl Registry Mechanic, Windows Safety Centre Live, Spybot Search & Destroy - all to no avail.

So I've downloaded & run HijackThis program & below is my saved log file. I hope you can help me - I'm scared to shut down my computer for fear of what this virus might do to my computer!

Hey thanks so much, the est scan seems to have done the trick! :woot: Here's the scan results: # version=4 # OnlineScanner.ocx=1.0.0.635 # OnlineScannerDLLA.dll=1, 0, 0, 79 # OnlineScannerDLLW.dll=1, 0, 0, 78 # OnlineScannerUninstaller.exe=1, 0, 0, 49 # vers_standard_module=3344 (20080810) # vers_arch_module=1.064 (20080214) # vers_adv_heur_module=1.066 (20070917) # EOSSerial=686f25cd34f167498ea44304f14bb05f # end=finished # remove_checked=true # unwanted_checked=true # utc_time=2008-08-11 05:59:22 # local_time=2008-08-11 03:59:22 (+1000, AUS Eastern Standard Time) # country="Australia" # osver=5.1.2600 NT Service Pack 2 # scanned=300433 # found=0 # scan_time=6597 I think it basically says that there's no threats evident on my computer - is that right? :) Really appreciate your helping me! Thank you!! :D
hi nellyone,

that there's no threats evident on my computer - is that right?

right but i would also run your resident updated antivirus also which looks to be a norton product? looks like you have a zone alarm antivirus also?
two isnt better than one with antivirus, only one is needed on a computer. if you have both i would remove one via the add/remove programs panel.
once it all looks good on your end we can finish up.
Well actually Zonealarm is my resident firewall & anti-virus program. Nortons was my previous defence system & I did uninstall it when I bought & installed Zonealarm, so I can only think these files might be left over from a reload onto my system (from a back up) when it crashed a while back. I can't find any nortons products listed in the add/remove programs panel, nor can I find an unstall file amongst the nortons program files. Do you think it best if I just deleted all the old Nortons files? Thanks N
hi,

if I just deleted all the old Nortons files?

no if you can't see any norton product in the add/remove panel, then thats good enough.

we can check this:
go to start>run and type in the window: services.msc and click ok. windows service panel will open.
in the list of services that comes up, under the name column look for:

Symantec Core LC

right click on it and select properties.
under the general tab:
make sure that the service status is: Stopped, if not click the Stop button
and the Startup type is: disabled, if not change it to disable
click apply, then ok
hi,

i forgot about this. norton has a uninstaller for some of its products. wouldnt hurt to run it if it applies to you:
