Hello.

I am an online gamer who has had his passwords keylogged and stolen. My online accounts hyjacked and just totally screwed up. Running spyware doctor finding all kinds of stuff. Tried removing and searching registry but this thing is too smart for me. :(
i have had some success before with removal of adware/malware but i'm really at a loss. Can someone take pity on me and help me….its very frustrating. Thank you in advance.

Hi blindking, and Welcome to WhatTheTech

My name is Tomk. I would be glad to take a look at your log and help you with solving any malware problems. HijackThis logs can take a while to research, so please be patient and I'd be grateful if you would note the following:

  • I will working be on your Malware issues, this may or may not, solve other issues you have with your machine.
  • The fixes are specific to your problem and should only be used for the issues on this machine.
  • Please continue to review my answers until I tell you your machine appears to be clear. Absence of symptoms does not mean that everything is clear.
  • It's often worth reading through these instructions and printing them for ease of reference.
  • If you don't know or understand something, please don't hesitate to say or ask!! It's better to be sure and safe than sorry.
  • Please reply to this thread. Do not start a new topic.

You aren't running Anti Virus Software

Anti-virus software are programs that detect, cleanse, and erase harmful virus files on a computer, Web server, or network.
Unchecked, virus files can unintentionally be forwarded to others, including trading partners and thereby spreading infection. Because new viruses regularly emerge, anti-virus software should be updated frequently. Anti-virus software can scan the computer memory and disk drives for malicious code. They can alert the user if a virus is present, and will clean, delete (or quarantine) infected files or directories. Please download a free anti-virus software (for personal use), from one these excellent vendors NOW:

1) Antivir PersonalEditionClassic
-Free anti-virus software for Windows.
-Detects and removes more than 50,000 viruses. Free support.
2) avast! 4 Home Edition
-Anti-virus program for Windows.
-The home edition is freeware for noncommercial user
3) AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition
- Free edition of the AVG anti-virus program for Windows.
- Available for single computer use for home and non commercial use.

It is strongly recommended that you run only one antivirus program at a time. Having more than one antivirus program active in memory uses additional resources and can result in program conflicts and false virus alerts.

Next

A. Please download ComboFix by sUBs from HERE or HERE directly to your Desktop.

Note: If you already have ComboFix on your machine, please DELETE it from your desktop before downloading the newest version.

B. Now we must disable some of your security programs so that they do not interfere with the running of our tools:

SPYWARE DOCTOR
  • Click the Spyware Doctor icon in the System Tray.
  • Click Settings.
  • Click Startup Settings under Pick a Category.
  • Uncheck "Run at Windows startup".
  • Click Apply and Exit Spyware Doctor.
  • From within Spyware Doctor, click the "OnGuard" button on the left side.
  • Uncheck "Activate OnGuard".
  • (When we are done, you can reenable Spyware Doctor)

If you chose AVAST
Right click on the avast! icon in system tray (looks like this: [external image: Posted Image]) and choose (Stop On-Access Protection)

If you chose AVG
Please open the AVG Control Center program -> double-click on the "AVG Resident Shield" component (looks like this: [external image: Posted Image]) -> deselect the "Turn on AVG Resident Shield" checkmark and save the setting.
When you need to enable the AVG Resident Shield, ( I’ll let you know when) just open the AVG Control Center program -> double-click on the "AVG Resident Shield" component -> select the "Turn on AVG Resident Shield" checkmark and save the setting.

AVIRA ANTIVIR
Please navigate to the system tray on the bottom right hand corner and look for an open white umbrella on red background (looks to this: [external image: Posted Image] )
  • right click it-> untick the option AntiVir Guard enable.
  • You should now see a closed, white umbrella on a red background (looks to this: [external image: Posted Image] )
You succesfully disabled the AntiVir Guard.

C.Go to [external image: Posted Image] -> Run -> copy/paste the following single line command in the runbox & click OK

"%userprofile%\desktop\combofix.exe" /killall

[external image: Posted Image]
  • DO NOT USE your computer for any other purpose while ComboFix is running.
  • ComboFix may restart your computer, this is normal.
  • When finished, it will produce a log, ComboFix.txt.
  • Please post ComboFix.txt in your next reply along with a new HijackThis log.

Notes:

1. Do not mouse-click Combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.
2. Do not "re-run" Combofix. If you have a problem, reply back for further instructions.
3. ComboFix may reset a number of Internet Explorer's settings, including making I-E the default browser.
4. Combofix prevents autorun of ALL CD, floppy and USB devices to assist with malware removal & increase security. If this is an issue or makes it difficult for you – please tell your helper.
5. CF disconnects your machine from the internet. The connection is automatically restored before CF completes its run. If CF runs into difficulty and terminates prematurely, the connection can be manually restored by restarting your machine.
Thank you so very much for the help. I will be following your instructions and watching the forums all weekend and all week if i need to for your replies.

blindking,

Your computer appears to have been infected by a backdoor trojan. These programs have the ability to steal passwords and other information from your system. If you use your computer for sensitive purposes such as internet banking then I recommend you take the following steps immediately:
  • Use another, uninfected computer to change all your internet passwords, especially ones with financial implications such as banks, paypal, ebay, etc. You should also change the passwords for any other site you use.
  • Call your bank(s), credit card company or any other institution which may be affected and advise them that your login/password or credit card information may have been stolen and ask what steps to take with regard to your account.
  • Consider what other private information could possibly have been taken from your computer and take appropriate steps
This infection can almost certainly be cleaned, but as the malware could be configured to run any program a remote attacker requires, it will be impossible to be 100% sure that the machine is clean, if this is unacceptable to you then you should consider reformatting the system partition and reinstalling Windows as this is the only 100% sure answer.

If you wish to reformat then please let me know in your next response, I'll now continue with instructions for cleaning.

Disable your protection programs as we did before.

  • Please open HijackThis and run Do a system scan only
  • Check the boxes next to ONLY the entries listed below(if present):
    • R3 - URLSearchHook: Yahoo! Toolbar - {EF99BD32-C1FB-11D2-892F-0090271D4F88} - (no file)

  • Close all programs except for HijackThis.
  • Click on Fix checked
  • A box will pop up asking you if you wish to fix the selected items. Please choose YES.
  • Once it has fixed them, please exit/close HijackThis.

Next

COMBOFIX-Script

  • Please open Notepad (Start -> Run -> type notepad in the Open field -> OK) and copy and paste the text present inside the code box below:

    KILLALL::

    File::
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\mssjfilejf.dll
    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\ruxehavi.dat
    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\xuwafajaw.bat
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\ikotybilyt.lib
    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\kiqavol.bin
    C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0_11\bin\jusched.exe
    C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe
    C:\Program Files\Yahoo!\Messenger\YahooMessenger.exe
    C:\Program Files\Download Manager\DLM.exe

    Driver::
    adxapie
  • Save this as CFScript.txt and change the "Save as type" to "All Files" and place it on your desktop.

    [external image: Posted Image]
  • Very Important! Temporarily disable your anti-virus, script blocking and any anti-malware real-time protection before following the steps below. They can interfere with ComboFix or remove some of its embedded files which may cause "unpredictable results".
  • Referring to the screenshot above, drag CFScript.txt into ComboFix.exe.
  • ComboFix will now run a scan on your system. It may reboot your system when it finishes. This is normal.
  • When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Copy and paste the contents of the log in your next reply.
CAUTION: Do not mouse-click ComboFix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

Then

Please go to Kaspersky website and perform an online antivirus scan.

  • Read through the requirements and privacy statement and click on Accept button.
  • It will start downloading and installing the scanner and virus definitions. You will be prompted to install an application from Kaspersky. Click Run.
  • When the downloads have finished, click on Settings.
  • Make sure these boxes are checked (ticked). If they are not, please tick them and click on the Save button:
    • Spyware, Adware, Dialers, and other potentially dangerous programs
      Archives
      Mail databases
  • Click on My Computer under Scan.
  • Once the scan is complete, it will display the results. Click on View Scan Report.
  • You will see a list of infected items there. Click on Save Report As….
  • Save this report to a convenient place. Change the Files of type to Text file (.txt) before clicking on the Save button.
  • Please post this log in your next reply.

Do these entries mean anything to you?
C:\QQ,”DOx™¯dD€IŽ,úñI†x™x¦¯¯’ö.url
C:\DJO“A™I.url

In your next reply please provide:
  • ComboFix.txt
  • Kaspersky report
  • New HijackThis log taken after everything else completed
These weird symbols look like the symbols that sometimes come up when i open a browser page….my home page is google….and sometimes i open up a page and google comes up, then in a new explorer page a bunch of that weird txt comes up…or sometimes it takes me to some textbox website.

Update your AntiVirus Software - It is imperative that you update your Antivirus software at least once a week
(Even more if you wish). If you do not update your antivirus software then it will not be able to catch any of the new variants that may come out.

Use a Firewall - I can not stress how important it is that you use a Firewall on your computer.
Without a firewall your computer is succeptible to being hacked and taken over.
I am very serious about this and see it happen almost every day with my clients.
Simply using a Firewall in its default configuration can lower your risk greatly.

For a tutorial on Firewalls and a listing of some available ones see the link below:

Understanding and Using Firewalls

Keep Microsoft Windows Updated - This will ensure your computer has always the latest security updates available installed on your computer. The easiest way to do this is to turn on Automatic Updates. Do this by:
  • From your desktop, right-click on My Computer,
  • click on Properties
  • Select the Automatic Updates tab
  • Click on Automatic
  • Click on Apply button
  • Click on OK to exit.
If there are new updates to install, install them immediately, until there are no more critical updates.

Install SpywareBlaster - SpywareBlaster will add a large list of programs and sites into your Internet Explorer
settings that will protect you from running and downloading known malicious programs.

A tutorial on installing & using this product can be found here:

Using SpywareBlaster to protect your computer from Spyware and Malware

IE-SPYAD puts over 5000 sites in your restricted zone so you'll be protected when you visit innocent-looking sites that aren't actually innocent at all.

Using IE-SPYAD to help block unwanted sites and activities

Winpatrol

Update all these programs regularly - Make sure you update all the programs I have listed regularly.
Without regular updates you WILL NOT be protected when new malicious programs are released.

Only run one Anti-Virus and Firewall program.

I would also suggest you read this:
So how did I get infected in the first place?
by Tony Klein

Please respond back that you understand the above and let me know if you have any questions. Otherwise, this thread will be closed Resolved.
hmmm i ran the Avast anti-virus again just to see if it would run clean after a reboot…and got at least one hit. (trojan) It is still running…and i'm off to bed. Will wake up early, look over the results and post them. I think we are narrowing in on it.
ok…apparently i didnt have it set up to produce a log text file. But in the log viewer it reads: "Sign of "Win32:Spyware-gen[Trj]" has been found in "C:\system volume information\_restore[83E23464-2ED0-4BB4-A511-92B0DBEDEC86}-\RP477\A0071296.dll"file. i have uninstalled all my instant messenger programs.
blindking,

i have uninstalled all my instant messenger programs.

I was just curious if you had used QQ instant messenger because I was curious about an entry in your log. There isn't any problem if you have had it. I don't know of any malware problems associated with instant messenger programs.

"Sign of "Win32:Spyware-gen[Trj]" has been found in "C:\system volume information\_restore[83E23464-2ED0-4BB4-A511-92B0DBEDEC86}-\RP477\A0071296.dll"file.

That entry is in your system restore. This will get reset when you perform the housekeeping as suggested in post #6
Oh…ok hehe i have done the un-install of combofix. I have my one virus program going and have downloaded a better firewall program. i think we are all set. I cant thank you enough for all your help and attention. I'm so happy there is a website like this….a resourse for people to go to and get they so very much need. thanks again :)
