Hello, this machine had a lot of spyware on it and most seems to be gone now. I followed the steps outlined before posting this log so those may have removed the bad things. Any help getting stubborn suckers gone would be very appreciated.

I also have the log file from the AVG anti-virus. It is really long though and mostly cookies. Please let me know if you need it.

Here is the Hijackthis log file:

You need to update SunJava for security reasons.
Updating Java:
Download the latest version of
Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6u2
  • Scroll down to where it says "Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6u1... allows end-users to run Java applications".
  • Click the "Download" button to the right.
  • Check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement".
  • Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation with or without Multi-language and save to your desktop.
  • Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
  • Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on Add/Remove programs and remove all older versions of Java.
  • Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name. It should have the Posted Image icon next to it.
  • Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
  • Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java versions.
  • Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
  • Then from your desktop double-click on jre-6u2-windows-i586-p.exe to install the newest version.

I see that Viewpoint is installed.

Viewpoint, Viewpoint Manager, Viewpoint Media Player are Viewpoint components which are installed as a side effect of installing other software, most notably AOL and AOL Instant Messenger (AIM). Viewpoint Manager is responsible for managing and updating Viewpoint Media Player’s components. Viewpoint Manager is considered as foistware instead of malware since it is installed without user's approval but doesn't spy or do anything "bad". In 2006, this may change, read Viewpoint to Plunge Into Adware.

I suggest you remove the program now. Go to Start > Settings > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and remove the following programs if present:
  • Viewpoint
  • Viewpoint Manager
  • Viewpoint Media Player
If AOL is present, to prevent it from being recreated every time you run the AOL software:
  • Open AOL
  • Go to Help on the toolbar
  • Select About AOL
  • Hit Ctrl D and a secret panel can be accessed which will allow you to disable all desktop and IM features associated with Viewpoint.
Another way to prevent Viewpoint from being recreated every time you run the AOL software is:
  • Click C:\Program Files\AOL 9.0\Jiti (a hidden folder).
  • Rename viewpoint.exe to viewpoint.old.
This is the item to fix in HijackThis.

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ViewMgr] C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\Viewpoint Manager\ViewMgr.exe

Thanks for the quick response.

That UOEB20.EXE file was nowhere to be found so I couldn't do anything with that.

I removed the old Java and installed the newest from your link.

I also removed all ViewPoint software. This computer doesn't have AOL, but it does have AIM. I found that viewpoint.exe in C:\Program Files\AIM\Sysfiles and renamed it to viewpoint.old

amata.local is the correct domain for this machine.

After all this, here is the new hijackthis log file:

C:\WINDOWS\TEMP\NO5655.EXE Is now in your running processes. Something is causing a new .exe file to open and change itself. Not necessarily bad but needs to be investigated.

If you haven't shut down the computer since your last HJT log. Do the following.
If you have restarted chances are it has renamed itself and this exe file has changed again.

_____________________________
Submit a file to Jotti
Please go here : http://virusscan.jotti.org/
On top of the page there is a field to add the filepath, copy and paste this filepath:

C:\WINDOWS\TEMP\NO5655.EXE

Then hit Submit
The scan will take a while before the result comes up so please be patient.
Then copy the result and post it here in this thread.

If Jotti's service load is too high, you can use the following scanner instead:
http://www.virustota...l/index_en.html

Please do an online scan with Kaspersky Online Scanner
Click on Kaspersky Online Scanner
You will be promted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, Click Yes.
The program will launch and then start to download the latest definition files.
Once the scanner is installed and the definitions downloaded, click Next.
Now click on Scan Settings
In the scan settings make sure that the following are selected:
Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:

Extended (If available otherwise Standard)
Scan Options:
Scan Archives
Scan Mail Bases
Click OK

Now under select a target to scan select My Computer

Note for Internet Explorer 7 users: If at any time you have trouble with the accept button of the licence, click on the Zoom tool located at the right bottom of the IE window and set the zoom to 75 %. Once the license accepted, reset to 100%.

The scan will take a while so be patient and let it run. Once the scan is complete it will display if your system has been infected.

Now click on the Save as Text button:

Save the file to your desktop.

Copy and paste that information in your next post.

That file does rename itself. I remember seeing it before and it is in fact part of the Trend Micro OfficeScan client. I will try to run the other scans when I have time, but I think this computer is good to go. Thanks for all your help.

Your right.

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [OfficeScanNT Monitor] "C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\Client Server Security Agent\pccntmon.exe"

Is the culprit for this.
You are clean at this point.

They are still getting pop-ups from "WinAntiSpyware" consistently. Any idea where this is coming from? I am currently running the Kaspersky Online scanner.

Sorry I have missed something quite simple. :rant2:

Rename Hijackthis.exe:
Right click on hijackthis and choose rename:
Rename it to noname:

Post a new HJT log( renamed)

Please download VundoFix.exe to your desktop.
Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
Click the Scan for Vundo button.
Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
When completed, it will prompt that it will shutdown your computer, click OK.
Turn your computer back on.
Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt and a new HiJackThis log.

Post a new HJT log along withthe results from Vundo fix.

Look in your control panels add/remove programs for any of these and uninstall them:

Oin
Yazzle by Oin
Purityscan by Oin
Snowballwars by Oin
or anything similar with Oin or Outerinfo in it.
Zolero
Tizzletalk
MediaTickets
Cowabanga
and any other programs you didn't install or don't recognize - if your not sure please ask first

Download and run this uninstaller:
http://www.outerinfo...Uninstaller.exe

Tutorial for the uninstaller if needed

Now install MVPS HOSTS:

Download and unzip hosts.zip from HERE to a folder (hosts).

When you get a chance please read more about what we are doing HERE.

Here's a Tutorial on how to install it, but it's installed like this:

Open up the hosts folder and double-click on the mvps.bat file, it will rename your present HOSTS file to HOSTS.MVP, then it will copy the new HOSTS file to the correct location on your machine. It happens very quickly so don't blink!
