My home page was hijacked by MSN.com after I downloaded some items from their website. Would Microsoft really do this or did someone else get involved.

The home page that I would like reset to is google.com. I am using Norton anti-virus, Spybot and SuperAntiSpyware.

Here is my scan results from HijackThis. Can anyone help me out? Thanks…

Sorry about the delay in responding :(

If you still need help, Scan again with HijackThis, and "copy/paste" a new log file into this thread.

Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.
My computer is behaving quite normal now except for the fact that I cannot set my Home Page back to Google.com.

I had a computer guy change me back to IE6 from IE7; I was having all sorts of issues with scripting errors. Once my computer gets completely back to normal I am thinking of switching to Firefox; any comments?

Here is the new thread that I just ran…thank you very much for responding!

Let see what we find.

Stay with this topic until I give you the all clean post.

You might want to print these instructions out.

I suggest you do this:

Double-click My Computer.
Click the Tools menu, and then click Folder Options.
Click the View tab.
Clear "Hide file extensions for known file types."
Under the "Hidden files" folder, select "Show hidden files and folders."
Clear "Hide protected operating system files."
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Please do not delete anything unless instructed to.

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune.
Download - ATF Cleaner»
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Under Main choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.

(If you use FireFox or the Opera browser
To keep saved passwords, click No at the prompt.)

It's normal after running ATF cleaner that the PC will be slower to boot the first time or two.

Next:

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your desktop.

  • Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
  • At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select Perform quick scan, then click Scan.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected .
  • When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please save it to a convenient location and post the results.
  • Note: If you receive a notice that some of the items couldn't be removed, that they have been added to the delete on reboot list, please reboot.
Also "copy/paste" a new HijackThis log file into this thread.

Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.
OK, I am back. Sorry about the long delay but I was out-of-town almost all of last week.

Here are the postings that you requested.

My computer is behaving normally except for the hijacked home page. I would like my original home page set back to google.com.

Thank you for helping me out!

I do not see any option to "lock IE start page section." I spent some time searching in other places on Spybot but I don't see anything.
Did you check in Teatimer? A few of the other programs now doing this are: Ad-aware's Ad-Watch McAfee VirusScan and/or Antispyware Norton AV Spyware Blaster Spybot> Tools> IE Tweaks Spybot- Teatimer Spysweeper Windows Defender Zone Alarm (free) 6.5 Reported to be fixed in later versions. In the case of Zone Alarm 6.5 it actually has to be uninstalled. Make sure the Windows Firewall is turned on until you reinstall Zone Alarm. Boot into Safe Mode with Networking with Networking and try the change.
FIXED, FIXED, FIXED…. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!! I unchecked the box in Norton AV and reset my homepage and it works now! I owe you a beer!
