Hi, I am getting a strange pop-up when I log in everytime into my computer. I am getting a message stating a certain DLL file is missing. I am new at this hence do not know how to get this fixed. I have an antivirus installed on my computer - NOD32. When I last scanned my antivirus it gave me a virus alert. I went to the location and deleted all the files in that location. But I keep getting this pop-up message a lot. I am attaching a word file with the error message that I am getting and the NOD32 log screen. Please assist me with my query. When I try to open certain websites they keep on loading but don't open up. I am facing this problem with google, yahoo and hotmail websites. Thanks, Questor

Hi

Download Deckard's System Scanner (DSS) to your Desktop. Note: You must be logged onto an account with administrator privileges.
  • Close all applications and windows.
  • Double-click on dss.exe to run it, and follow the prompts.
  • For Vista users, right-click DSS and select Run As Administrator
  • If asked to install HijackThis click on Yes
  • When the scan is complete, two text files will open - main.txt <- this one will be maximized and extra.txt<-this one will be minimized
  • Copy (Ctrl+A then Ctrl+C) and paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of main.txt and the extra.txt in your next reply
Hi Scotty,

I was getting a bit impatient yesterday before you reply, hence was playing around with Hijack this after reading a few posts. I ran the scan and deleted the dll file that used to pop up when I used to log in. Now when I log in the pop up error messages do not come anymore. However my system is a tad slower than before.. meaning response time.. Not sure though if I removed the virus completely.

Thanks for your post. I have downloaded DSS and ran the tool. As requested please find below the log files.

Hi

We have noticed that most people seeking help from us are coming with infections contracted from the use of P2P programs.

Because of this, we felt we needed to change our policy on the use of P2P file sharing programs.
  • If your helper detects the presence of such programs on your computer he/she will ask you to remove them. We will withdraw our help should you not agree to their removal.
  • If we clean your computer of infection, and you return to us a short time later with an infection contracted by the use of P2P programmes, we will refuse our help.

We do not ask you to do this without reason.

P2P programs form a direct conduit onto your computer, their security measures are easily circumvented, and Malware writers are increasingly exploiting them to spread their wares onto your computer. Further to that, if your P2P programme is not configured correctly you may be sharing more files than you realise. There have been cases where people's Passwords, Address Books and other personal, private, and financial details have been exposed to the file sharing network by a badly configured programme.

This article from InfoWorld illustrates perfectly the dangers of a poorly configured P2P program.
http://www.infoworld.com/article/07/09/06/…ID-theft_1.html

Many of the programs come bundled with other unwanted programs, but even the ones free of any bundled software are not safe to use.

When you use them you are downloading software from an unknown source directly onto your computer, bypassing your Firewall and Anti-Virus software. Hardly surprising then that many of these Downloads are being targeted to carry infections.

We see no purpose in cleaning your machine if you use P2P programs, as it is pretty much certain that if you continue to use them then you will get infected again.

You have the following P-2-P program(s) installed
Limewire

This is how you uninstall it/them:

  • Click Start
  • Go to Control Panel
  • Go to Add/Remove Programs
  • Find and click Remove for the following (if present):

    Limewire

NOTE: Take care when answering any questions posed by an uninstaller. Some questions may be worded to deceive you into keeping the program.

Download Flash_Disinfector from here and save it to your desktop.
Doubleclick on Flash_Disinfector.exe to run it and follow the prompts.
Wait until it has finished scanning and then exit the program.
The utility may ask you to insert your flash drive and/or other removable drives. This may include your mobile phone.
Please do so and allow the utility to clean up those drives as well.

If you already have Combofix, please delete this copy and download it again as it's being updated regularly.

Please visit this webpage for download links, and instructions for running the tool:

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/combofix/how-to-use-combofix

Please ensure you read this guide carefully and install the Recovery Console first.

The Windows Recovery Console will allow you to boot up into a special recovery (repair) mode. This allows us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware. It is a simple procedure that will only take a few moments of your time.

Once Recovery Console is installed, you should see a blue screen prompt like the one below:

[external image: Posted Image]

Click Yes to allow Combofix to continue scanning for malware.

When done, a log will be produced. Please post that log and a new HijackThis log in your next reply.

1.Do not mouse-click Combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.
2. ComboFix may reset a number of Internet Explorer's settings, including making I-E the default browser.
3. Combofix prevents autorun of ALL CD, floppy and USB devices to assist with malware removal & increase security. If this is an issue or makes it difficult for you – please tell your helper.
4. CF disconnects your machine from the internet. The connection is automatically restored before CF completes its run. If CF runs into difficulty and terminates prematurely, the connection can be manually restored by restarting your machine.
