Hi,

Back in May 2008, my mother's PC [XP Pro SP2] was infected by a Backdoor.IRC.Bot. I was able to fix or delete the file that was sitting on her MSN shared folder (messenger). Below is the log from Norton Anti-Virus:

Problem
But ever since then, I believe a new issue started to occur that when she would try to restart or turn off the computer, IE would take forever to close and a pop up window would say that it could not close, so she had to close it manually. But as soon as she would do that another popup window would appear repeating the same thing. This occurred too many times until finally the PC could be restarted or shut down.

Strange Symptom
Another symptom is that she tries to open IE, and it won't open. Even though in the Windows Task Manager it shows IEXPLORE.exe running. Plus each time she tries to open again IE (either from her desktop, quick launch, or Start menu) it would create a new process. On her Task Manager it shows many repeated processes of IEXPLORE.EXE.

Google as Home Page
Another strange thing is that if she has her home page to be Google.com, it will take forever to open. But if she changed the home page to another website, it opens rather quicker–but that's still a hit or miss sometimes (as explaned above).

What I have tried so far
I've tried to fix this issue by running the latest version of Ad-Adware, Spy-Bot, and A-Square, but none of those programs detect anything wrong with her PC, and neither does Norton Anti-Virus 2004 (with current updates).

I also ran a few of the steps found on this page: How to reinstall or repair Internet Explorer in Windows XP – but nothing seemed to work. I did not try installing IE7, since she really never liked that version when it first came out.

So I just ran a scan log with HijackThais, hopefully you guys can spot if there is any malaware or other running that is causing the weird issue with IE6. I have copied the data here and also attached it.

Thanks for the help. Please let me know if you need any more info. Thanks in advance.
