Hello,
My computer is so slow. It seems like it has to warm up in the morning, it's much worse when I begin using each day. I can't understand why there's so many Logitech entries. Thanks for any help!

Here's my HijackThis info:

I can't understand why there's so many Logitech entries.

Go to Start > All Programs > Logitech and select Desktop Messenger.
There are, or were, two checkboxes which are pretty self-explanatory:
"Notifications about available Logitech software upgrades"
"Notifications about Logitech products, services, and special offers"
If you wish to stop the notifications, uncheck both boxes.

Then run HijackThis as you did to generate a log, but this time click on 'Do a system scan only'.
Place a checkmark in the boxes to the left of the O18 lines and then:
CLOSE ALL OPEN WINDOWS AND BROWSERS - EXCEPT HJT and click on Fix checked

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The following steps will serve as a spring clean for your PC. Not all of them will be of benefit to your PC as this is a general post, but the overall effect should be positive.
1) Go to Start > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and remove any programs that you no longer use and then reboot your PC.
2) Download ATF Cleaner by Atribune from here and save it to your Desktop.
Double click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Check the boxes to the left of:
Windows Temp
Current User Temp
All Users Temp
Temporary Internet Files
Java Cache
The rest are optional - if you want to remove the lot, check "Select All".
Finally click Empty Selected. When you get the "Done Cleaning" message, click OK.
If you use the Firefox or Opera browsers, you can use this program as a quick way to tidy those up as well.
When you have finished, click on the Exit button in the Main menu.
For Technical Support, double-click the e-mail address located at the bottom of each menu.
Please Note: This program is for Windows XP and Windows 2000 only.
3) Double click My Computer.
Right click the disc drive you wish to check.
Click Properties.
In the Properties dialog box, click the Tools Tab.
Under Error-checking, click the Check Now button.
In the "Check Disc Local Disk (C:)" dialog box, check both Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors, and then click Start.
This will look for and attempt to repair any errors that your hard drive has.
4) Defragment your hard drive. A tutorial for disc defragmentation is available here.
5) Download and run StartUp Inspector.
This program will help you to decide exactly what programs you disable from running at startup.
The Readme.txt file included has instructions on how to use it.
Once you've done the above, do the below:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from here and save it to your Desktop.
  • Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
  • Ensure a checkmark is placed next to both Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version - you'll need to clear it with your firewall.
  • Once the program has loaded, select Perform full scan and then Scan.
  • When the scan has finished, click OK and then Show Results to view the results - no surprise there!
  • If MBAM finds anything, check the box(es) and click Remove Selected.
  • When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please save it to a convenient location. The log can also be opened by going to Start > All Programs > Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware > Logs > log-date.txt
Let me have the MBAM log, a fresh HJT log (run in Normal Mode) AND a description of how your PC is behaving.

Also, run HJT and click on Open the Misc Tools section.
  • Click Open Uninstall Manager…
  • Click Save list… and save it to your Desktop.
  • Copy and paste the file uninstall_list.txt into your next reply.

For the Virtual Memory issue, there are two possibilities that I can think of. The first is that you just don't have enough RAM installed. XP will function with 256 Mb of RAM, but it don't like it! 512 Mb, or preferably 1024 Mb, is going to help things work happily. If you have plenty of memory, then you may just need to tweak a setting:

Right Click My Computer and select Settings - or Click Start > Control Panel > System, it's the same ending.
Select the Advanced Tab.
Under Performance click Settings.
Select the Advanced Tab again and under Virtual memory click Change.
If Windows is in charge of things, the radio button next to System managed size should be selected. If it isn't, click it and then Set.
If you have to change the settings, then a reboot will be required to get Windows to run with the new settings.

Let me know how much RAM you have and whether you have had to alter the settings and if it has made a difference.
I only have 256. I would get more but I have some type of memory that is really expensive, PC800 I think. Windows has 584 set for the virtual memory.
Although Microsoft declared that XP would run fine on 256 Mb, most people accept that 512 is the better option. Uncle Bill tried the same thing with Vista and a lot of machines got sold with 1 Gb of RAM and it turns out that 2 Gb is the better option - thought he'd learn from experience, wouldn't you!
You just don't have enough RAM for XP and your machine is making do by pretending that some of your hard drive is in fact RAM - that's why it's called virtual memory, as it's not real RAM.
You can help by limiting the number of programs that you have running at the same time, as this causes Windows to use virtual memory and the more you use, the more messages you get telling you that it's running out.
I'm not totally sure what happens if you just keep increasing the amount of virtual memory, but I think that you'll just slow your PC to a crawl. Windows will have to continually move data from memory to the hard drive to make place to move data from your hard drive to memory to work on, and then move it back to create space to …. and you get the picture.

You could try a different anti-virus as Symantec is known to be a resource hog and this could reduce the load on your PC's RAM. Unfortunately the one that I usually recommend and use myself , AVG, is getting a reputation for being the same with it's latest version.
AntiVir PersonalEdition Classic :Available here is another option and it's free, but I don't have any experience of it. You could give it a try out and see what you think. Remember that you need to download the installation file and then log off from the internet before you uninstall you existing AV to ensure you aren't at risk.
