I have been having issues with a virus cauding an "IAMSORRY" search bar to open along with other windows when browsing in IE. I have noticed I am not the first to be bothered by this issue. Below I have my Hijackthis & ComboFix Logs. If someone would be able to look over these and see if there is still an infection it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you all in advance!

Hello,

Welcome to WhattheTech sorry for the delay in responding but with the amount of logs we get most times we can't get to them as fast as we would like to.

Just so you know, running Powerful Programs like Combofix without supervision can sometimes bork your computer as all systems are different and what you may have seen help one poster may do damage to another so please do not run anymore programs unless directed to by this forum.

Your HJT program is outdated so drag it to the trash and download and install the latest version by Trendmicro.
Download Trendmicros Hijackthis to your desktop.
Double click it to install
Follow the prompts and by default it will install in C:\Program Files\Trendmicro\Hijackthis\Highjackthis.exe
  • Open HJT Scan and Save a Log File, it will open in Notepad
  • Go to Format and make sure Wordwrap is Unchecked
  • Go to Edit> Select All.....Edit > Copy and Paste the new log into this thread by using the Post Reply and not start a New Thread.
DO NOT have HijackThis fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

Hello,

Hope I didn't offend you by the Combofix information, didn't mean to alarm you but there are entries in a HJT log that if Combofix is run it can bork your system , fortunately those entries are not on your log. The best course of action when you think your infected is to not change anything on your system, just post in a forum of your choice so that none of the evidence is removed to show us what your infected with.

Combofix did remove some nasty stuff as you can see in the OTHER DELETIONS . But there is still more to do, your infected with the SDBot worm so lets run the removal tool, its important for this tool to be effective to be run from Safemode after you download it.

To Enter Safemode

  • Go to Start> Shut off your Computer> Restart
  • As the computer starts to boot-up, Tap the F8 KEY somewhat rapidly,
this will bring up a menu.
  • Use the Up and Down Arrow Keys to scroll up to Safemode
  • Then press the Enter Key on your Keyboard
Tutorial if you need it How to boot into Safemode

Download SDFix and save it to your Desktop.

Double click SDFix.exe and it will extract the files to %systemdrive%
(Drive that contains the Windows Directory, typically C:\SDFix)

Please then reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
  • Restart your computer
  • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
  • Instead of Windows loading as normal, the Advanced Options Menu should appear;
  • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press Enter.
  • Choose your usual account.
  • Open the extracted SDFix folder and double click RunThis.bat to start the script.
  • Type Y to begin the cleanup process.
  • It will remove any Trojan Services and Registry Entries that it finds then prompt you to press any key to Reboot.
  • Press any Key and it will restart the PC.
  • When the PC restarts the Fixtool will run again and complete the removal process then display Finished, press any key to end the script and load your desktop icons.
  • Once the desktop icons load the SDFix report will open on screen and also save into the SDFix folder as Report.txt
(Report.txt will also be copied to Clipboard ready for posting back on the forum).
  • Finally paste the contents of the Report.txt back on the forum with a new HijackThis log

Below I've posted the logs you requested. Hopefully things look a little better. I do have one additional question. If I've had a thumb drive and an iPod attatched to this computer. Could they be corrupted as well? If so what actions should be taken?

Hello,

SDFix worked , the bad entires for this infection on your HJT log are gone

I see ZoneAlarm firewall installed :D BUT NO ANTI VIRUS software  Here is a link to a good free one, install it unless you have other plans to install a different program, surfing the internet with no AV is this day and age is kind of suicidal.
AVG Free

As far as your thumbdrive , I would like you to download and install Malwarebytes and run a scan, keep those drives plugged in and make sure to select all drives for the scans. Between Combofix and SDBot fix we removed a lot of garbage, lets see what Malwarebytes finds and removes,

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from Here or Here

Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
  • Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Quick Scan", then click Scan.
  • The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart.(See Extra Note)
  • The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
  • Copy and Paste the entire report in your next reply along with a Hijackthis log.
