I got hit by a driveby about the time that was written last year, I suspect the problem isn't quite as bad anymore
The infections are more sophisticated.

To address the problem by drive-by infections, one have to have some sort of Behavior-blocker or strong HIPS installed. Most Anti-Virus today can't stop those, so its essential. Problem is, that many people don't know that or doesn't care about it.
Behavior-Blockers are relatively new assets in the security world, but its getting there in terms of people knowing and understanding why they are required. Today's picture of malware, is more Zero-day attacks and morphed viruses. Black-listing and signature programs are less effective today than they were for just 1-2 years ago. Thus the need for those Behavior-blockers or strong HIPS programs.
Sad, but true. <_<
