1) You are running HJT from an unsafe location. An easy way to correct this is to do the following:

Download a copy of HJTInstall.exe from here and save it to your Desktop
  • Double click HJTInstall.exe to begin installation.
  • Accept the installation location, which by default is C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis or click the Browse... button if you want to chose somewhere else and then click Install
  • Once HJT has installed, a shortcut will be created on your Desktop and HJT will open automatically.
  • You will need to accept the EULA, if it appears, to be able to use the tool.
  • Close the program as you won't need to use it yet.
Do this BEFORE you proceed!

2) Take a trip to this webpage for download links and instructions for running Combofix by sUBs: http://www.bleepingc...to-use-combofix
  • Please Note: This tool may require the PC to be rebooted so close any programs you have open before you start.
  • When CF has finished, it will produce a log C:\ComboFix.txt - copy and paste it into your next reply.
  • Post a fresh HJT log as well.
  • Let me know how the PC is behaving.
3) Also, run HJT and click on Open the Misc Tools section.
  • Click Open Uninstall Manager...
  • Click Save list... and save it to your Desktop.
  • Copy and paste the file uninstall_list.txt into your next reply.

Death to the salad eaters!

Please don't add logs as attachments. I don't have the hard drive space to keep everything i'm working on and having to open an attachment every time I want to view something won't make me a happy bunny.

You will need to make a copy of these instructions because you have to disconnect from the internet to complete the fix. Either print them out or copy and paste them into Notepad.

Preparation

Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from here and save it to your Desktop.
  • Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
  • Ensure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version - you'll need to clear it with your firewall.
  • Once the little window has closed, the program is up to date and this bit is done.
2) You will need to set Windows to show All Hidden Files and Folders.
Instructions can be found here.
** These files are hidden to stop you accidentally removing something important.
It is advisable to hide them again after fixing your computer. **

3) Log off from the internet and disconnect your modem cable for the duration of the fix.

Removal

1) Run HijackThis as you did to generate a log, but this time click on 'Do a system scan only'.
Place a checkmark in the boxes to the left of the following entries, by clicking on them:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [b0e3f283] rundll32.exe "C:\WINDOWS\system32\ptvboiol.dll",b
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [BMb3d0c11f] Rundll32.exe "C:\WINDOWS\system32\vsnnbbfa.dll",s

CLOSE ALL OPEN WINDOWS AND BROWSERS - EXCEPT HJT and click on Fix checked

2) Run MBAM - either via the shortcut on your Desktop or Start > All Programs.
  • Once the program has loaded, select Perform full scan and then Scan.
  • When the scan has finished, click OK and then Show Results to view the results - no surprise there!
  • If MBAM finds anything, check the box(es) and click Remove Selected.
  • When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please save it to a convenient location. The log can also be opened by going to Start > All Programs > Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware > Logs > log-date.txt
3) Reboot your computer in Safe Mode.
  • If the computer is running, shut down Windows, and then turn off the power.
  • Wait 30 seconds, and then turn the computer on.
  • Start tapping the F8 key. The Windows Advanced Options Menu appears. If you begin tapping the F8 key too soon, some computers display a "keyboard error" message. To resolve this, restart the computer and try again.
  • Ensure that the Safe Mode option is selected.
  • Press Enter. The computer then begins to start in Safe mode.
  • Login on your usual account.
4) Navigate to the C:\Windows\Temp folder and delete all the files that you find there.

5) Navigate to C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Local Settings\Temp and delete all the files that you find there.
Do this for all Usernames.

6) Go to Start > Control Panel > Internet Options.

For I.E. 6 - under Temporary Internet files, click on Delete Files...
Check the box to the left of 'Delete all offline content' and then click on OK.

For I.E. 7 - under Browsing History, click delete...
Under Temporary Internet Files, click Delete files...

7) Remove any/all of the following files/folders that you can find:

Files

C:\WINDOWS\BMb3d0c11f.xml
C:\WINDOWS\vydirkfa.exe.bak
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\LE3C7.tmp
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\LE28E.tmp
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\LE165.tmp
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\LE01D.tmp

As an example:
To delete C:\WINDOWS\system32\filetogo.bye
Double click the My Computer icon on your Desktop.
Double click on Local Disc (C:)
Double click on the Windows folder,
Double click on the System 32 folder,
Right click on filetogo.bye and from the menu that appears, click on 'Delete'

8) Boot into Normal Mode.

Post a new HJT log, the MBAM log AND a description of how your PC is running.
Death to the salad eaters!

Running the Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware application several pieces of malware were removed. The computer performance has improved dramatically and seems to be running at top speed. I have included the HJT log along with the MAM log as well.

Things look good.

1) Run HijackThis as you did to generate a log, but this time click on 'Do a system scan only'.
Place a checkmark in the boxes to the left of the following entries, by clicking on them:

O2 - BHO: {7af5bf4e-1f59-600b-32f4-b8a52dfb6219} - {9126bfd2-5a8b-4f23-b006-95f1e4fb5fa7} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\bcwsbnlv.dll (file missing)

O20 - Winlogon Notify: efcATNGX - efcATNGX.dll (file missing)

CLOSE ALL OPEN WINDOWS AND BROWSERS - EXCEPT HJT and click on Fix checked

2) You are running an old version of Sun Java which needs updating:
  • Go here and click on the Download button to the right of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6u5.
  • Accept the license agreement by clicking the appropriate radio button and then continue.
  • Under Windows Platform - Java™ SE Runtime Environment 6 Update 5, click the Windows Offline Installation, Multi-language link.
  • Go to Add/Remove Programs and remove any entries that refer to Java 2 Runtime Environment and then reboot your PC.
  • Navigate to and delete the following folder, if it exists: C:\Program Files\Java.
  • Finally double click the installation file that you downloaded earlier.
3) Your copy of Adobe Reader is seriously out of date - you can get the latest, and free, version here.

Apart from that, you're done. I want you to run your PC as normal for a few days and when you are happy that everything is fine, do the following:

Disable System Restore,
Reboot your PC,
Re-enable System Restore,
Create a Restore Point - this will give a clean one should you need it in the future.
A tutorial for System Restore is available here.

The reason for waiting is that if removing the malware has caused a problem, which it occasionally does, you can put your PC back to how it was before the fix. This will re-install the malware, but an infected PC is better than an expensive paperweight!

Some bedtime reading: This is a very good tutorial about keeping your computer safe and secure on the internet.
