My computer is running very slowly, I am getting numerous pop-ups, my spy-bot is not running properly, my Norton is not getting updates. Windows defender is giving me a serious alert that comes up as trojan:win32/conhook.D. I have tried booting in safe mode and everything runs fine in safe mode. Most problems occur when accessing Internet Explorer. Here is my hijach this scan. Please Help.

Thanks so much for your reply. My computer is overrun with pop-ups, alot of the bogus virus scan pop ups that you can't always just close out........I usually have to ctrl.alt del. to get rid of them. Internet explorer runs extremely slow, sometimes can't get on at all. I have been using att yahoo browser for internet and usually can get on and stay on for a while...........it seems that the virus ie..the pop ups and weird error messages are gradually taking over att browser also. Sometimes when I boot up I get just the background, no icons and I have to reboot. Sometimes the icons come up, I click on whatever and nothing happens so I keep rebooting until I get a screen with icons that actually work. Also, I had some issues last week with spybot not being able to run so we ended up deleting it completely and my Norton can't get updates and is not scanning properly. Norton helpline suggested a PIU? download and now it gets updated but I don't think they actually install. Here is my latest hjt.

I suggest you do this:

Double-click My Computer.
Click the Tools menu, and then click Folder Options.
Click the View tab.
Clear "Hide file extensions for known file types."
Under the "Hidden files" folder, select "Show hidden files and folders."
Clear "Hide protected operating system files."
Click Apply, and then click OK.


Please do not delete anything unless instructed to.

Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Under Main choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.

(If you use FireFox or the Opera browser
To keep saved passwords, click No at the prompt.)

It's normal after running ATF cleaner that the PC will be slower to boot the first time or two.

Next:

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your desktop.

• Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
• At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
• If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
• Once the program has loaded, select Perform quick scan, then click Scan.
• When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
• Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
• When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please save it to a convenient location and post the results.

Also "copy/paste" a new HijackThis log file into this thread.

You need to update SunJava.
Updating Java:
Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6.

• Scroll down to where it says Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 5
  The Java SE Runtime Environment (JRE) allows end-users to run Java applications.

• Click the "Download" button to the right.

• Check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement".

• Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation with or without Multi-language and save to your desktop.

• Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.

• Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on Add/Remove programs and remove all older versions of Java.

• Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name. It should have the icon next to it.

• Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.

• Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java versions.

• Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.

• Then from your desktop double-click on 6-windowsi586-p.exe to install the newest version.

Once installed you can test to see that it is in fact installed

  Double-click My Computer.

  Check "Hide file extensions for known file types."
  Under the "Hidden files" folder, Uncheck "Show hidden files and folders."
  Check "Hide protected operating system files."
  Click Apply, and then click OK.
  
  
  • Make your Internet Explorer more secure - This can be done by following these simple instructions:
    • From within Internet Explorer click on the Tools menu and then click on Options.
    • Click once on the Security tab
    • Click once on the Internet icon so it becomes highlighted.
    • Click once on the Custom Level button.
    • Change the Download signed ActiveX controls to Prompt
    • Change the Download unsigned ActiveX controls to Disable
    • Change the Initialize and script ActiveX controls not marked as safe to Disable
    • Change the Installation of desktop items to Prompt
    • Change the Launching programs and files in an IFRAME to Prompt
    • Change the Navigate sub-frames across different domains to Prompt
    • When all these settings have been made, click on the OK button.
    • If it prompts you as to whether or not you want to save the settings, press the Yes button.
  • Next press the Apply button and then the OK to exit the Internet Properties page.
• Update your AntiVirus Software - It is imperative that you update your Antivirus software at least once a week
  (Even more if you wish). If you do not update your antivirus software then it will not be able to catch any of the new variants that may come out.
  
  
• Use a Firewall - I can not stress how important it is that you use a Firewall on your computer.
  Without a firewall your computer is succeptible to being hacked and taken over.
  I am very serious about this and see it happen almost every day with my clients.
  Simply using a Firewall in its default configuration can lower your risk greatly.

• Visit Microsoft's Windows Update Site Frequently - It is important that you visit http://www.windowsupdate.com regularly.
  This will ensure your computer has always the latest security updates available installed on your computer.
  If there are new updates to install, install them immediately, reboot your computer, and revisit the site
  until there are no more critical updates.
  
  
• Install SpywareBlaster - SpywareBlaster will add a large list of programs and sites into your Internet Explorer
  settings that will protect you from running and downloading known malicious programs.
