I.E. hangs occasionally when I shut down, when it does I have to push the (Start button) on computer to shut down. I use Skype and it hangs also while I am on it and sometimes have to push the button to shut down.. I have Ad-Aware SE Personal and I have not found a single spy ware cookie for days. I would always have some (Data Miner cookies) whenever I ran it until 3 days ago.. I ran Spy Bot S&D v.1.5 and it found (2) Blue Mountain cookies but that was it yesterday. I downloaded (HJT) but haven't a clue as what to do with this log file. Is there a tech out there for some help please. Thank You, KLS :pullhair:

I am not sure that I am supposed to add the log but here it is...

Hi

This doesnt appear to be a malware issue. But we will run a scan to be sure.

Please do an online scan with Kaspersky Online Scanner. You will be prompted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, Click Yes.
  • The program will launch and then start to download the latest definition files.
  • Once the scanner is installed and the definitions downloaded, click Next.
  • Now click on Scan Settings
  • In the scan settings make sure that the following are selected:
    • Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:

      + Extended(If available otherwise Standard)
    • Scan Options:

      + Scan Archives
      + Scan Mail Bases
  • Click OK
  • Now under select a target to scan select My Computer
  • The scan will take a while so be patient and let it run. Once the scan is complete it will display if your system has been infected.
  • Now click on the Save as Text button
  • Save the file to your desktop.
  • Copy and paste that information in your next post.

With the exception of Internet Explorer, which is needed for the Kaspersky Scan, keep ALL programs closed until the scan is complete. This includes your anti-virus. Once you have installed the Scanner, and the updated definitions, you can disconnect from the Internet.Re-enable the anti-virus before reconnecting to the Internet.

Hi

Unless your pc is part of a corporate network the Hacktool is considered low risk. We can remove it though.

You need to navigate to the file or use Explorer to search for it. Then delete the file that I have bolded.
C:\Documents and Settings\Lee Spencer\My Documents\$Download\ZaksNoBuddyYahooRemove\ZaksNoBuddy_Install.exe

And the backup copy
J:\Maxtor backup\JAKE\C\Documents and Settings\Lee Spencer\My Documents\$Download\ZaksNoBuddyYahooRemove\ZaksNoBuddy_Install.exe

Then, to make sure nothing is left

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your desktop.

  • Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
  • At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.

OK Scotty I have completed both tests. I have the results below. I did see that according to the malware test I did it showed my (XP Codec\XP_Codec_Pack-2.3.4.exe) as a virus and it was deleted. It is a great program for viewing files that XP Media player won't play ie. .avi,.flv etc, the program still seems to be in my programs but will it still work do you know? Hi

I cant say for sure if you have just downloaded an infected copy of XP Codec pack or if it is just a bad program, but Ill make two suggestions, both involving removal of said codecs.

Replace it with KLite Codecs. It is a full package and safe. You can get KLite here.
http://www.free-code..._codec_pack.htm

Or install VLC Media Player. It plays all files. I use it on my Kubuntu pc, and on Windows. It includes a browser plug-in too.
http://www.videolan.org/vlc/

Congratulations, you appear to be malware free.

You need to do the following for both C & J drives

First we need to flush your System Restore points after ridding yourself of malware:

  • Click Start | Help and Support | Undo changes to your computer with System Restore.
  • Click Create A Restore Point then click Next. Give it a name it and then click Create, then Close.
  • Close the Help and Support Center box.
  • Click Start | Run and type Cleanmgr
  • Select (C: ) then click OK.
  • Click the More Options tab.
  • Click Clean Up in the System Restore Section.

This will remove all previous restore points except the newly created one.

You may wish to keep hold of the Kaspersky Online Scan as an extra on-demand virus-scanner.
If not you can uninstall it through Start>Control Panel>Add/Remove Programs

Delete the older versions of Java and download the newest.
Please follow these steps to remove older version Java components.
  • Close any programmes you may have running, ESPECIALLY your web browser
  • Click Start > Control Panel.
  • Click Add/Remove Programs.
  • Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
  • Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
  • Repeat as many times as necessary to remove all versions of Java.
  • Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
Then download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) (5th one down the list), which is JRE6u6, and click Yes at the page warning. Under "Platform" select Windows, then check the box to accept the Licence Agreement. Click Yes at the second page warning before downloading the Offline file.
There is no need to download the Sun Dowload manager but it is optional.

Malwarebytes Anti-Malware is a good program to keep. If you wish to keep it, use it to do a quick scan once a week and keep it updated.
Remember, only the paid for version offers real-time protection

Here is another free program I recommend.

Install WinPatrol
Download it from here
Here you can find information about how WinPatrol works here

Make sure your Windows is ALWAYS up to date!

An unpatched Windows is vulnerable and even with the "best" Antivirus and Firewall installed, malware will find its way through.
So visit http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/ to download and install the latest updates.

Update your Antivirus programs and other security products regularly to avoid new threats that could infect your system.

Please check out Tony Klein's article "How did I get infected in the first place?"

Here is some great information from experts in this field that will help you stay clean and safe online.
http://forum.malware...wtopic.php?t=14

Follow this list and your potential for being infected again will reduce dramatically.

I'd be grateful if you could reply to this post so that I know you have read it and, if you've no other questions, the thread can be closed.

Hi Scotty, I read your post after I had already removed XP codec Pac 2.3.4 and then ran this scan. The files that have :system volume information\ _restore{2A0681E0-F0C6-48D5-9B4E-FF2D067346C4}\RP73\A0021597.exe/0001\F7\ZaksNoBuddy.exe Infected: HackTool.Win32.VB.hf skipped .........Does that mean it is repaired and done with? I ran another Kaspersky check and here is what it showed if you wouold look at this last check please .Thanks again KLS

This is with the K-Lite codecs.. If this looks OK to you, I will do the last part to remove the (System Restore points). Is that how I get rid of the _restore sys info? I don't know how to remove them from drive "J" though it is an External HD.

Scotty,
This is after cleaning system restore point and It looks great to me. I can't thank you enough. Everything opens so much faster and I don't think I will have any more lock up problems. If you see something I should know about, please do....
P.S. I see that there is a place for "FRIENDS" in this forum. How does that work? Could I list you as one? If so how do I do that? Take care KLS

Im not entirely sure why there is a system restore on J, unless you are using some imaging software to backup the main drive.

Scotty, This computer has a card reader and 5 or 6 USB ports. The next available drive there was happened to be "J". No other reason and I figured out how to remove the trash from it. Everything is wonderful with the machine now. IE works and loads in a blink, all programs seem top be working fine that I have tried except Ad-aware doesn't want to get the updates. It is the Free version of "SE Personal" but that is something I can work out I am sure. Do you think that the "Malwarebytes" could have anything to do with that???? B) Again I THANK YOU ............. Hi I doubt MBAM would have done anything, but it's most likely something in Adaware was infected, which is common. You could uninstall that and redownload a new copy. Ill close this up now. Oh aye, for the Friends thing, just click on my name and click on add as a friend, I think
