My computer hangs up at quite a few websites. I logged onto the Microsoft topic area and left a post. An expert told me to put an HJT log in this area. So, I have two things copied below:

Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.

Click on Open the Misc Tools section button
Click on Open Uninstall Manager
Click on Save
A notepad document will open with a list of your installed programs.

Be sure to keep SunJava, updated the new version is 6.0 update 10
In Add/Remove programs click on these and press *remove*

Then download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your desktop.

* Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
* Be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
* If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
* Once the program has loaded, select Perform FULL SCAN, then click Scan.
* When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
* Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.

The time is now 9:37PM - some 30 minutes or so from downloading and scanning my computer with the software you recommended. I can no longer boot up my desktop so I'm on the laptop at this time. When trying to boot up the desktop I get a BLUE screen with the following message: DRIVER_UNLOADED_WITHOUT_CANCELLING_PENDING_OPERATIONS. THIS DRIVER MAY BE AT FAULT: viaagpl.sys ADDRESS: EB29BOBC BASE AT EB298000 DATESTAMP 00000000 - viaagpl.sys. So what do you make of that? I've tried F8 and only get the prompt for whether I want my floppy, CD, USB or C drive to start up first. I haven't been able to get to safe mode. I assume I should try to start up in SAFE mode?

I attempted to boot up using the SAFE MODE. I got another BLUE screen that said: STOP KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED ADDRESS: 8041DACC BASE AT 8040000 DATE STAMP 45ec3c8F - ntoskrnl.exe.

Hi Little Eagle - I do have a Windows CD. However 30 minutes ago I took my computer to another expert. I just didn't feel competent to do anything more with it. I couldn't get beyond the Blue Screen and I didn't understand anything that was listed there on the blue screen. My hope is that the expert will be able to get beyond the blue screen and resurrect all my data. But we'll have to see what happens. I thank you for all your attempts at helping me. I don't know exactly what happened or what I did wrong. But I just hope that I haven't permanently done something that will cause the loss of years of financial and personal data. That does bother me quite a bit. I have some files that have been saved on a flash drive and that helps minimize the damage somewhat but not completely. For instance I have four files of Quicken bank account data. I insert the flash drive in the laptop which still works. I "restore" all four files on the laptop from the drive. I open up one of the files, insert some new data from my bank account, then when I go to "backup" the data I get a screen that tells me I have something wrong in the name of the file itself and I can't continue to save that data on the drive. So now I have data in the laptop with no provisions to save that newer data to the flash drive. It's issues like that where I have other computer problems. I know I'm getting to whining now and I don't think that's good for my psyche. Thanks again.
