Hello all,

I am running Windows XP home edition, and I have Webroot SpySweeper with Sophos Anti-Virus installed. Below is what SpySweeper blocked and later quarentined. What I did was delete these after I saw all my programs functioning ok:

Adware: adware insider - Quarantined
Adware: command - Quarantined
Adware: targetsaver - Quarantined
Adware: virtumonde - Quarantined
Behavioral: Mal/Behav-191 - Quarantined
Behavioral: Mal/DownLdr-O - Quarantined
Behavioral: Mal/Generic-A - Quarantined
Behavioral: Mal/ObfJS-H - Quarantined
Behavioral: Mal/VB-M -Quarantined
Trojan Horse: trojan downloader matcash - Quarantined
Trojan Horse: trojan-downloader.gen - Quarantined
Virus: Troj/Batten-A - Quarantined
Virus: Troj/Nawps-A - Quarantined
Virus: Troj/Virtum-Gen - Quarantined

But the thing is I went to Add/Remove Programs and saw ; CPV installed. It is called CPV8.dll. I call myself removing it from the Add/Remove Program, yet it is still showing as a folder in my program files.

Right now I am running the VundoFix to see if there is anything else there. Nothing was found!
Also I ran the HiJackThis. One thing in particuliar:

[b]04 - HKCU\ . .\RunOnce: [DelOldfile] cmd.exe/C del /Q "C:\Program Files\CPV"

Here is my HiJackThis log:

Hello again, I appreciate being able to be a part of this forum, and I'm sure there are others who have a more of a crisis, since it seems that SpySweeper caught these 'virus' , etc. Therefore, it seems that my computer is okay, after others read my deliema, and no one responded. No hard feelings though, surely if I needed help, you all would be here helping. Thanks so much!

I suggest you do this:

Double-click My Computer.
Click the Tools menu, and then click Folder Options.
Click the View tab.
Clear "Hide file extensions for known file types."
Under the "Hidden files" folder, select "Show hidden files and folders."
Clear "Hide protected operating system files."
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Please do not delete anything unless instructed to.

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune.
Download - ATF Cleaner»
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Under Main choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.

(If you use FireFox or the Opera browser
To keep saved passwords, click No at the prompt.)

It's normal after running ATF cleaner that the PC will be slower to boot the first time or two.

Next:

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your desktop.

  • Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
  • At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select Perform quick scan, then click Scan.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please save it to a convenient location and post the results.
Also "copy/paste" a new HijackThis log file into this thread.

Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.

Ok LDTate,

Assignment done. I can see a difference in that when I rebooted, it seemed to reboot a bit faster.
Also, when i clicked on to sign in to Yahoo Internet service, it also seemed to start up faster. I haven't clicked on any other program, except the one You requested, "Hijackthis.

Therefore, my dear LDTate, wiz of a computer expert, ( How happy I am for you :yeah: ), here is the Hijackthis log:

Here's my usual all clean post

Log looks good :D

You need to create a new Clean restore point.

Note: This will remove all previous Restore Points

Click Start Menu > Run > copy and paste

%SystemRoot%\System32\restore\rstrui.exe

Press OK. Choose Create a Restore Point then click Next. Name it (something you'll remember) and click Create, when the confirmation screen shows the restore point has been created click Close.

Double-click My Computer.
Click the Tools menu, and then click Folder Options.
Click the View tab.
Check "Hide file extensions for known file types."
Under the "Hidden files" folder, Uncheck "Show hidden files and folders."
Check "Hide protected operating system files."
Click Apply, and then click OK.

  • Make your Internet Explorer more secure - This can be done by following these simple instructions:
    • From within Internet Explorer click on the Tools menu and then click on Options.
    • Click once on the Security tab
    • Click once on the Internet icon so it becomes highlighted.
    • Click once on the Custom Level button.
      [list=a]
    • Change the Download signed ActiveX controls to Prompt
    • Change the Download unsigned ActiveX controls to Disable
    • Change the Initialize and script ActiveX controls not marked as safe to Disable
    • Change the Installation of desktop items to Prompt
    • Change the Launching programs and files in an IFRAME to Prompt
    • Change the Navigate sub-frames across different domains to Prompt
    • When all these settings have been made, click on the OK button.
    • If it prompts you as to whether or not you want to save the settings, press the Yes button.
  • Next press the Apply button and then the OK to exit the Internet Properties page.

[*]Update your AntiVirus Software - It is imperative that you update your Antivirus software at least once a week
(Even more if you wish). If you do not update your antivirus software then it will not be able to catch any of the new variants that may come out.

[*]Visit Microsoft's Windows Update Site Frequently - It is important that you visit http://www.windowsupdate.com regularly.
This will ensure your computer has always the latest security updates available installed on your computer.
If there are new updates to install, install them immediately, reboot your computer, and revisit the site
until there are no more critical updates.

Only run one Anti-Virus and Firewall program.
