hey, well my brother is trying to install this program on to my back up disk and i need to install some of the program onto the Hard drive. well heres the problem my Hard Drive says it has 3GB but when i install the program it says it has only 1.58 GB. can someone explain whats going on? i uninstalled a bunch of things already.
I am surmising that the 3GB you mentioned is the actual amount of HDD space remaining. So if that is the case the 1.58 physically remaining could be due to the below:
A OEM partition is present and reserved MFT space is being used.
The actual specifications HDD size even though say 40GB for example will be in fact around the 37GB because most HDD's are hardly ever the actual size stated by manufacturer's.
I think your best recourse will be to be to create more available space via Add/Remove etc. Also no harm in downloading and running the benchmark tests with this application HD-Tune to ensure there are no errors with the HDD.
Vista does a good job of hiding the restore points, disk management will show one reading for space used, my computer another, it seems to be hiding some data from itself as well as you.
With today's larger hard drives I consider 10 gigs free space a bare minimum, many of my favorite video conversion programs require it.
