Hi, I have a similar problem as a few members on this forum. When i boot up my laptop i get 3 error msgs kavo.exe, tavo.exe and ff.exe in regard to memory referencing. It doesnt happen every single time i boot up, but in my last boot my antivirus avast, identified these files and suggested i do a boot scan. Ive completed the boot scan and have moved lots of infected files incl the kavo,tavo and ff to the virus chest. There also seems to be files such as kavo0.dll, kavo1.dll, tavo0.dll,tavo1.dll. I think it all started after i used my removable hardrive connected by usb. I was wondering if somebody could help me in further steps to get rid of this annoyin problem Any help will be much appreciated Thanks viv12

Hi,

Not seeing anything there. Let's do some cleanup and some scans to see what's found.

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune.
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Under Main choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
If you use Firefox browserClick Firefox at the top and choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
If you use Opera browserClick Opera at the top and choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.
For Technical Support, double-click the e-mail address located at the bottom of each menu.

Next:

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your desktop.

• Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
• At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
• If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
• Once the program has loaded, select Perform quick scan, then click Scan.
• When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
• Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
• When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please save it to a convenient location and post the results.

Please do an online scan with Kaspersky WebScanner

You need to use Internet Explorer for this scan.

Click on Kaspersky Online Scanner and click Accept

You will be prompted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, Click Yes.

• The program will launch and then begin downloading the latest definition files:
• Once the files have been downloaded click on NEXT
  
• Now click on Scan Settings
• In the scan settings make that the following are selected:
  • Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
  Extended (if available otherwise Standard)
  
  • Scan Options:
  Scan Archives
  Scan Mail Bases
• Click OK
• Now under select a target to scan:Select My Computer
• This will program will start and scan your system.
• The scan will take a while so be patient and let it run.
• Once the scan is complete it will display if your system has been infected.
  
  • Now click on the Save as Text button:
• Save the file to your desktop.
• Copy and paste that information in your next post.

Reboot, post a new HijackThis log, and let me know how it's running.

Hi indiGenus You said you couldnt find anything in the HiJackThis log. could it be because Avast has detected it and moved it to the Virus Chest. Another thing, if the problem initiated from my removable hard disk. How can i rectify it so that i can take a backup. I had this kavo, tavo problem last time and formatted my computer, and when i wanted to put my data back on the computer from removable hdd the problem came again. Hi,
Yes, that's very possible that your removable drive is infected and will re-infect you again if you try and restore from it. Did you run a virus scan on that drive also?

You could try running Flash Disinfector on the drive also. The best thing would be to wipe that drive clean with a format, but if you have data on it you would like to retrieve then maybe try the flash disinfector first, then do a full virus scan on it.

Download Flash_Disinfector from here and save it to your desktop.
Doubleclick on Flash_Disinfector.exe to run it and follow the prompts.
Wait until it has finished scanning and then exit the program.
The utility may ask you to insert your flash drive and/or other removable drives. This may include your mobile phone.
Please do so and allow the utility to clean up those drives as well.
