Hi. My computer seems to be affected (again) by kavo.exe., tavo.exe, tt.exe., and 2.exe. I can't display hidden files, and the "Portable Media Devices" in the Control Panel no longer displays an image. I believe I got this through my flash drive (or whatever you wanna call it) when I printed something at an internet cafe. I got this 2 weeks ago, followed some advice from this site, and seemed to have fixed everything. (At the time, I didn't suspect the flash drive/USB). After plugging it in again to back up some files, the computer went haywire again. The same memory error messages, yada yada yada. And then I did some quick tests, and lo and behold, found the kavo complex again. How can I get rid of these things on my hard drive AND my flash drive (assuming it's in both places)? I have Hijack This installed and ComboFix. I run McAfee antivirus and Spybot normally. I keep getting RXZIL.DLL (VAnti) detected in my flash drive as F: lsfjg.com Please help. Thanks, Kiran
Hello MarJayKiran

Welcome to the Whatthetech Malware Removal Forum

If you run Combofix on your own, this forum, myself and sUbs will not be responsible if your disable your system, its a very powerful tool that should be run with supervision, its not a general all purpose cleaning tool

This is the latest version of Hijackthis by Trendmicro, if you have the older version 1.99.1, drag it to the trash.

Download Trendmicros Hijackthis to your desktop.
Double click it to install
Follow the prompts and by default it will install in C:\Program Files\Trendmicro\Hijackthis\Highjackthis.exe

  • Open HJT Scan and Save a Log File, it will open in Notepad
  • Go to Format and make sure Wordwrap is Unchecked
  • Go to Edit> Select All…..Edit > Copy and Paste the new log into this thread by using the Post Reply and not start a New Thread.
DO NOT have HijackThis fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.
Hi, Ken. Thanks for responding.

Hello,

I am basically looking at a clean log, lets do a few things.

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune to your desktop.
  • This program is for XP and Windows 2000 only
  • Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
  • Under Main choose: Select All
  • Click the Empty Selected button.
Your system may start up slower after running ATF Cleaner, this is expected but will be back to normal after the first or second boot up

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from Here or Here

Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
  • Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Quick Scan", then click Scan.
  • The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected. <– Don't forget to do this
  • When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart.(See Extra Note)
  • The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
  • Copy and Paste the entire report in your next reply along with a New Hijackthis log.
Hi, again.

Here's the MBAM log, followed by the HJT log.

After this gets knocked out, perhaps you can help me ensure that my flash (thumb) drive is clean. Like I wrote in the first post, McAfee keeps deleting a virus from it…repeatedly. I don't want my files on the drive to be affected.

Thanks for all your help (so far and in the future).

K

Hey,

Open Notepad Go to Start> All Programs> Assessories> Notepad ( this will only work with Notepad )and copy all the text inside the Codebox by highlighting it all and pressing CTRL C on your keyboard, then paste it into Notepad, make sure there is no space before and above File::

File::
C:\WINDOWS\system32\ckvo1.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\ckvo.exe

Save this as CFScript to your desktop.

Then drag the CFScript into ComboFix.exe as you see in the screenshot below.

[external image: Posted Image]

This will start ComboFix again. After reboot, (in case it asks to reboot), post the contents of Combofix.txt in your next reply together with a new HijackThis log.

How is your system behaving now??
Hi.

System seems to be doing okay, now. Everything back to working order, almost. Since kavo hit (the first time, last week), it removed the image from the "Portable Media Devices" in Control Panel, and my computer won't automatically open up CDs or the flash drive anymore.

Also, I'm concerned that my flash drive is infected with this junk. Any tips for that?

Here are the requested logs. Thanks for all your help so far and in the future.

Good Morning,

This is a tough call on your flash drive, I know that doing what I do sometimes when people bring me computers to work on and I don't know what its infected with I never use my thumb drive to install any of my tools on the infected computer, I always burn them to a CD. If you plug the flash drive in its very possible that you can reinfect yourself. Internet cafes most times are very unsecure, I would never access any personal information and any of them. This may seem drastic but I think what I would do is plug the flash drive into an older computer that you don't care about and format the drive, or just do not use it anymore, the prices on them have come down drastically and just buy a new one.

You can try this to see if it helps with your other issues.

Depending on how your manufacturer set up your system, you may or may not need the Windows XP CD. If you have a I386 folder on your C:\ drive you may not need the disk.
  • Click Start>Run
  • Type in sfc /scannow, hit Enter.
  • Note: there is a space between sfc and /scannow
  • This should replace any corrupted/missing system files and will hopefully fix things.

If it did not help, try posting in our forum for Hardware and Software issues.

Marjay,

I did some looking around for a tool to clean up flash drives , lets run this tool, there was a bad entry related to your flashdrive and this will clean it up, then you can feel free to use your drive normally.

Please download Flash_Disinfector.exe by sUBs and save it to your desktop:

  • Double-click Flash_Disinfector.exe to run it.
  • Follow any prompts that may appear.
  • Wait until the program has finished scanning, then please exit the program.
The tool may ask you to insert your flash drive, or other removable drives. Please do so and allow the tool to clean it up as well.

Please restart your computer.

Open Notepad Go to Start> All Programs> Assessories> Notepad ( this will only work with Notepad )and copy all the text inside the Codebox by highlighting it all and pressing CTRL C on your keyboard, then paste it into Notepad, make sure there is no space before and above File::

File::
F:\lsfjg.com

Registry::
[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\explorer\mountpoints2\{23980f10-7810-11dc-8281-0011f583c876}]
[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\explorer\mountpoints2\{2ea1552f-8be6-11dc-82a6-0011f583c876}]

Save this as CFScript to your desktop.

Then drag the CFScript into ComboFix.exe as you see in the screenshot below.

This will start ComboFix again. After reboot, (in case it asks to reboot), post the contents of Combofix.txt in your next reply together with a new HijackThis log.
Hi. This is for Ken545 (or if he's unavailable, anyone else). Sorry I missed Ken's last addition to the previous kavo post.

This is a continuation of the kavo.exe headache thread I started earlier. Refer to that to get the full picture. Here's a summary.

1. Got rid of kavo/tavo from the hard drive.
2. Just ran Flash_Disinfector.exe, including inserting Flash drive to clean that.
3. Created CFScript and started Combofix.

Let me know when it's safe to use my flash drive again, and if I need to do anything special before using it. Are the files on the flash drive okay to keep?

Here are the CF log and a HJT log.
Thanks, in advance.
