Its a never ending cycle. Theres 3 updates………I click install and I said dont install IE7….now it goes to 2 updates (security) and they install but I dont think they are taking because Its not downloading but the updates icon reappears within a minute. NOT a download. Just update.

That just sounds like windows automatic updates. Try downloading / installing CA.

Tried reinstalling a few times. Uninstalled via ways you listed earlier in thread. No Dice. CA is uninstalled at this time and CA folder is gone.

The windows installer box is still popping up upon every start up and shut down looking for the firewall CD.

The endless cycle of "updates are ready for your computer" is still there. They are not downloading, the icon just appears and installs the same 2 security updates. Not normal update because after 15 or so reboots it still appears.

Open notepad and copy and paste next bold in it:

regedit /e startup.txt "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shared Tools\MSConfig\startupreg"
start notepad startup.txt

Save this as look.bat , choose to save as *all files and place it on your desktop.

Start Hijack This!, click on Open the Misc Tools Section. To the right of Generate Startuplist log, there are two boxes. Check them both, then click Generate Startuplist log. Then "copy/paste" the contents of the startuplist log into your next post.

Click Start > Run > and type in:

services.msc

Click OK.

In the services window find HIPS Event Manager:
Right click and choose "Properties". On the "General" tab under "Service
Status" click the "Stop" button to stop the service. Beside "Startup Type"
in the dropdown menu select "Disabled". Click Apply then OK. Exit the
Services utility.

Run hijackthis. Hit None of the above, Click Do a System Scan Only. Put a Check in the box on the left side on these:

O23 - Service: HIPS Event Manager (UmxAgent) - Unknown owner - C:\Program Files\CA\SharedComponents\HIPSEngine\UmxAgent.exe (file missing)

Close ALL windows and browsers except HijackThis and click "Fix checked"

Hips Event Manager was already stopped upon entry. Changed startup type to disabled.
023 entry was not listed in HJT.

All CA Folders are gone as mentioned in my last post.

Windows installer still started on shut down and start up and the Windows updates are back.

There were 4 updates 1 failed. Even after the updates, the icon appeared in the tray with the same 2 updates again. I go back to windows update online says there were 4 again 2 failed. Icon appears again in tray and reappears after every install.

You might end up needing to contact Microsoft. It will be free support beings it's a update issue. Where are we at with the CA install?

Wont install properly. Even with the uninstall used earlier in this thread, including deleting the CA folder, I still get the endless cycle of Windows installer looking for a removable device or CD Rom with certain files. Been doing alot of googling and tough ti find answers. I temporarily or permanantly fixed the update issue through a MS Fix but wont be able to verify it until next criticle update release.
