I got an irc trojan the other day and I can't get rid of it. I have kaspersky, avast, S&D, the cleaner, swat it, counter-spy, and some others ive ran and removed. None of these find the trojan, on reboot i get a couple popups about setisoft.com and something being profected by a progra, which ive never downloaded, mssvcs.exe tries to associate with ip [removed], don't know if that is anything. I've deleted everything to do with mirc and reinstalled hasnt done a thing. While in irc it connects me to random channels and msgs random people a link.

Hi Equalbracket and welcome to the forums.

My name is Dave. I would be glad to take a look at your log and help you with solving any malware problems. HijackThis logs can sometimes take a while to research so please be patient and I'd be grateful if you would note the following:
  • I will working be on your Malware issues, this may or may not, solve other issues you have with your machine.
  • The fixes are specific to your problem and should only be used for this issue on this machine.
  • Please continue to review my answers until I tell you your machine appears to be clear. Absence of symptoms does not mean that everything is clear.
  • It's often worth reading through these instructions and printing them for ease of reference.
  • If you don't know or understand something, please don't hesitate to say or ask!! It's better to be sure and safe than sorry.
  • Please reply to this thread. Do not start a new topic.
  • I recommend you make a backup of any data that you have created, such as documents, pictures, music, ect… before we begin the fix.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Please download SDFix and save it to your Desktop.
You should print out these instructions, or copy them to a NotePad file for reading while in Safe Mode, because you will not be able to connect to the Internet to read from this site.
Double click on SDFix.exe. It should automatically extract a folder called SDFix to your system drive (usually C:\). Please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
  • Restart your computer
  • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
  • Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu with options should appear;
  • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press "Enter".
  • Choose your usual account.
  • Open the SDFix folder and double click on RunThis.bat to start the script.
  • Type Y and press Enter to begin the script.
  • It will start cleaning your PC and then prompt you to press any key to Reboot.
  • Press any key to restart the PC.
  • Your system will take longer than normal to restart as the fixtool will be removing files.
  • When the desktop loads the Fixtool will complete the removal and display Finished.
  • Press any key to end the script and to load your desktop icons.
  • A text file should automatically open, so please copy the contents and post them here. We also need you to post a new HijackThis log
Looks like a new variant of a backdoor/bot. Let's try this.
Run HijackThis. Click Do a System Scan Only. Put a Check in the box on the left side on these:
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Microsoft Corporation Svchost Services] mssvcs.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [Microsoft Corporation Svchost Services] mssvcs.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Microsoft Corporation Svchost Services] mssvcs.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\RunServices: [Microsoft Corporation Svchost Services] mssvcs.exe
Then close all windows except HijackThis and press Fix checked.
Download the Killbox.
Unzip it to the desktop
Double-click Killbox.exe to run it.
Select "Delete on Reboot".
Place the following line (complete path) in bold in the "Full Path of File to Delete" box in Killbox:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\mssvcs.exe
Click the red-and-white "Delete File" button. Click "Yes" at the Delete on Reboot prompt.
If your computer does not restart automatically, please restart it manually.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

We are going to use HJT to create a list of your currently installed programs.1. Open HijackThis and click on the Config… button in the "Other stuff" section (lower right hand corner).
2. Click on the Misc Tools button.
3. Click on the Open Uninstall Manager… button.
4. Click on the Save list… button.
5. Save the file uninstall_list.txt to a convinient location. This should open Notepad with the list.
6. Please Copy and Paste the list into your next reply.

Please also post a new Hijackthis log.

Hi,

Glad it's running better. I would suggest along with doing the following to make sure your Kaspersky AV is updated and run a full system scan.

Run HijackThis. Click Do a System Scan Only. Put a Check in the box on the left side on these:

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {1827766B-9F49-4854-8034-F6EE26FCB1EC} - (no file)
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {E3215F20-3212-11D6-9F8B-00D0B743919D} - (no file)
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [SearchAndDestroyMFC] C:\Program Files\Search And Destroy\Search And Destroy.exe

Then close all windows except HijackThis and press Fix checked.

We need to make sure all hidden files are showing so please:

* Click Start.
* Open My Computer.
* Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
* Select the View Tab.
* Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.
* Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
* Click Yes to confirm.
* Click OK.

Using Windows Explorer delete the following folder:

C:\Program Files\Search And Destroy

Also "copy/paste" a new HijackThis log file into this thread.

Also give me an update on how it's running. If all is well we should be good to go.
