Hello Waynedeer and welcome to the What the Tech Forums

My name is Trevuren and I will be helping you with your problem.

I notice from the log that there are running more than one different Anti-Virus programs with Auto-protect enabled. Never install more than one Antivirus and Firewall! Rather than giving you extra protection, it will decrease the reliability of it seriously!
The reason for this is that if both products have their automatic (Real-Time) protection switched on, your system may lock up due to both software products attempting to access the same file at the same time.
Also because more than one Antivirus and Firewall installed are not compatible with each other, it can cause system performance problems and a serious system slowdown.

So you have to make a decision here and keep the Antivirus you prefer and uninstall the other one.
Then reboot after uninstalling.

Once you have done the above, please post a fresh HijackThis log.

Regards,

Trevuren

thanks again!
1. SuperAntiSpyware is not an Antivirus but rather an Antimalware program.

2. We must disable one or more of your security programs so that they do not interfere with our fix:

NORTON ANTIVIRUS
Please navigate to the system tray on the bottom right hand corner and look for a [external image: Posted Image] sign.
  • right-click it -> chose "Disable Auto-Protect."
  • select a duration of 5 hours (this assures no interference with the cleanup of your pc)
  • click "Ok."
  • a popup will warn that protection will now be disabled and the sign will now look like this: [external image: Posted Image]
You succesfully disabled the Norton Antivirus Guard.

3. Please download ComboFix by sUBs from HERE or HERE directly to your Desktop.

Note: If you already have ComboFix on your machine, please DELETE it from your desktop before downloading the newest version.

Go to [external image: Posted Image] -> Run -> copy/paste the following single line command in the runbox & click OK

"%userprofile%\desktop\combofix.exe" /killall

[external image: Posted Image]
  • ComboFix will automatically start. Any monitoring programs will be shut down like your antivirus, antispyware programs for example.
  • ComboFix may restart your computer, this is normal.
  • When finished, it will produce a log, ComboFix.txt.
  • Please post ComboFix.txt in your next reply along with a new HijackThis log.

Notes:

1.Do not mouse-click Combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.
2. ComboFix may reset a number of Internet Explorer's settings, including making I-E the default browser.
3. Combofix prevents autorun of ALL CDs, floppies and USB devices to assist with malware removal & increase security. If this is an issue or makes it difficult for you – please tell your helper.
4. CF disconnects your machine from the internet. The connection is automatically restored before CF completes its run. If CF runs into difficulty and terminates prematurely, the connection can be manually restored by restarting your machine.
Hello there Trevuren, thanks for all the help thusfar, youve been great. I ran combofix and then a fresh hijack this, here are the logs:

Once again, much appreciated!
A. Make sure that your Norton Antivirus is again disabled before running ComboFix.

B. Click Start >> Control Panel. Double click on Display (or Display Properties) and click on the Desktop tab. Click on Customize Desktop and click the Web tab.
For every item in the Web Pages box (except the "My Current Homepage" entry), uncheck it, and delete it.
Also, have a look at the Lock Desktop Items checkbox and make sure it is -unchecked-.
Click OK and OK again until you have exited the display properties.

C. 1. Please open Notepad

3. Save the above as CFScript.txt

4. Now drag the CFScript.txt into ComboFix.exe as depicted in the animation below. This will start ComboFix again.

5. All your monitoring programs (Antivirus/Antispyware, Guards and Shields) will be stopped.

[external image: Posted Image]

Note:
Do not mouse-click combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

6. ComboFix will automatically REBOOT your machine when the KillAll:: switch is used..

7. Post the following logs/Reports:
  • ComboFix.txt
  • Fresh HijackThis log run after all the other tools have performed their cleanup.
CF disconnects your machine from the internet. The connection is automatically restored before CF completes its run. If CF runs into difficulty and terminates prematurely, the connection can be manually restored by restarting your machine.

D. Using Internet Explorer, please do a Kaspersky Online Scan

Answer Yes, when prompted to install an ActiveX component.
  • The program will then begin downloading the latest definition files.
  • Once the files have been downloaded click on NEXT
  • Locate the Scan Settings button & configure as follows:
    • Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
      • Extended
    • Scan Options:
      • Scan Archives
      • Scan Mail Bases
  • Click OK & have it scan My Computer
  • Once the scan is complete, it will provide a report if your system is infected. It does not provide an option to clean/disinfect. We only require a report from it.

    [external image: Posted Image]

  • Click the Save as Text button to save the file to your desktop and post it in your next reply
* Turn off the real time scanner of any existing antivirus program while performing the online scan
Hello Trevuren thanks for your patience, I kinda have a problem. I deleted internet explorer a while ago, i use Firefox. I have had this computer for a while, and it cannot pass Microsoft's genuine advantage check. this is a problem because when i try to download IE 7.0 it tells me i need to pass the certification before i get to install IE 7.0 . Any later versions of IE i have tried to install tells me i have the latest one. I need help to restore back my internet explorer icon. i have done everything you have asked of me up until the scan. thanks in advance! i will post up the two logs later. thanks
i do not have the original, unfortunately.

im not sure if combofix worked properly this time, i did disable norton this time, and it ran though 16 odd steps, heres the log:

I hope you still can help me out! sorry for the trouble!
P.S. - I have two newer desktops with original Cd and product keys.. but not XP professional, its XP Home, think its worth a shot if i find it? thanks a bunch!
i have lost the Cd for this operating system, along with the cd-key.. i understand that it wont validate. i guess its my loss because i wont be able to scan for what i have, other then that, did combofix run correctly? did i mess up somewhere? thanks.
Due to the fact that you are possibly using a non-authorized piece of software, our forum rules dictate that the help that I am able to offer is limited. This will be my final post and the topic will be closed.

A. 1. Go to Start->Run and type in notepad and hit OK.

2. Then copy and paste the content of the following codebox into Notepad:

@Echo off
sc stop MSControlService
sc delete MSControlService
del delete.bat

3. Save the file as "delete.bat". Make sure to save it with the quotes. It should look like this on your desktop: [external image: Posted Image]

4. Double click delete.bat.

B. Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order in which they are mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes.

  • First we need to make all files and folders VISIBLE:

    • Go to start>control panel>folder options>view
    • Choose to "show hidden files and folders,"
    • Uncheck the "hide protected operating system files" and the "hide extensions for know file types" boxes.
    • Close the window with ok

  • Please RUN HijackThis.
. Click the SCAN button to produce a log.

  • Place a check mark beside each one of the following items:

    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [RegistryCleanFixMFC] C:\Program Files\RegistryCleanFix2008\RegistryCleaner2008.exe
    O4 - Global Startup: SRVSPOOL.exe

  • Now with all the items selected, and all windows closed except for HJT, delete them by clicking the FIX checked button. Close the HijackThis window.

  • Reboot Your System in Safe Mode

How to use the F8 method to Start Your Computer in Safe Mode

    • Restart the computer.
    • As soon as BIOS is loaded begin tapping the F8 key until the Advanced Options menu appears.
    • Use the arrow keys to select the Safe mode menu item
    • Press Enter.

  • Using the Add/Remove Programs module in your Control Panel, please UNINSTALL the following program(s). These programs are either malware or come bundled with malware or they are foistware, i-e programs that are usually installed without the user's consent.

    RegistryCleanFix2008

  • Using Windows Explorer (Windows Key + E), locate the following files/folders, and DELETE them (if still present):

    C:\Program Files\RegistryCleanFix2008<== Folder
    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup\SRVSPOOL.exe<==File

  • Exit Explorer, and REBOOT BACK INTO NORMAL MODE

Good Luck
