Thank you in advance for any help you can offer. I'm clueless.

I receive error code 0x80072ee2 when trying to perform a windows update. I am also receiving update error messages for AVG antispyware (which is no longer installed but I'd like to try it again), adawareSE and windows defender. I have tried the options listed in the windows helpfile to no avail and my techie son tried unsuccessfully to resolve the problems yesterday. We disabled sypbot and the other programs, too, but still could not update. Today I tried a system restore but the problem persists. Norton has not updated for months but I'm using AVG so haven't been too concerned about that one.

When I first open Internet explorer, it seems to stall and won't access the internet. But if I close it and reopen, it works okay. There is at least one website (https) that I cannot access from this laptop but it opens with no problem on other systems. I couldn’t even post to this forum from this computer but had to use another. It seems to stall, and then I receive the error that “This webpage cannot be displayed.” Same thing that happens when trying to login to the https website as noted above.

AVGfree virus updates fine and sypbot seems to update okay. I was also able to update spywareblaster today, but not the programs listed above.

The HijackThis logfile is appended below.
