Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press Enter

[external image: Posted Image]

This program will scan large amounts of files on your computer for known patterns so please be patient while it works. It will create a file named:
c:\rapport.txt

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run any other options until you are asked to do so!

Note : process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool"; it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.

Now please reboot your Computer.

Please post:
C:\rapport.txt

You have 3 antispyware programs running with real time monitoring enabled, this is inadvisable as it can lead to conflicts. Please choose one for real time monitoring, you can use the others as on demand scanners. Please don't disable real time monitoring for any of these programs yet, I will give you instructions for that later.
Please let me know what one of these you want to use for real time monitoring:
Ad-Aware
Spybot Search & Destroy
Windows Defender

You don't seem to be running a firewall. If you're not running any firewall or are not sure please follow these instructions to turn Windows Firewall on.

Click on the Windows Start button in the left hand corner of your screen.
Go to Control Panel or settings Control Panel
Double click on Windows Firewall
The two main options are On and Off.
Check to see if there's a checkmark next to On and if not please select it.

Please now let me know if you are using Windows Firewall or another one.

You either did read this part of my previous post and didn't reply or ignored it and haven't as yet worked out what choice you want to make.

Either way please let me know what you've decided in your next reply.

Please print out or copy these instructions/tutorial to Notepad as the Internet will not be (while in Safe Mode) available to you at certain points of the removal process. Make sure to work through all the Steps in the exact order in which they are listed below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before moving on with the fixes.

Reboot your computer in Safe Mode.
  • If the computer is running, shut down Windows, and then turn off the power.
  • Wait 30 seconds, and then turn the computer on.
  • Start tapping the F8 key. The Windows Advanced Options Menu appears. If you begin tapping the F8 key too soon, some computers display a "keyboard error" message. To resolve this, restart the computer and try again.
  • Ensure that the Safe Mode option is selected.
  • Press Enter. The computer then begins to start in Safe mode.
  • Login on your usual account.
______________________________

Open the SmitfraudFix Folder, then double-click smitfraudfix.cmd file to start the tool.
Select option #2 - Clean by typing 2 and press Enter.
Wait for the tool to complete and disk cleanup to finish.
You will be prompted : "Registry cleaning - Do you want to clean the registry ?" answer Yes by typing Y and hit Enter.

[external image: Posted Image]

The tool will also check if wininet.dll is infected. If a clean version is found, you will be prompted to replace wininet.dll. Answer Yes to the question "Replace infected file ?" by typing Y and hit Enter.

A reboot may be needed to finish the cleaning process, if you computer does not restart automatically please do it yourself manually. Reboot in Safe Mode.

The tool will create a log named rapport.txt in the root of your drive, eg: Local Disk C: or partition where your operating system is installed. Please post that log along with all others requested in your next reply.

Please post a new HJT log and let me know how your computer is running now.

PS Sorry about not addressing the spyware clients…must have been taking a mental nap……I think I'll stick with the windows defender…the spybot has been annoying me today….unless you have any other suggestions?

The PC was well behaved all day yesterday…actually thought the nasty was gone, but alas,,,in the eve the pop ups came with avengance..so I guess he's still here somewhere..aaaaarrrrggghhhh!!
Well out of those anti-spyware programs I think Spybot Search & Destroy is the best but if it's annoying you with constant prompts and you find it overwhelming then you might as well go with your choice of Windows Defender.

Assuming you are going with your choice to keep real time monitoring enabled just for Windows Defender then please follow these instructions to disable real time monitoring for the other programs.

For Spybot Search & Destroy
Open Spybot and click on Mode, select Advanced mode
Click Yes to next window.
Click on Tools in bottom left hand corner.
Click on Resident.
Uncheck Resident "TeaTimer" box.
Close Spybot.

For Ad-Aware 2007
1. Right click on the Ad-Watch icon in the system tray and select "Restore Ad-Watch".
2. At the bottom of the screen there will be two checkable items called "Active" and "Automatic".Active: Switches Monitoring On or Off without closing
Automatic: Switches Automatic Blocking On or Off
3. Uncheck (red X) both items.

HJT
Hello! And thanks for your reply.
The Rogue remover said it found nothing,,hence no log to show you. Rebooted..forgot to disable the spybot,,but it is still finding registry changes to the start page that it is blocking…sooo I decided to keep him and disabled windows defender real time protection instead. Adaware adwatch was not enabled because i'm using the free version..so it shouldn't be on.

Here is the latest hjt:

Well Windows Defender still looks enabled, so before doing the HJT fixes I'll ask you to disable it and then you can keep it that way. I'm also going to ask you to temporarily disable Spybot Search & Destroy's real time monitoring(Teamtimer) because both these programs may interfere with the fixes but I'll ask you to enable it again afterwards.

Open Windows Defender.
Click on Tools, General Settings.
Scroll down and uncheck Turn on real-time protection (recommended).
After you uncheck this, click on the Save button and close Windows Defender.

If Teatimer gives you a warning afterwards that some changes were made, allow this instead of blocking it.
Open Spybot and click on Mode, select Advanced mode
Click Yes to next window.
Click on Tools in bottom left hand corner.
Click on Resident.
Uncheck Resident "TeaTimer" box.
Close Spybot.

Open up HijackThis, do a System Scan and select the following entries(if present)
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {7E853D72-626A-48EC-A868-BA8D5E23E045} - (no file)
O3 - Toolbar: edfqvrw - {2E7789D2-AEF7-45BE-8CBF-2CEF5EF9F03B} - C:\WINDOWS\edfqvrw.dll (file missing)
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Windows Defender] "C:\Program Files\Windows Defender\MSASCui.exe" -hide
O21 - SSODL: bfrgnos - {47C0B003-8B14-45F3-87EB-526A94B9A3C7} - C:\WINDOWS\bfrgnos.dll (file missing)

Then close all other windows (you can keep the current browser window open if you like) and press Fix checked and close the program.

Enable Teatimer

Open Spybot
Click on Tools in bottom left hand corner.
Click on Resident.
Check Resident "TeaTimer" box.
Click on Allow change ONLY to popup box with:
Entry: SpybotSD Teatimer
Click on Mode, select Default mode
Close Spybot

Reconfigure Windows XP to show hidden files:
Click Start. Go to All Programs, go to Accessories and then click Windows Explorer
