[Resolved] Win32 Zlob--HELP!

I stupidly ok'd an activeX control for a video player and authorized the win32 Zlob trojan. Trend Micro never warned me. Then it took over my browser–redirecting yahoo, etc to "about-blank." Trend Micro missed it. Ad-Aware found it, but froze and could not clean it. I tried Windows Defender, and found more, which I thought were cleaned. Then I tried the microsoft free clean. It froze also, but discovered 3 infected files in the users and documents & settings folders. But it was not able to clean them.

Somehow my system restore was turned off and I can't restore it to a previous time.

I am at my wits end.

Here's my Hijack This log file:

1/29/08–UPDATE

I read the HijackThis tutorial and fixed/deleted a number of apparently obvious improper entries. I also ran a number of virus and spyware programs–PCCillin (my regular virus program, which failed to warn me of the trojan in the first place), Ad-Aware, Windows Defender, Microsoft Online, and Housecall. Each one seemed to find something after the previous one said that everything was clean. Finally I ran Spy-Bot, which found 9 problems, including three files that still contained the Win32 zlob trojan!! Needless to say, I am afraid to connect to my online banking, or even this forum because I am afraid that my password is being sent to someone, even though all of the above software says that my system is clean. Yesterday I bought an external 100 gig harddrive to backup my pictures and documents that are precious to me. I ran a new hijack-this log, below. Can anyone help me?

Thanks LDT. I hope I did this right, in replying to your reply rather than editing my post. Malwarebytes found several entries infected with TrojanZlob!! Which pleases me and infuriates me, since I have run at least 5 spywares repeatedly–all of which said my computer was clean. They each found something the first time I ran them, then…nothing. It makes me fearful that no matter what I run, that thing will always be there somewhere and my spywares will miss it. Here is the Malwarebytes log. • WARNING: IF you have not already done so Combofix will disconnect your machine from the Internet when it starts
  • Please do not re-connect your machine back to the Internet until Combofix has completely finished.
——————————————————————–

Double click on combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
When finished, it will produce a report for you.
Please post the "C:\ComboFix.txt" along with a new HijackThis log for further review

****Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall or freeze ****

*If there is no internet connection when Combofix has completely finished then restart your computer to restore back the connections.
Here you go LDT. I downloaded and ran combofix, as you said. TrendMicro kept popping up with a warning that dumphive.cfexe file contained the "Freeloader Smithfraud" spyware, but since it was from the site that you recommended, I clicked to ignore it. The log is below.
Afterwards I ran HijackThis, also pasted here.
I couldn't connect to the internet, and didn't remember what your instructions were if I couldn't, so I reset my default gateway, which was missing.

Good job

  • Click START then RUN
  • Now type Combofix /u in the runbox and click OK. Note the space between the X and the U, it needs to be there.

Here's my usual all clean post

    Log looks good :D

You need to create a new Clean restore point.

Note: This will remove all previous Restore Points

Click Start Menu > Run > copy and paste

    %SystemRoot%\System32\restore\rstrui.exe

Press OK. Choose Create a Restore Point then click Next. Name it (something you'll remember) and click Create, when the confirmation screen shows the restore point has been created click Close.
:woot: Thanks LDT!! I ran the 'ComboFix /u' but got an error message that another program was currently using the 'C:\kmd.exe' file. Vista Compatability Assistant gave me the option of reinstalling using "recommended settings," so I did. It uninstalled ComboFix. 'Run' couldn't find '%SystemRoot%\System32\restore\rstrui.exe' so I opened 'System Protection' and created a manual restore point. I clicked to restore to a previous time, just to see if it it wiped out the previous restore points and only saw the restore point that I created, so I assume that all of the previous restore points were wiped out. Thanks so much LDT. :notworthy: Do you think that it is safe for me to switch back to IE again?
