got a virus out of nowhere. Did adaware and avg scan. Nothing worked. Cant even run computer in normal mode. Did a registry backup with erunt, did atf cleaner, did malwarebytes scan and hijack this scan. Here are my logs. Do they look ok for me to try running it in normal mode again?

Hello and Welcome to the forum.

DO NOT use any TOOLS such as Combofix, Vundofix, or HijackThis fixes without supervision.

Doing so could make your pc inoperatible and could require a full reinstall of your OS, losing all your programs and data.

Stay with this topic until I give you the all clean post.

You might want to print these instructions out.

I suggest you do this:

Double-click My Computer.
Click the Tools menu, and then click Folder Options.
Click the View tab.
Uncheck "Hide file extensions for known file types."
Under the "Hidden files" folder, select "Show hidden files and folders."
Uncheck "Hide protected operating system files."
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Please do not delete anything unless instructed to.

Next:

Download ComboFix from one of these locations:

Link 1
Link 2
Link 3

* IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop

  • Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools. Note: If you are having difficulty properly disabling your protective programs, or are unsure as to what programs need to be disabled, please refer to the information available through this link : Protective Programs

  • Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.

  • As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.

  • Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console.

**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will continue it's malware removal procedures.

Once the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see the following message:

[external image: Posted Image]

Click on Yes, to continue scanning for malware.

When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply.
"copy/paste" a new HijackThis log file into this thread as well.

Notes:

1.Do not mouse-click Combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.
2. ComboFix may reset a number of Internet Explorer's settings, including making I-E the default browser.
3. Combofix prevents autorun of ALL CD, floppy and USB devices to assist with malware removal & increase security. If this is an issue or makes it difficult for you – please tell your helper.
4. CF disconnects your machine from the internet. The connection is automatically restored before CF completes its run. If CF runs into difficulty and terminates prematurely, the connection can be manually restored by restarting your machine.

Give it atleast 20-30 minutes to finish if needed.

Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.
A huge difference already. For the past like 4 days I have only been able to boot in safe mode- as in normal mode its just sorta frozen and I cant do anything. And it was really annoying because id be hitting my F10 button to start in safe mood and it never would start on first try, but would on the second. In fact my usb keyboard wouldnt let me get into safemode at all. its like it was disabled so i found an old keyboard to plug in the old keyboard port. Anyways, when combofix restarted i let it do its thing which made it start in normal mode. Already im seeing that I can atleast open the internet. Nothing is seeming sluggish at the moment. I noticed my clock is in military time though now :) anyways. here is my combofix log. Im hoping it looks like it is clean to you.

  • Update your AntiVirus Software - It is imperative that you update your Antivirus software at least once a week
(Even more if you wish). If you do not update your antivirus software then it will not be able to catch any of the new variants that may come out.

  • Use a Firewall - I can not stress how important it is that you use a Firewall on your computer.
Without a firewall your computer is succeptible to being hacked and taken over.
I am very serious about this and see it happen almost every day with my clients.
Simply using a Firewall in its default configuration can lower your risk greatly.

  • Visit Microsoft's Windows Update Site Frequently - It is important that you visit http://www.windowsupdate.com regularly.
This will ensure your computer has always the latest security updates available installed on your computer.
If there are new updates to install, install them immediately, reboot your computer, and revisit the site
until there are no more critical updates.

  • MVPS Hosts file replaces your current HOSTS file with one containing well known ad sites and other bad sites. Basically, this prevents your computer from connecting to those sites by redirecting them to 127.0.0.1 which is your local computer, meaning it will be difficult to infect yourself in the future.
  • Winpatrol

  • Update all these programs regularly - Make sure you update all the programs I have listed regularly.
Without regular updates you WILL NOT be protected when new malicious programs are released.

Only run one Anti-Virus and Firewall program.

So how did I get infected in the first place?

Also: "How to prevent malware"
I was stoked- everything was seeming clean and well. Until- my virus scanner popped up with a message saying it found a threat, the same one "trojan.zlob downloader" so I tell it to delete. It seems to be fine for a min. Then another symptom. A google search will yeild results with proper headings but then link to the same sites no matter what. Like findstuff and other random sites. So I run the malwarebytes again. and it finds a few items once again related. I even did it again with another restart. This rootkit wont go away. when i do a search in google the same sites come up everytime: www.shopasearch.com www.info.com www.monstermarketplace.com/ www.toseeka.com www.megasearch1.com/ www.edmunds.com www.fittingdeals.com bottomdollar.com that sorta thing. the top 5 are the common ones no matter what I search.
It could be that it had to just get that last rootkit out- i dunno we will see. Im afraid something is retroactive and will just come back everyhour only or something.

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe" -atboottime
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [swg] C:\Program Files\Google\GoogleToolbarNotifier\GoogleToolbarNotifier.exe

That just prevents them from running at startup.

Log looks good.
How's it running?
Seems everything is ok. I wonder if that last scan was needed to remove the rootkit or something. Seems good though. Only time will tell. My only question is, now when my computer boots up instead of just going straight in it gives me an option to boot in like Recovery, or windows professional. Didnt used to do that. Was it ERUNT that did that? or one of these other apps I had to to run?
Definitely not gone. A google search brings th\ose same sites still.
