Thanks! The web link you sent me did not work. So, in your absence I went kind of crazy…I went into the folders and deleted the files, however the shared files had me concerned. I also went into my System Admin Tools/Services I disabled the three Symantic things that were still running. In the meantime, I now get an error on my email that it can't reach the server "0x80042108". In the surfing I've done, it appears to have to do with Norton. :( Otherwise, the Internet is working ok, no re-directed sites.
Thank You!

Is Norton Utilities listed in add/remove programs?

I would think Symantec Shared is why you can't use outlook
I reloaded Norton Utilities, as it really does find and fix a lot of windows issues. I thought that maybe it would fix the email thing, but it didn't. It did find 80+ things to fix. Norton Utilities 2002 is a separate thing from Norton 360. Let me know if you think I should take it back off. I'm not sure how to resolve the email thing.
You are da Bomb! Email is operational again. I went back into services and there was a Symantec service thing still running, so I stopped and disabled it then was able to delete the rest of the Symantec files. I also had to uninstall Norton Utilities 2002 in order to find all the files to delete. It's ok…I got the CD on that one and can reload later. Thanks for your patience with me!!

Below are the files from the other computer that I ran this morning. I'm going to post these here and check back tomorrow afternoon for your reply. I'm baked and am heading up to get some winks. Thank you again for all you've done for me!!! I'm assuming that my computer is now a thumbs up? :D

I forgot to tell you. As you can probably see, the hard drive is partitioned. The C:\drive we try to keep to a minimum as it doesn't have much memory. The D:\drive is where we keep most of our programs and large files. We also have an external hard drive attached. I don't know if Malware puts themselves in external hard drives as well? There are also two profiles on that computer, one for each of my kids. It is also a Sony with Windows XP. Let me know if you need anything else. Thanks again!!

Thanks again!
I forgot to mention how the machine is acting. To tell the truth…I never saw the computer act odd, other than hang apps, and that happens a lot all over the place, it's become a way of life. :o)
Please do not delete anything unless instructed to.

1.Click Start > Settings > Control Panel.
2.Next, open Add/Remove Programs and remove if listed:
Symantec Shared

Note:
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [HP Component Manager] "C:\Program Files\HP\hpcoretech\hpcmpmgr.exe"
Checks the internet for updated drivers/utilities for your HP product - update manually. Disabling will remove the error "Windows can\'t shutdown the computer because hpcmpmgr.exe can\'t be ended"

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [HP Software Update] "D:\Program Files\HP\HP Software Update\HPWuSchd2.exe"
HP software updates. If a shortcut doesn't exist, create your own and run it manually

Run hijackthis. Hit None of the above, Click Do a System Scan Only. Put a checkmark/tick in the box on the left side on these:

Close ALL windows and browsers except HijackThis and click "Fix checked"

You need to run ATF cleaner for each user, if they have seperate logins.

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune.
Download - ATF Cleaner»
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Under Main choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.

(If you use FireFox or the Opera browser
To keep saved passwords, click No at the prompt.)

It's normal after running ATF cleaner that the PC will be slower to boot the first time or two.

Reboot and "copy/paste" a new HijackThis log file into this thread.

Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.
