Hi,
What a way to go into christmas!!!!!

I have copied my HJT if someone could have a look.
Have tried stinger/spybot/ccleaner and adaware but still no luck.
Hope someone can help

Welcome, sorry for the delay, the holidays kind of through a monkey wrench into the replies.

This is what I am looking at, this may be the root of your problem. You should only have One Anti Virus and One Firewall installed, more is overkill and not needed and will cause you all sorts of grief. They will use a huge amount of system resources and slow your system down quite a bit.

Your call but you need to uninstall one of these

I see live update running but not the actual program ???
C:\Program Files\Symantec\LiveUpdate <-- This could be hanging you up.


Open HijackThis > Do a System Scan Only, close your browser and all open windows including this one, the only program or window you should have open is HijackThis, check the following entries and click on Fix Checked.

This one is questionable and most likely not needed

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune to your desktop.

• This program is for XP and Windows 2000 only
• Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
• Under Main choose: Select All
• Click the Empty Selected button.

Your system may start up slower after running ATF Cleaner, this is expected but will be back to normal after the first or second boot up


Post a new HJT log and let me know if any of this helped ???

Hi Ken,
Thanks for the response. I wasn't sure how long to leave it after the original post as christmas can get everthing rammed.

Did as you said and below is the new HJT.
One thing that has significantly changed is I cannot turn my pc off now it just reboots. I have to literally pull the plug!!

Good Morning, I still am not looking at any malware on your system. Did you try to remove Symantic at one time, if so the live update is still running as a service ?? Let me know if Symantic is still installed, if not we can remove the rest of it and then put an Anti Virus program back on your system. I had you remove Antivir because I was not sure about Symantec. Ken

First go to your Add Remove Programs in the Control Panel and see if you still have an option to uninstall Symantec.


Then do this

Open HijackThis > Do a System Scan Only, close your browser and all open windows including this one, the only program or window you should have open is HijackThis, check the following entries and click on Fix Checked.

Hi Ken, Thanks for all your help so far. System seems to be running ok. my only bug bears are that on first startup it hangs on my desktop picture for about 80 seconds before loading all the destop icons, and the small problem of not being able to turn it off properly ( Ithink this may be an issue with a new wire adapter I attached last week for internet connection). Aprt from those little issues all running smoothly. Any suggestions of software I should be running regularly to help prevent further problems. I have ccleaner and Adaware se runing most days!! Keep in mind if you install some of these programs. Only ONE Anti Virus and only ONE Firewall is recommended, more is overkill and can cause you problems. You can install all the Spyware programs I have listed without any problems. If you install Spyware Blaster, you can still install Spybot Search and Destroy but do not enable the TeaTimer in Spybot.

Here are some free programs to install, all free and highly regarded by the fine people in the Malware Removal Community

• Spybot Search and Destroy 1.5
  Check for Updates/ Immunize and run a Full System Scan on a regular basis. If you install Spyware Blaster ( Recommended ) then do not enable the TeaTimer in Spybot Search and Destroy.
  
• Spyware Blaster It will prevent most spyware from ever being installed. No scan to run, just update about once a week and enable all protection.
  
• Spyware Guard It offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts, again, no scan to run, just install it and let it do its thing.
  
• IE-Spyad
  IE-Spyad places over 6000 web sites and domains in the IE Restricted list which will severely impair attempts to infect your system. It basically prevents any downloads (cookies etc) from the sites listed, although you will still be able to connect to the sites.
  
• Firefox 2.0.0.11 It has more features and is a lot more secure than IE. It is a very easy and painless download and install, it will no way interfere with IE, you can use them both.
  
• Zone Alarm Here is a free Firewall from Zone Labs, I wouldn't access the internet without it.
