I have been at my wits end. I am sure everyone knows that.
yesterday while trying to find a movie playing site, my avast went haywire warning of trojans. I am familiar with Hijack this from trying to help my daughters with their problems to no avail. This malware on my computer also has hijacked firefox. Firefox and alot of other programs tell me they have to close for such and such a problem and I usually send error reports. I am on IE right now as I cannot download anything in Firefox (my preferred browser) anymore. Once the number of IE windows reaches about 35, my computer freezes up. I don't run outlook so don't know of any issues with that (and hopeful not spread the malware)
thank you so much to any and all help
blessings and Seasons greetings,
Terri

hi,

first we will stop this service:

go to start>run and type in–> services.msc,<–in the list of services that comes up look for>>DomainService

right click on it and select properties.
under the general tab:
the path to the .exe should be: C:\WINDOWS\system32\hjcgxyso.exe

make sure that the service status is: Stopped, if not click the Stop button
and the Startup type is: disabled, if not change it to disable
click apply, then ok

reboot computer once.
i see you have antivirus app but i dont see a anti-malware application.

i would get one of these, install, update and do system scan;

after you use one of the above, rescan and post anew hjt log and see if things improve.

shelf life
thanx so much for your help. I did all of the above and here is a new HJT log (still have popups)

* You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES

ok good so far. if you are still getting the popups we can see if combofix can dig up anything:

Download combofix from one of these links and save it to Desktop:

http://subs.geekstogo.com/ComboFix.exe
http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe

Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log in your next reply

Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall

I think I might be clean!!!! so far no popups! was the IE settings change a default setting? I had to change my default browser back to Firefox too. I won't do anything else til I hear back from you but so far no popups woohoo!
hi,

ok good. thanks for the info. look here: C:\Program Files and delete the entire MalwareBot folder

Copy the entire contents inside the Quote box below and Paste it into Notepad ( this will only work with Notepad ) name the file fix.reg and in the drop down box, save it as All Files. Save it to your desktop. Then right click on the fix.reg file you just saved– and click on Merge, when it asks you to merge with the Registry, say yes.

hi, ok good. look here: C:\Documents and Settings\grammaterri\Application Data and delete the malwarebot folder. may have to do this first to see the application dir. FOr XP: on the desktop double click my computer,go to tools>folder options>view> then select "show hidden files and folders", then UNcheck "hide protected operating system files " also UNcheck "hide extensions for known file types" click apply to all folders, apply then ok
hi, good. glad to help. one last thing is to make a new restore point just in case anything got in there. also you can delete combofix like this: start>run and type in combofix /u there is a space after the "x" and before the / you can also delete the vundofix icon. ——————————————————— One of the features of Windows ME or XP is the System Restore option, however if a malware infects a computer with this operating system it can be backed up in the System Restore folder. Therefore, clearing the restore points is agood idea after malware is removed. To reset your restore points, please note that you will need to log into your computer with an account which has full administrator access. You will know if the account has administrator access because you will be able to see the System Restore tab. If the tab is missing, you are logged in under a limited account. (winXP) 1. Turn off System Restore. (deletes old possibly infected restore point) On the Desktop, right-click My Computer. Click Properties. Click the System Restore tab. Check Turn off System Restore. Click Apply, and then click OK. 2. Reboot. 3. Turn ON System Restore.(new restore points on a clean system) On the Desktop, right-click My Computer. Click Properties. Click the System Restore tab. UN-Check *Turn off System Restore*. Click Apply, and then click OK, then reboot happy safe surfing out there.
