I've been scanning some of the threads here and I seem to be having the same problem as a lot of other people. I started getting numerous popup windows and alerts about spyware and virus activity.

When I click the OK button it tries to load a webpage at IP 77.91.228.180, that appears to be a page for safenavweb.com, but the page never loads.

EDIT: In reading the recommendtions for new users, I see an an advisory that I should restart if I've run any other spyware or scanning apps. I did download and run CA Anti Virus this morning and didn't restart. If I should post a new log file, please let me know.

I've followed the advice re: HijackThis, and downloaded and run the program, and generated a log. Here are the results. If you can help I will appreciate it:

Hello, and welcome to the forum.

My name is Simon V., and I'll be glad to help you with your computer problems.

Step 1

Please download SmitfraudFix (by S!ri).

  • Double-click on SmitfraudFix.exe. A screen will pop up. Select Option 1 (Search) by typing 1 and hit Enter. A text file will appear, which will list the infected files. Save it to a convenient location.
  • The log will also be saved here: C:\rapport.txt

Note: process.exe is detected by some Anti-Virus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool"; it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.

Step 2

Open HijackThis.

  • Click on the Config button.
  • Click on the Misc Tools button.
  • Click on the Open Uninstall Manager button.
  • Click on the Save list... button and save the file to a convenient location. When you press Save, Notepad will open with the contents of that file.

Step 3

In your next reply, please post:

  • the SmitfraudFix log (C:\rapport.txt)
  • the Uninstall List (uninstall_list.txt)
  • a new HijackThis log
