Hi.

Looking for help please?
We're getting a fake 'Windows Security Alert' popup suggesting 'click here for total protection'. secondarybrowser windows open when this popup is closed, addressing securepccleanup, trustedantivirus or safewebnavigate sites. Plus a popup tites 'Spyware Alert' - this one says Trojan.W32.Looksky has benn detected - click yes to remove from your computer..Plus an icon on the toolbar stating 'Security Alert'.

My name is Scotty. I would be glad to take a look at your log and help you with solving any malware problems. HijackThis logs can take a while to research.
Please be patient and I'd be grateful if you would note the following:
  • I will working be on your Malware issues, this may or may not, solve other issues you have with your machine.
  • The fixes are specific to your problem and should only be used for this issue on this machine.

Download and Run ComboFix
  • Download this file from below:

    Here
  • Disconnect from the Internet, than disable your anti-virus and any real-time anti-spyware monitors that are running.
  • Then double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
  • When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log in your next reply with a new HijackThis log.
Note 1: Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall
Note 2:Remember to re-enable your anti-virus and anti-spyware before reconnecting to the Internet.

thanks for picking me up!!

Combofix report one 'Access denied' message, then re-started AVG, S&D and NAV when the program rebooted my PC. Then I had to answer multiple S&D questions about Accept/Deny cange to some registry and browser items. Hope I got them right. The S&D filled the right side with 6 or 7 message boxes above the rhd of the taskbar, the top one blinking/repeating!

Disable Teatimer
First:
  • Right click Spybot in the System Tray (looks like a calendar with a padlock symbol)
  • Choose Exit Spybot S&D Resident
Second:
  • Open Spybot S&D
  • Click Mode, check Advanced Mode
  • Go To Left Panel, Click Tools, then also in left panel, click Resident
  • If your firewall raises a question, say OK
  • Uncheck the box labeled Resident Tea-Timer and OK any prompts.
  • Use File, Exit to terminate Spybot
  • Reboot your machine for the changes to take effect.
Open Notepad and Copy/Paste the text in the codebox below into it:

Refering to the picture above, drag CFScript into ComboFix.exe
Then post the resultant log.

Go to Start > Control Panel > Display Properties > Desktop > Customize Desktop… > Web tab
Select everything named Privacy Protection or privacy_danger you find in there and press the Delete button on the right.
Hit OK then Apply in previous window.

Run HijackThis, select Do a system scan only and place checks against the following entries (if they are still present):

  • R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://softwarereferral.com/jump.php?wmid=…6Ojg5&lid=2
    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {7E853D72-626A-48EC-A868-BA8D5E23E045} - (no file)

    Make sure AVG-AS is up to date before following the next step, and read the instructions carefully, to ensure a report is generated

    Run a scan with AVG.
    • Click on Scanner
      • Click on the Settings tab, and set the following settings.
      • How to act
      • Click on Recommended actions, and set to Quarantine.
    • How to scan
      • Check all options.
    • Possibly unwanted software.
      • Check all options.
    • Reports
      • Check Do not automatically generate reports after every scan.
    • What to scan
      • Check Scan every file.
  • Click on the Scan tab.
    • Click on Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
    • When the scan has finished
    • Make sure that Set all elements to: shows Quarantine, if not click on the link and choose Quarantine from the popup menu.
    • At the bottom of the window click on the Apply all Actions button.
Note: Don't save the report before you hit the Apply action button.

Close AVG Anti-Spyware.

AVG will save a report in the following location C:\Program Files\Grisoft\AVG anti-spyware 7.5\Reports

Post back with the
  • Combofix log
  • AVG report
  • new HijackThis log


WITH ALL OTHER WINDOWS CLOSED Click on Fix Checked and exit HijackThis.

Hi You can click on the Spybot icon on your Desktop or run Spybot from Start>All Programs. Teatimer's function is to protect your Registry from potentially harmful changes. We will be making changes to the registry so to avoid interference we must disable Teatimer for the moment.

Hi

Delete the Combofix icon from your desktop then navigate to and delete these folders (if they are present)

AVG-AntiSpyware is only a 30day full product trial after which, if you do not subscribe, loses the real-time scanner function,amongst others. You can decide whether you wish to keep it, as an extra on-demand scanner or simply choose to uninstall it. If you decide to keep it, you will have to update manually before every scan.

I would suggest uninstalling Spybot and then reinstalling to start afresh. Once you have done that, post a new HijackThis log and let me know how the computer is behaving.
