In another post I cataloged my virus problems but there was a completely separate incident that i want to now relay, called FORM 1. Does anyone know what it is?
During a download of demo PDA software from a known site, on the taskbar appeared an open file named FORM 1. I was working and didnt consider it was anything unrelated to the download, even though i thought it quite odd that the name didnt match the download name.
The download finished but FORM 1 remained on the taskbar, minimized. When i clicked it, the PC blinked black for 1/2 second and the new desktop was empty, except for a few empty folders! The entire harddrive contents were MIA, even desktop background pics. Recycle bin was also empty. All gone!
I couldnt believe that 60gb of files could simply disappear. The mouse still functioned, thats it. I rebooted and it was the same, everything blank. I reinstalled Windows. Had my external HD been connected at that time, i would have lost my entire life.
After the new install of XP, the moment i went online MSN Messenger began sending messages and a zipped file called PIC0023.jpg to everyone on my list.
This was the worst catastrophe ever. Does anyone know what FORM 1 is, how it erased the HD, and were my files compromised because I was online at the time?
Forgive me for posting in HijackThis, I dont see where else to put this post.
