Hi there, I keep getting these pop up in Windows telling me that my computer is at risk but when clicking I am sent to pcsecuritylab.com which I learnt is no good to say the least. Also my Windows background has changed to a screen telling me that my computer is infected. Please see Hijackthis log below. I've tried Noadware and Ad-aware but they don't help. They find alot of stuff and I remove what I find but then everything comes back again immediately after. I appreciate any help with this! Hi Gustaf and welcome to the forums.

My name is Dave. I would be glad to take a look at your log and help you with solving any malware problems. HijackThis logs can sometimes take a while to research so please be patient and I'd be grateful if you would note the following:
  • I will working be on your Malware issues, this may or may not, solve other issues you have with your machine.
  • The fixes are specific to your problem and should only be used for this issue on this machine.
  • Please continue to review my answers until I tell you your machine appears to be clear. Absence of symptoms does not mean that everything is clear.
  • It's often worth reading through these instructions and printing them for ease of reference.
  • If you don't know or understand something, please don't hesitate to say or ask!! It's better to be sure and safe than sorry.
  • Please reply to this thread. Do not start a new topic.

Looks like Smitfraud infection to me. Let's check first.

Please download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri) to your Desktop.

Double-click SmitfraudFix.exe
Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press "Enter"; a text file will appear, which lists infected files (if present).
Please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.

**If the tool fails to launch from the Desktop, please move SmitfraudFix.exe directly to the root of the system drive (usually C:), and launch from there.

Note : process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool"; it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.

Dave,

thanks for your reply. Since my first post I did the instructions I found here

http://www.myantispyware.com/2007/11/17/ho…abcom-hijacker/

The original symptoms seem to have disappeared, however I include a new Hijackthis log. How does the new log look to you?

Hi Gustaf, This line still shows as Smitfraud: O2 - BHO: egmulhxk.msdn_hlp - {477840F3-BA52-44D9-8E41-38D61CAA010F} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\egmulhxk.dll It may be neutralized but I would suggest you still run the check for Smitfraud and post that log. Also, that thread advised combofix. Do you still have the log that it produced? If so post that. Many times CF will fix most but not all, and a script is needed as described in the link you gave me. Thanks, Dave
Dave, again many thanks for digging into my problem. Here is the Smitfraudfix log. I am not sure if I have the Combofix log (I get back if I find it). I might add that I sometimes get a notice about the failure of "Remote Procedure Call" and then the computer automatically restart after 60 seconds. Sorry for the delay in getting back here. I've had some problems with email notifications.

Here is what I suggest if you are still having issues.

Please download ComboFix by sUBs from HERE or HERE
  • You must download it to and run it from your Desktop
  • Now STOP all your monitoring programs (Antivirus/Antispyware, Guards and Shields) as they could easily interfere with ComboFix.
  • Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
  • When finished, it will produce a log. Please save that log to post in your next reply along with a fresh HJT log
  • Re-enable all the programs that were disabled during the running of ComboFix..

Note:
Do not mouse-click combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

CF disconnects your machine from the internet. The connection is automatically restored before CF completes its run. If CF runs into difficulty and terminates prematurely, the connection can be manually restored by restarting your machine.
