Thanks for the help!!
hi,

i see antivirus (to many) but i dont see a antimalware app in the log. antivirus and antimalware cover different threats.
it looks like you also have 2 antivirus?

eTrust EZ Antivirus
McAfee\VirusScan

only need one av on the computer. nevermind, now i see MS antispyware, (a antimalware app) have you scanned with it? does it come up clean?what about your AV?
————————————

this looks way out of place:
C:\WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution\Download\243c97729a3a8fbb5f1e18f85169b8de\update\update.exe

go to this website:
http://www.virustotal.com/

browse for the file, looks like some folders maybe with a .exe (update.exe) in the last one, if you can find it on your computer upload it (update.exe) to hte website. post the results back in next reply. also please rename your hjt icon to something like scan.exe then rescan and post a new hjt log.
I attempted to follow the directions but I could not find that file anywhere… I know it is different to have multiple av apps but my school would not let me on their system without both… I tried to run the microsoft spyware but it is expired. The av scans are not coming up clean but can not seem to fix the problem. Here is the new hjt scan:

hi,

sorry for delay. ok lets do a online scan first, then run another download:

ok first: online scan:
ESET online scanner:

http://www.eset.com/onlinescan/

uses Internet Explorer only
check "YES" to accept terms
click start button
allow the ActiveX component to install
click the start button. the Scanner will update.
check both "Remove found threats" and "Scan unwanted applications"
click scan
when done you can find the scan log at:C:\Program Files\EsetOnlineScanner\log.txt
please copy/paste that log in next reply.

next:
Download combofix from one of these links and save it to Desktop:

http://subs.geekstogo.com/ComboFix.exe
http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe

Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log in your next reply

Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall

i will post back sooner next time.

shelf life
Here is the combofix log:

so does that mean that I am good? Is there anything else on there that looks questionable? Thank-you soooo much for your help!!
hi,

your welcome. ok do this;

Copy the entire contents inside the Quote box and Paste it into Notepad ( this will only work with Notepad ) name the file Regfix.reg and in the drop down box, save it as All Files. Save it to your desktop. Then Rightclick on the Regfix.reg file and click on Merge, when it asks you to merge with the Registry, say yes.

hi, got something for you –see if this will do the job Your version of Sun Java is out of date. Older versions have vulnerabilities that malware can use to infect your system. Please follow these steps to remove older versions of Sun Java, and then update. 1. Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) >>>http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp 2. Scroll down to where it says 'Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 update 3'. 3. Click the "Download" button to the right. 4. Check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement". 5. The page will refresh. 6. Click on the link to download 'Windows Offline Installation, Multi-language' and save to your desktop. 7. Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser. 8. Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on Add/Remove programs and remove all older versions of Java. 9. Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name. 10. Click the Change/Remove button. 11. Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java version. 12. Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed. 13. Then from your desktop double-click on jre-6u3-windows-i586-p.exe to install the newest version.
