I've been following the directions "Before Posting a Hijackthis Log Self-Help" and have just completed running the AVG Anti-Spyware program. It found 2 threats and I hit the "Apply all actions" to quarantine them. However, I'm getting a Warning message "The file C:\Documents and Settings\Morozov\Local Settings\Temp\BIT2E9.tmp/ac8zt2/main_uninstaller.exe cannot be quarantined because it is embedded in the archive C:\Documents and Settings\Morozov\Local Settings\Temp\BIT2E9.tmp. Do you want to quarantine the whole archive? Should I do this? Thanks! MollyMarie
Hello,
I've been having several problems on my pc lately:

- Popups occuring indicating a virus has been found including worm.win32.netsky
- PC wallpaper turns to red background indicating a virus has been found.
- All IE explorer sessions disappear
- McAfee blocking Trojans Puper, Generic.f, AdClicker-FC
- Receiving email rejections from addresses I have never sent to before. These occurring in bulk.

Before I found this forum, I downloaded, installed and ran SUPER AntiSpyware. It didn't seem to help.

I've followed the instructions under "Before Posting A Hijackthis Log "Self Help"". I've run ATF Cleaner, Spybot, and AVG Anti-Spyware.

Here is my AVG log:

Download the trial version of AVG Anti-Spyware from here and install it. When the program has been installed, and you click the Finish button, AVG Anti-Spyware will open.

  • Click the Update icon at the top and under Manual Update click the Start update button.
  • The program will either update or inform you that no update was available.
  • It is essential that you get the update - keep trying until successful. (Note: If you have problems getting the update, you can download an installer for the full database from here (save it on your desktop). Once you have downloaded the installer, make sure that AVG Anti-Spyware is closed and then double-click on avgas-signatures-full-current.exe to install the database).
Please set up the program as follows:
  • Click the Shield icon at the top and under Resident shield is… click active. This should now
    change to inactive.

This program will scan large amounts of files on your computer for known patterns so please be patient while it works. It will create a file named:
c:\rapport.txt

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run any other options until you are asked to do so!

Note : process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool"; it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.

Please post:
C:\rapport.txt
Hi LDTate,
Thank you so much for answering my posting!
Before I run the items you suggested to run, I wanted to give you an update on what's going on with my pc. I decided to try a few other things while waiting for an answer.
I had run spybot, AVG Anti-Spyware and my McAfee scans several times. They kept coming up with the zlob entry. Everytime I rebooted, it came back. So,I deleted the registery folder indicated in the scan found by Spybot. (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\VideoPlugin) That seemed to help a little but I was still getting some popups. A friend of mine told me to download and use some software called Adware Alert because it worked for them. I ran it and it found alot of stuff, about 2450 entries. I had it clean/quarantine these items and my computer has been working better now…no popups. However, I still very concerned that something may be on my system. I ran a new hijack this report and am attaching it. Please let me know if I should still run the programs you suggested.

Thanks!

AVG Anti-Spyware

Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.
Ok, I've run this. My computer seems to be working ok now. No more popups or virus detections going on. Yeahh!! So this looks like its cleaned up. On Sunday before I had applied any changes, we received a whole bunch of "Returned mail" & "Delivery Status Notification"'s in our email Inbox from addresses we have never sent anything to before. I'm wondering if this has been fixed with these changes that have been applied. What do you think? Thanks! MollyMarie

I'm wondering if this has been fixed with these changes that have been applied. What do you think?

If your email has been "spoofed" , what we did might not have fixed that. You'll need to see how it goes.

Good job

  • Click START then RUN
  • Now type Combofix /u in the runbox and click OK. Note the space between the X and the U, it needs to be there.

    • [external image: Posted Image]
  • If shown the disclaimer, Select "2"

Here's my usual all clean post

Log looks good :D

You need to create a new Clean restore point.

Note: This will remove all previous Restore Points

Click Start Menu > Run > copy and paste

%SystemRoot%\System32\restore\rstrui.exe

Press OK. Choose Create a Restore Point then click Next. Name it (something you'll remember) and click Create, when the confirmation screen shows the restore point has been created click Close.

Double-click My Computer.
Click the Tools menu, and then click Folder Options.
Click the View tab.
Check "Hide file extensions for known file types."
Under the "Hidden files" folder, Uncheck "Show hidden files and folders."
Check "Hide protected operating system files."
Click Apply, and then click OK.

  • Make your Internet Explorer more secure - This can be done by following these simple instructions:
    • From within Internet Explorer click on the Tools menu and then click on Options.
    • Click once on the Security tab
    • Click once on the Internet icon so it becomes highlighted.
    • Click once on the Custom Level button.
      • Change the Download signed ActiveX controls to Prompt
      • Change the Download unsigned ActiveX controls to Disable
      • Change the Initialize and script ActiveX controls not marked as safe to Disable
      • Change the Installation of desktop items to Prompt
      • Change the Launching programs and files in an IFRAME to Prompt
      • Change the Navigate sub-frames across different domains to Prompt
      • When all these settings have been made, click on the OK button.
      • If it prompts you as to whether or not you want to save the settings, press the Yes button.
    • Next press the Apply button and then the OK to exit the Internet Properties page.
  • Update your AntiVirus Software - It is imperative that you update your Antivirus software at least once a week
(Even more if you wish). If you do not update your antivirus software then it will not be able to catch any of the new variants that may come out.

  • Use a Firewall - I can not stress how important it is that you use a Firewall on your computer.
Without a firewall your computer is succeptible to being hacked and taken over.
I am very serious about this and see it happen almost every day with my clients.
Simply using a Firewall in its default configuration can lower your risk greatly.

For a tutorial on Firewalls and a listing of some available ones see the link below:

    Understanding and Using Firewalls

  • Visit Microsoft's Windows Update Site Frequently - It is important that you visit http://www.windowsupdate.com regularly.
This will ensure your computer has always the latest security updates available installed on your computer.
If there are new updates to install, install them immediately, reboot your computer, and revisit the site
until there are no more critical updates.

  • Install Spybot - Search and Destroy - Install and download Spybot - Search and Destroy with its TeaTimer option.
This will provide realtime spyware & hijacker protection on your computer alongside your virus protection.
You should also scan your computer with this program on a regular basis just as you would an antivirus software.

A tutorial on installing & using this product can be found here:

Using Spybot - Search & Destroy to remove Spyware , Malware, and Hijackers
  • Install SpywareBlaster - SpywareBlaster will add a large list of programs and sites into your Internet Explorer
settings that will protect you from running and downloading known malicious programs.

A tutorial on installing & using this product can be found here:

Using SpywareBlaster to protect your computer from Spyware and Malware

  • IE-SPYAD puts over 5000 sites in your restricted zone so you'll be protected when you visit innocent-looking sites that aren't actually innocent at all.

Using IE-SPYAD to help block unwanted sites and activities

  • Update all these programs regularly - Make sure you update all the programs I have listed regularly.
Without regular updates you WILL NOT be protected when new malicious programs are released.

Only run one Anti-Virus and Firewall program.
