Welcome to What The Tech. Sorry if there was a delay, it's a busy forum.

Some trojans have a way of masking their presence from the HijackThis program when they recognize the name. I think that this is the case here because there are no 02 or 020 entries visible in your log.

Please locate the following file on your desktop: HijackThis.exe
Next, right click on the file and from the popup menu that appears, choose the RENAME option and rename the file Killer.exe.

From now on, when I ask you to start HijackThis, just click on the Killer.exe file.

Once renamed, please click on Killer.exe, scan, and post the resulting log.

1. Download this file - combofix.exe
2. Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
3. When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log in your next reply

Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall

Your computer will be automatically disconnected from the internet for a period of time whilst the tool is running. It should also automatically reconnect itself. If, after the tool has completed its task, your computer fails to reconnect to the internet please restart your machine manually.

I'd like to see an Uninstall List.
Please open up HijackThis.
Click on Config
Click on Misc Tools
Click on Open Uninstall Manager
Click on Save
A notepad document will open with a list of your installed programs. Please copy that into your reply.

Let me know how your computer is running now.

Thankyou and if you can let me know what I should be aware of, it will be much appreciated!
You have or had malware on your computer that has harvested personal information. Please change all passwords and contact any financial institutions ASAP. However it is very important you do so from another computer as the one you're using is still at risk!

You didn't save ComboFix to the Desktop. This is the preferred location. Please move it to the Desktop and run it again, then post the results in your next post. If ComboFix has been deleted(as you did run it from a temporary folder) please download it again from here and make sure you save it to the Desktop this time.

Please post a new HijackThis log and try to post back with the logs needed as soon as you can.

Hi Enigmachick,

Hi djsamoa,

My name is Trevuren. EnigmaChick has asked me to help with this infection as some of the items are not seen too often. I need you to follow my directions to the letter and complete all the procedures in one sitting. This must be your #1 priority if you want to prevent any further damage from occurring.

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order in which they are mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes.

A. Using Windows Explorer, (Windows Key + E), please locate the following files, one at a time, and open them using Notepad. You may have to right click on the file and choose what program to use to open the .dat file. If Notepad is not available, use the "Browse" button and navigate to the C:\Windows\system32\ folder where you will find Notepad. Just click on Notepad then exit the file association popup window. Now try to open these files:

C:\Documents and Settings\Paul John Magele\x.dat
C:\Documents and Settings\Paul John Magele\z.dat

B.
If you are unable to open the x.dat and z.dat files, please use the following method to locate the files and open them in a way that you are able to read the content:

Download SDFix and save it to your Desktop.

Double click SDFix.exe and it will extract the files to %systemdrive%
(Drive that contains the Windows Directory, typically C:\SDFix)

Please then reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
  • Restart your computer
  • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
  • Instead of Windows loading as normal, the Advanced Options Menu should appear;
  • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press Enter.
  • Choose your usual account.
  • Open the extracted SDFix folder and double click RunThis.bat to start the script.
  • Type Y to begin the cleanup process.
  • It will remove any Trojan Services and Registry Entries that it finds then prompt you to press any key to Reboot.
  • Press any Key and it will restart the PC.
  • When the PC restarts the Fixtool will run again and complete the removal process then display Finished, press any key to end the script and load your desktop icons.
  • Once the desktop icons load the SDFix report will open on screen and also save into the SDFix folder as Report.txt
(Report.txt will also be copied to Clipboard ready for posting back on the forum).

C. Now, using Windows Explorer as described above, locate the following folder: C:\SDFix\Data.txt. The SDFix tool will have identified those files and moved them into the preceeding folder and given them a .txt extension. There you should open them with Notepad and have a quick peek at the contents which should tell you what info was stolen. Note: There may be more than 2 copies.

They should appear like this:

Entry Name : http://www.teamliquid.net/mytlnet/login.php
Type : AutoComplete
Stored In : Protected Storage
User Name : XXXX
Password : ********
==================================================

D. Write down all the information that has been stolen from your machine and it will help you to know what passwords etc.., bank accounts, etc… that need to be changed.

E. As soon as you have finished taking note of the stolen data, please do the following IMMEDIATELY:

1. Please open Notepad
  • Click Start , then Run
  • Type notepad .exe in the Run Box.

2. Now copy/paste the entire content of the codebox below into the Notepad window:

KillAll::

File::
C:\Documents and Settings\Paul John Magele\x.dat
C:\Documents and Settings\Paul John Magele\z.dat
C:\WINDOWS\system32\vbzip10.dll
C:\WINDOWS\Fonts\Crack.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\ddayy.dll

Registry::
[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\~\Browser Helper Objects\{BBB05D9E-0297-404D-A6BF-D8F2876B84A6}]

3. Now physically disconnect from the internet and STOP all your monitoring programs (Antivirus/Antispyware, Guards and Shields)

4. Save the above as CFScript.txt

5. Then drag the CFScript.txt into ComboFix.exe as depicted in the animation below. This will start ComboFix again.

[external image: Posted Image]

Note:
Do not mouse-click combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

6. After you have saved the logs, restart your system to re-enable all the programs that were disabled during the running of ComboFix.

7. Reconnect to the internet

8. Post the following logs/Reports:
  • The SDFix Report.txt
  • ComboFix.txt
  • Fresh HijackThis log run after all the other tools have performed their cleanup.

E. Finally, just as a precautionary measure, use the Windows Search function and do a search for the following files on every drive and in every account:

x.dat
z.dat

If you find any more, IMMEDIATELY DELETE THEM.

Regards,

Trevuren
Hi Trevuren,

Thanks to you and Enigmachick with the help and concerns so far, I have noted all the information that has been stolen and will quickly make a change of this. I never thought it was this bad & cant believe how people in the world have nothing to do besides causing problems on our PC's, LUCKILY we have people such as yourself and EnigmaChick helping us out!

Anyways, As per your request,

We are happy to be able to help. There are still a couple of deletions to perform but we will wait to see what we pick up here and do everything at once:

Please use the Internet Explorer browser, and do an online scan with Kaspersky Online Scanner
Click Yes, when prompted to install its ActiveX component.
(Note.. for Internet Explorer 7 users: If at any time you have trouble with the "Accept" button of the license, click on the "Zoom" tool located at the bottom right of the IE window and set the zoom to 75 %. Once the license has been accepted, reset to 100%.)
The program launches and downloads the latest definition files.
  • Once the files are downloaded click on Next
  • Click on Scan Settings and configure as follows:
    • Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
      • Extended
    • Scan Options:Scan Archives
      Scan Mail Bases
  • Click OK and, under select a target to scan, select My Computer
When the scan is done, in the Scan is completed window (below), any infection is displayed.
There is no option to clean/disinfect, however, we need to analyze the information on the report.

[external image: Posted Image]
To obtain the report:
Click on: Save Report As (above - red blinking arrow)
Next, in the Save as prompt, Save in area, select: Desktop
In the File name area, use KScan, or something similar
In Save as type, click the drop arrow and select: Text file [*.txt]
Then, click: Save
Please post the Kaspersky Online Scanner Report in your reply, along with a fresh HijackThis log
Hi Trevuren,

it feels like these viruses are never ending!

Not only will it feel as if the virus are never ending, but they will never end as long as you continue to download/share "cracked" software. That is where you are picking all this garbage up.

A. Please DELETE the following files/folders as they are either unwanted tools or infected based upon the Kaspersky scan:

C:\MUSIC\Resume Maker Pro 11.0 Keygen.zip
C:\MUSIC EMULE\Nero 7 Premium v7.8.5.0 Multi+[FULL]By neo30.rar
C:\WINDOWS\SDFIX<== Folder and all its content

B. Congratulations, your logs look CLEAN

There are a few things you must do once you system is completely clean:

Time for some housekeeping
  • Click START then RUN
  • Now type Combofix /u in the runbox and click OK

    • [external image: Posted Image]

  • When shown the disclaimer, Select "2"

The above procedure will:
  • Delete the following:
    • ComboFix and its associated files and folders.
    • VundoFix backups, if present
    • The C:\Deckard folder, if present
    • The C:_OtMoveIt folder, if present
  • Reset the clock settings.
  • Hide file extensions, if required.
  • Hide System/Hidden files, if required.
  • Reset System Restore.

Here are some tips to reduce the potential for spyware infection in the future:

1. Make sure you keep your Windows OS currentby visiting Windows update
regularly to download and install any critical updates and service packs. With out these you are leaving the backdoor open.

2. I strongly recommend installing the following applications:
  • Spywareblaster <= SpywareBlaster will prevent spyware from being installed.
  • Spywareguard <= SpywareGuard offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts.
  • How to use Ad-Aware to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Ad-Aware.
  • How to use Spybot to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Spybot. Similar to Ad-Aware, I strongly recommend both to catch most spyware.
To protect yourself further:
  • Spyad <= IE/Spyad places over 4000 websites and domains in the IE Restricted list which will severely impair attempts to infect your system. It basically prevents any downloads (Cookies etc) from the sites listed, although you will still be able to connect to the sites.
  • MVPS Hosts file <= The MVPS Hosts file replaces your current HOSTS file with one containing well know ad sites etc. Basically, this prevents your coputer from connecting to those sites by redirecting them to 127.0.0.1 which is your local computer
And also see TonyKlein's good advice
So how did I get infected in the first place?

Regards,

Trevuren
