Ok… heres a description of my problem…

I keep getting pop-ups (already had my typing interupted 11 times since I started this sentence) some warn me of attacks or viruses and one includes the name Worm.Win32.NetSky in the warning. I also keep getting random explorer windows opening with sites for anti-virus software. I've counted about 8 different sites.

Also I no longer have control over my desktop, it has been hijacked and the image is warning me that my privacy is in danger. When I right click and select properties I am not able to access anything that used to come up like background and screen saver, the tabs simply don't exist anymore.

My homepage is now something to do with anti-virus

I have a new toolbar about anti-virus as well as some new desktop icons that have the same symbols.

Thank you in advance for helping me with this… I urgently need my computer back under my own control or I'm going to be jobless within a week.

Here is a copy of my hijackthis log:

Welcome to the forum.

1. Download RVAXO.exe to your desktop.

2. Double click on RVAXO.exe and choose unzip.
It will install to a folder called Rvaxo.

3. Now open up the Rvaxo folder and double click on RVAXO

You will see a small window pop up, and quickly some lines will run , then the window will close by itself, this is normal behavior.
Then it is possible for an uninstaller of some roque scanner to start up, do not close this but follow all prompts there, and let it run its course.

4. When it's done the computer will reboot…..press any key to reboot.

5. After reboot RVAXO will run again, let it finish

6. After it's done it will create a file called RVAXO-results.log in C:\RVAXO-results.log

7. Copy and paste it back here

Note:
You can use Uninstall.cmd to remove everything from RVAXO, it will be found in the RVAXO-folder on your desktop.

—————–

Next…….

Please download SUPERAntiSpyware Home Edition (free)

Install it and double-click the icon on your desktop to run it.
It will ask if you want to update the program definitions, click Yes, Let it through your firewall!
Under Configuration and Preferences, click the Preferences button.
Click the Scanning Control tab.
Under Scanner Options make sure the following are checked:
  • Close browsers before scanning
  • Scan for tracking cookies
  • Terminate memory threats before quarantining.
  • Ignore System Restore/Volume Information on ME and XP
  • Please leave the others unchecked.
  • Click the Close button to leave the control center screen.
On the main screen, under Scan for Harmful Software click Scan your computer.
On the left check C:\Fixed Drive.
On the right, under Complete Scan, choose Perform Complete Scan.
Click Next to start the scan. Please be patient while it scans your computer.
After the scan is complete a summary box will appear. Click OK.
Make sure everything in the white box has a check next to it, then click Next.
It will quarantine what it found and if it asks if you want to reboot, click
Yes.

To retrieve the removal information - please do the following:
  • After reboot, double-click the SUPERAntispyware icon on your desktop.
  • Click Preferences . Click the Statistics/Logs tab .
  • Under Scanner Logs , double-click SUPERAntiSpyware Scan Log .
  • It will open in your default text editor (such as Notepad/Wordpad).
  • Please highlight everything , then right-click and choose copy.
  • Click close and close again to exit the program.
Now please paste the removal information along with a fresh HijackThis log in your reply. If it's a large log, you may need several replies to post it.
Please don't forget the log from RVAXO.

Good Luck, MrC
Thank you so much for your help!!!

First I need to let you know that AFTER I posted this topic I found the instructions of what to do BEFORE you post your hijackthis log. So I began following those steps. Therefore, when I received your reply I had already downloaded and used ATF Cleaner as well as Spybot. Spybot removed 183 items, mostly from MyWebSearch and FunWeb. After completing this I had my background picture back, also the toolbar and desktop icons were gone. (I had not yet downloaded AVG and unless you say otherwise I don't intend to download it)

I then received your response and followed your instructions. I am no longer receiving pop ups, random explorer windows, my home page is normal, and it does not keep changing the active window on me anymore.

Here are the logs you requested:

I also have one other problem… Before I started fixing all of this my mother-in-law plugged her ScanDisk MP3 player into the computer. As I'm sure you can guess, it isn't working anymore. What can I do about that? And thanks again for everything! I wish I could donate today but I'll have to come back when I have room on the credit card. You are a miracle worker in the mind of this mere mortal
OK…just get these………

Close ALL programs down, leaving ONLY HijackThis running - Click Scan and…..
Place a check against the following items if found:

O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {57F02779-3D88-4958-8AD3-83C12D86ADC7} - (no file)
O8 - Extra context menu item: &Search - ?p=ZR
O18 - Protocol: schmap-help - (no CLSID) - (no file)

Click on Fix Checked and exit HijackThis.
