When checking my computer this evening, I was greeted with several pop-ups. One says that 'Windows has detected an Internet attack attempt...' and so on. After clicking ok it takes me to this website http://www.safenavwe...0...;pn=5&pid=1

My browser kept going to Your Privacy Guard. After Googling that, I was brought to this website and another person with a similar problem. I started to follow the directions given to that person, but thought I should get personalized help. I have run Spybot, saved a Hyjack This file, downloaded smithfraudFix (saved file) and AVG.

Here is another pop-up I keep getting. "Security Warning Worm.Win32.NetSky detected on your machine"... If I click on 'yes' it also trys to take me to www.safenavweb.com. The site never comes up.

I really hope you can help.

I will post my Hyjack This file and the smithfile.

Welcome to the forum. Lets run a different program because the one you ran didn't find all the malware files.

-------------------

1. Download RVAXO.exe to your desktop.

2. Double click on RVAXO.exe and choose unzip.
It will install to a folder called Rvaxo.

3. Now open up the Rvaxo folder and double click on RVAXO.cmd

You will see a small window pop up, and quickly some lines will run , then the window will close by itself, this is normal behavior.
Then it is possible for an uninstaller of some roque scanner to start up, do not close this but follow all prompts there, and let it run its course.

4. When it's done the computer will reboot.....press any key to reboot.

5. After reboot RVAXO will run again, let it finish

6. After it's done it will create a file called RVAXO-results.log in C:\RVAXO-results.log

7. Copy and paste it back here with a fresh HJT log.

Note:
You can use Uninstall.cmd to remove everything from RVAXO, it will be found in the RVAXO-folder on your desktop.

Please download and unzip Wscfix. You will now see two files: Wscsvcfix.exe and readme.txt. Double-click Wscsvcfix.exe to run the program. Click the Inspect and Fix button once, and then restart Windows for the changes to take effect. Note that this utility requires administrator credentials to run correctly.

Here's the new log. Also, what spyware/adware software should I run. Right now I have Spybot, AVG and the SuperAntiSpyware you had me install, in addition to my Norton Anit-Virus. Just want to make sure I'm properly protected and I want to get rid of the programs I don't need.

Thank you so much for all your help.

Looks Good.

If you have any questions - please post back

I'll leave you with........

Some Preventive Maintenance:

Some of the programs you may have run create backups of what was deleted - you can safely delete them now: (delete folders in blue) You can also delete/uninstall the programs themselves.

C:\!KillBox (KillBox)
C:\VundoFix Backups (VundoFix)
C:\QooBox (ComboFix)
C:\SDFix\backups\backups.zip (SDFix)
C:\avenger\backup.zip (Avenger)

If you used AVG Anti-Spyware and/or SuperAntiSpyware...........

Open up SuperAntiSpyware > Preferences > General and Start-up > Start-up Options > Uncheck > Start SAS when Windows Starts.
"SAS free" provides no real time protection so there's no need for it to be running, I suggest you keep the program and update regularly - you can use it to scan for malware. It's an excellent program. When you want to start it - just double click on the SAS icon.

AVG Anti-Spyware will provide 30 days of real time protection and then after that you can use it to scan for malware - you'll have to manually update it first.

------------------Must have or do:-----------------

Now that you're clean: <----Important Step!!!!
Delete your system restore files and create a new restore point (XP only):

Note: This will remove all previous Restore Points!

1. Turn off System Restore:

On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.
Restart your computer,

2. Turn on System Restore:

On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
UnCheck Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Visit Windows Update and install all the lastest critical updates.

Install these two free programs, they sit in the backround and protect your system from spy and adware being installed on your system, also from your browser being hijacked.

SpywareBlaster Check for updates weekly.

SpywareGuard

IE-SPYAD
Puts over 5000 sites in your restricted zone, so you'll be protected when you visit innocent-looking sites that aren't actually innocent at all.

Need a free anti virus?

How about a firewall? The front door to your computer.
Windows firewall is not suffient...install a better one.

Keep those temp files off your system use
ATF Cleaner - hit "select all" then just uncheck "cookies" (uncheck cookies is optional - leave it checked if you want to delete all cookies) then "empty selected"
or
CCleaner
Uncheck "Cookies" under "Internet Explorer".
That will clear out all the temp files on the system.

Slow Computer - Check Here

Don't open e-mail attachments without first scanning them with an up-to-date anti virus program, even after doing that I would be very careful. Don't click on any executables in e-mails or any other links that you're not sure of.
Don't believe e-mails from your bank, financial institution, etc asking for personal informations - they're most likely fraudulent no matter how authentic they look.
Watch your surfing habits, don't click on or download anything you're not sure of. Don't install a program that hasn't been recommended by a reputable organization.

Thank you so much again! I do have another question. I see that you suggest using Firefox as opposed to IE. I actually don't use IE that much, my main browser is Netscape 9 (I do know Netscape is closely related to Firefox). I mostly use IE when something doesn't agree with Netscape. For example, I print grocery coupons and sometimes the coupon printers don't like to work in Netscape. I actually don't like IE at all. Do you think switching to Firefox would eliminate needing the 2 browsers? I would assume that Firefox is as easy to use as Netscape, right? Always that fear of something new. Another question. Is paying for Norton Antivirus better than the free Antivirus programs? My subscription will be up soon and I sure don't want to pay for something I can get free. But on the other hand, I have no problem paying for something if it's worth it. Thanks for all the info! I actually was using SpywareBlaster and Spyware Guard, but both mysteriously disappeared when this problem started. They are all downloaded again.

Honestly I use IE...tried FireFox but I didn't like it - not because it's no good but I just couldn't get use to using it.
Netscape 9...I know nothing about
You should ask that question HERE

On this computer right now all I have is AVG Anti Virus free, a firewall, SpywareBlaster and SpywareGuard.

I have SuperAntiSpyware free as a scanner for malware....it provides no real-time protection though.
Most people consider Norton a hog...uses too much resources....try AVG AV free.
If you want more add SAS or AVG-AS...you'll have to pay for them if you want more real-time protection.
