First I want to say great site. Thansk for letting me be part of it.

Now to the problem"

I keep getting this pop up that

"windows has detected spyware infection!"
"It is reccomended to use a special antispyware tools to prevent data loss.
Windows will now download and install the most up to date
antispyware for you."

"Click here to protect your computer from spyware."

I know this is malware, and I can't get rid of it.

Ther is also a windows security alert on my desktop tha I can't get rid of. I have used my "windows defender", ad-aware",Norton and nothing seems to affect it. Why?

I'm very dissapointed about that.

I also can't find my control panels folder.

Can you help me?

I have copied the hijack this log file:

Thanks you very much-you rock!

If you think you have similar problems, please post a log in the HJT forum and wait for help.

Hi Eagledrum,

I'm Gary R, I'll be glad to help you with your computer problems.

Please observe these rules while we work:
  • Perform all actions in the order given.
  • If you don't know, stop and ask! Don't keep going on.
  • Please reply to this thread. Do not start a new topic.
  • Stick with it till you're given the all clear.
  • Remember, absence of symptoms does not mean the infection is all gone.
If you can do these things, everything should go smoothly.
  • Please note you'll need to have Administrator privileges to perform the fixes. (XP accounts are Administrator by default)
OK, gonna need a little more information before we start to clean you up.

Download Deckard's System Scanner (DSS) to your Desktop. (Note: You must be logged onto an account with administrator privileges).
  • Close all applications and windows.
  • Double-click on dss.exe to run it, and follow the prompts.
  • When the scan is complete, two text files will open - main.txt <- this one will be maximized and extra.txt<-this one will be minimized
  • Copy/Paste the contents of main.txt and extra.txt into your next post please.
Hey Gary,

Thank you so much for all your help.

Here is the log file.

Hey Gary, How's your night going? Anyway, Did I mention that I can't find the Control Panel folder. At least not on my desktop. If I go to my wife's desktop I can find it but not on my own.
That's what the Regfix should attend to.

After you've run it you should be able to access Control Panel, which is why I placed it as the first thing for you to do.

Sorry I'm late getting back to you, it was 12.15 when I posted my instructions to you, so I turned in as soon as I'd posted.

If you can't get the RegFix.reg to run.

Run a scan with HJT and when finished check the following items (if found).

O7 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System, DisableRegedit=1

Now close all open windows and click Fix Checked to remove them.

Then run RegFix.reg again.
Hi Gary, I'm sorry that I didn't get back to you earlier. I have been out of town. Just got back a day ago. I did what you said. I got my control panel back. I ran the software that you suggested. I could not run the in 'safe mode' because I could only get inot 'administrator' desktop and not my own desktop. I ran them anyway. I got rid of 'viewpoint' I didn't have time yet to run the reports and post them here. But I'm feeling like I got rid of evrything that was afflicting my computer. Do I need to keep "smitfraud"? I know that you said that it conflicts with 'windows defender"? I would also like to keep 'AVG' and run that along with my 'norton' and 'ad-aware'. I was quite impressed with 'AVG'. What do you think. Gary, thanks for all your help. You rock man!
