I'm trying to clean up a heavily infected computer. It's running Win XP SP2. The Norton Anti-Virus subscription expired in March and the computer needs help (as do I). I'v run AVG anti-virus and Anti-spyware, Superantispyware, Kaspersky Online Scan, Trojan Hunter, Smitfraudfix, Combofix, and Hijackthis. I am attaching my logs and would appreciate guidance in getting this cleaned up. I was unable to get Panda Online Scan to run on the computer. Your help will be greatly appreciated.- JM

Welcome to the Forums.

The fixes we will use are specific to your problems and should only be used for this issue on this machine.

Please only use this topic to reply to. Do not start another thread.
If any other issues arise let me know.
The process is not instant. Please continue to review my answers until I tell you your machine is clear. Absence of symptoms does not mean that everything is clear. So lets do this to the end!
  • All hijackthis logs I ask for should be done in normal mode ( not safe mode)
  • These logs should be done last after you have followed my instructions in the previous post.

Please if you decide to seek help at another forum let us know. There is a shortage of helpers and tying 2 of us up is a waste of time.
If you have any questions about any advice given here please STOP and ask!

Your running 2 anti virus programs. This is never a good idea. As they will conflict with each other and cause problems, slow the machine way way down.
I recommend you remove one through add remove programs now.
Seeings you do not have a subscription to nortons any longer I would uninstall that one NOW!

Download SDFix and save it to your Desktop.

Double click SDFix.exe and choose Install to extract it to its own folder on the Desktop. Please then reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
  • Restart your computer
  • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
  • Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu with options should appear;
  • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press "Enter".
  • Choose your usual account.
  • In Safe Mode, right click the SDFix.zip folder and choose Extract All,
  • Open the extracted folder and double click RunThis.bat to start the script.
  • Type Y to begin the script.
  • It will remove the Trojan Services then make some repairs to the registry and prompt you to press any key to Reboot.
  • Press any Key and it will restart the PC.
  • Your system will take longer that normal to restart as the fixtool will be running and removing files.
  • When the desktop loads the Fixtool will complete the removal and display Finished, then press any key to end the script and load your desktop icons.
  • Finally open the SDFix folder on your desktop and copy and paste the contents of the results file Report.txt back onto the forum.

My Web Search

AdwareRemover2007 Listed as a rogue program in the following link:

http://www.spywarewarrior.com/rogue_anti-s…re.htm#products

weather bug

WeatherBug is a system tray icon that offers weather information and includes built-in ads. WeatherBug is controlled by AWS Convergence Technologies (weatherbugmedia.com). There is some controversy over whether WeatherBug should be targeted by anti-parasite software. AWS strongly deny their software is ‘spyware’, and by the definition used here, it is not, as it does not leak information back to its controlling servers. However, WeatherBug has in the past been silently installed by the FavoriteMan parasite and Freeze.com screensavers, and more recently has been bundled by software such as AIM and Blubster. This makes it ‘unsolicited’, and since it is installed to raise money for its creators through the built-in ads it is certainly ‘commercial’. So it does meet the definition for ‘parasite’: unsolicited commercial software. It is nonetheless listed as a borderline case because it is not overtly harmful and many people do install it deliberately. WeatherBug bundles the MySearch parasite in its standalone distribution and has in the past, installed Gator and SVAPlayer.

I recommend that you uninstall WeatherBugand choose one of these alternatives:
Weather Pulse
Weather Watcher
or
Get mozilla Firefox and then get FORECASTFOX!!!
or check the weather at these websites:
Weather Street: US Weather
Intellicast
To uninstall WeatherBug:
  • Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  • In Control Panel, double-click Add or Remove Programs.
  • In Add or Remove Programs, highlight WeatherBug, click Remove.
  • Close the Add or Remove Programs and the Control Panel windows.
This is the item to fix in HijackThis:

Submit a file to Jotti
Please go here : http://virusscan.jotti.org/
On top of the page there is a field to add the filepath, copy and paste these filepaths: 1 at a time.

C:\Program Files\mrwwedwq\ydmqwwew.dll

Then hit Submit
The scan will take a while before the result comes up so please be patient.
Then copy the result and post it here in this thread.

If Jotti's service load is too high, you can use the following scanner instead:

In your next reply I would like to see:
  • A new HJT log
  • The report from S&D fix
  • The report from HJT UNINSTAL LIST
Hi, Bob4. I have started on the clean-up. I uninstalled Norton, as suggested, ran SDfix, did not locate YourPrivacyGuard or AdwareRemover 2007 in Add/Remove. (I think I had used Uninstall on AdwareRemover 2007 early on- but it did not actually remove the program.) I have uninstalled WeatherBug and will install another progran when we have cleaned up the computer.

I think that you had intended to list an item to fix with Hijack this, but it did not make it to your post. I am including the requested scan logs. An interesting quirk of this computer is that when I manage to enter the Safe Mode menu by tapping f8, the arrow keys do not work to select Safe Mode. Instead, I have to use msconfig and choose safeboot when I wish to work in Safe Mode. Thank you for your help!- JM

  • Double clcik the smitfraud.exe
  • When promted
    Press any key to continue.
  • Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press Enter
This program will scan large amounts of files on your computer for known patterns so please be patient while it works. When it is done, the results of the scan will be displayed and it will create a log named rapport.txt in the root of your drive, eg: Local Disk C: or partition where your operating system is installed. Please post that log along with any others I have asked for in your next reply.

Note : process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool"; it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user. When prompted by allow it to run

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run any other options until you are asked to do so!
If you do and smitfraud isn't present it will have undesirable effects

  • The report from AVG if available
Bob4- I reran the AVG anti-virus to be on the safe side. It was clean this time. I am attaching a report of what I could find in the vault from the old scan. I have followed your cleanup directions. I could not locate 3 steps- No C:\Documents and Settings\…users\local settings\temp to clean out- would this because of running ATF cleaner early on? I also could not do a reset of web settings on the programs tab in the Internet Options Programs tab- no button for it. Did not locate a security info on the web page tab under customize desktop/desktop tab/display/control panel.

Download and Install a HOSTS File
A Hosts file is a plain text file which prevents your computer from connecting to malware and spyware sites by redirecting the connection request to 127.0.0.1, which is your local address. If you use a proxy server, or if you are on AOL, be sure to read the special instructions.
You can download the MVPS Hosts File and see a HOSTS file tutorial here :

Bob4- Thanks for the great help. I've returned the computer to it's owner after tidying things up. I had a brief panic when a final run of AVG Anti-spyware revealed Trojan Zlob again. Turns out it's in the SDfix archive. Should one choose to delete the archive when given that option by AVG anti-spyware? Thanks ever so much.- JM :wavey:
