Do you use AOL? If not we can kill it
click Start> Run> type in Msconfig tap enter key.
look in the Startup.
Look for a item like this: If found, uncheck it and reboot.
C:\\PROGRA~1\\INSTAL~1\\{70093~1\\setup.exe -rebootC:\\PROGRA~1\\INSTAL~1\\{70093~1\\reboot.ini -l0x9"
"item"="setup"

After you uncheck it and rebooting, you'll be using Selective startup.
When you see the box popup that tells you that, just put a Check in the Box to not show that when you startup. That's how I run mine.
its already unchecked. i am ready to throw this thing out the window. i run virus scans and adware scans and spyware scans and heck i do everything i can to keep my computer from getting this carp** on it.
You can use msconfig and uncheck items a couple at a time and rebott. DO NOT uncheck your anti-virus or firewall unless you disconnect from the internet.

Remember which ones so you can put the check back if it isn't the problem.

I'm not seeing anything but lets do a online scan.

http://www.eset.eu/online-scanner
Go here to run an online scannner from ESET.
Note: You will need to use Internet explorer for this scan
Tick the box next to YES, I accept the Terms of Use.
Click Start
When asked, allow the activex control to install
Click Start
Make sure that the option Remove found threats is unticked, and the option Scan unwanted applications is checked
Click Scan
Wait for the scan to finish
Use notepad to open the logfile located at C:\Program Files\EsetOnlineScanner\log.txt
Copy and paste that log as a reply to this topic.
here are the results of the scan it took forever to run. it found one thing. # version=4 # OnlineScanner.ocx=1.0.0.56 # OnlineScannerDLLA.dll=1, 0, 0, 51 # OnlineScannerDLLW.dll=1, 0, 0, 51 # OnlineScannerUninstaller.exe=1, 0, 0, 49 # vers_standard_module=2639 (20071105) # vers_arch_module=1.058 (20070906) # vers_adv_heur_module=1.066 (20070917) # EOSSerial=8c5ca4aa99ff684b959688ae9bac19c9 # end=finished # remove_checked=false # unwanted_checked=true # utc_time=2007-11-06 03:46:48 # local_time=2007-11-05 10:46:48 (-0500, Eastern Standard Time) # country="United States" # osver=5.1.2600 NT Service Pack 2 # scanned=303821 # found=1 # scan_time=10059 C:\System Volume Information\_restore{BC7C1EE6-0816-4ACE-AF46-3EBBED1BA64E}\RP4\A0000605.exe probably unknown NewHeur_PE virus 00000000000000000000000000000000

C:\System Volume Information\_restore

This will take care of that.

You need to create a new Clean restore point.

Note: This will remove all previous Restore Points

Turn off System Restore:

On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Restart your computer, turn it back on.

On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Remove the Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

I'm not seeing anything else.
