I accidentally installed the Riyeo Codec a few weeks ago. I removed it the same day with help from this forum. Well, today I started getting hit by a bunch of pop-ups. I ran AVG anti-spyware and it found a Trojan, so I quarantined it. I'm still getting some pop-ups though. Here is my Hijack-This log.

Howdy Patio,

Infection showing here so let's do some removal steps.

Go to Start – Settings – Control Panel. Click on Add/Remove Programs. If any of the following programs are listed there, click on the program to highlight it, and click on Remove. Then close the Control Panel.

WebBuying

Then Download and run DELDOMAINS right click the link, and select Save Link/Target As) then double click to open the DelDomains.inf .To execute the file: right-click and Select 'Install' from the Menu. You may only see the desktop perhaps flicker when the fix makes the corrections.

(Note, if you use SpywareBlaster and/or IE/Spyads, it may be necessary to re-install the protection both afford. For SpywareBlaster, run the program and re-protect all items. For IE/Spyads, run the batch file and reinstall the protection.)

Next temporarily disable any protective software and Download ComboFix.exe from here to your desktop, and click the downloaded file to run the repair.

When the command window opens, select 1 (and Enter). Allow the scan to run. When completed a text window will appear - please copy/paste the contents back here. This log can also be found at C:\ComboFix.txt.

A caution - do not touch your mouse/keyboard until the scan has completed. The scan will temporarily disable your desktop, and if interrupted may leave your desktop disabled. If this occurs, please reboot to restore the desktop.

Also Go Here and download Silent Runners to your desktop. Run it, and post back here the log it creates. If your AV queries the script, allow it to run. It's not malicious. It will create a file named Startup Programs, and will notify when the scan is complete. Copy the log from the Startup Programs file back here.

Then post back a new HijackThis log, along with the combofix.txt log and the Silent Runners log please.

Alright I finally went through these steps...but I also gained "Security Toolbar 7.1" on my Internet Explorer which is very frustrating spyware. The steps I just went through did not remove this!

This system is very infected, and actually ComboFix removed quite a bit of tough rootkit infection. But more to go. I see you added Windows defender, which as you can tell did not bring improvements. If you would, please don't add other protective software while we complete these repair steps, since they really more interfere than assist. When doing these steps now be sure to disable ALL protective software temporarily, and disconnect from network access as well (if cable/dsl, physically disconnect the cable). We don't want to be repairing while infection returns itself through hidden download activity.

First you need to disable Windows Defender, as it may interfere with repairs.

* Open Windows Defender
* Click Tools
* Click General Settings
* Scroll down to Real Time Protection Options
* Uncheck Turn on Real Time Protection (recommended)
* After you uncheck this, click on the Save button
* Close Windows Defender

With protective software disabled and no net connection, open notepad (go to Start, Run, type notepad and press Enter) and copy/paste the text in the codebox below into it:

Save this as "CFScript"

(include the "quotation marks" with the name)

Posted Image

Referring to the picture above, drag CFScript.txt into ComboFix.exe

ComboFix will now run as it did before.

--------------------------------

Then reconnect to net access, and as you already have it open and update AVG AntiSpyware, but don't scan just yet.

Go Here and download ATF cleaner. Click on the downloaded file to run it, and select "Select All", then click Empty Selected (and close ATF).

If you have them, also click on Firefox/Opera at the top and repeat the steps (and close ATF). Firefox/Opera will need to be closed first for the cleaning to be effective.

==================================

When you have done this, boot into Safe Mode (restart your computer and tap F8 continuously as it restarts).

Run AVG Anti-Spyware now. First click on Settings > Recommended Action and change it to Quarantine. Next look at Reports and uncheck "Only if threats were found". Don't change any other settings.

Click on the "Scan" tab and click on "Complete System Scan" to begin scanning. When the scan is finished, look at "Set all elements to" and click to change to "Quarantine" if this option is not displayed. Click on "Apply All Actions" and then click the "Save Report" button at the bottom of the screen. Click on "Save Report As" and save the report to your desktop. Close AVG Anti-Spyware and reboot.

=================================

I also would like an additional registry check here.

@ECHO OFF
if exist winkey.txt del winkey.txt
REG QUERY "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Session Manager" /v BootExecute > winkey.txt
notepad winkey.txt
Open Notepad (Start - Run, type notepad and press Enter).

Copy/paste the above text into the open text box, then save this to your desktop as "bootheck.bat"

Be sure to include the "" quotes in the name. Then click on bootcheck.bat. When the scan completes a textbox will open - copy/paste those contents back here please along with the ComboFix.txt log and the AVG log please.

Here's the logs, but AVG would not make a report for some reason. I changed the settings and it usually does make a report. But this time it didn't. It also delete everything even though it is set to quarantine. It found 17 cookies and "Rootkit" or something like that. Sorry for the lack of detailed info.

Also I have SmitfraudFix, which was suggested with a previous problem. That's not a trojan or something? I saw something about it on other boards, but I think I may have been reading them wrong.

SmitFraud is a specific infection, and of course SmitFraudFix is a specific removal tool - had that infection shown here we surely would have applied it. Much improved, though one repeat file and that reg setting appears to be not quite an accurate view of things - it should show as this (the difference, though it looks minor, is significant):

autocheck autochk *\

We'll return the default on that which should override any unwanted changes.

As you are about to make registry changes, you will need to backup the registry to have if needed. Go to Start->Run and type in regedit and hit OK. Go to File->Export and save the registry somewhere as a backup (not to a temp folder). Close the Registry Editor. This is just a smart precaution when making changes to the registry.

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager]
"BootExecute"=hex(7):61,00,75,00,74,00,6f,00,63,00,68,00,65,00,63,00,6b,00,20,\
  00,61,00,75,00,74,00,6f,00,63,00,68,00,6b,00,20,00,2a,00,00,00,00,00
Open Notepad and copy and paste the above text (inside the box) into the text file. Now go to File > Save As and call it bootfixer.reg. Where it says "Files of Type", select All Files and click on Save. Exit Notepad, double-click on the file and ok the prompt asking if you wish to merge the file with your registry.

------------------------------

Open notepad (go to Start, Run, type notepad and press Enter) and copy/paste the text in the codebox below into it:

File::
C:\WINDOWS\system32\qqstv.bak1

Save this as "CFScript"

(include the "quotation marks" with the name)

Posted Image

Referring to the picture above, drag CFScript.txt into ComboFix.exe

ComboFix will now run as it did before.

---------------------------------------

Update AVG again, then again run a complete Safe Mode scan, and let's see if you can create the report from that this time round.

Then reboot to normal mode, and pots back that AVG log along with the combofix.txt log please.
