System gets bogged down & display won't refresh

Computer gets very bogged down, especially when using browsers [Netscape 7.1
and MSIE: Internet Explorer v7.00 (7.00.6000.16544)], the display won't refresh;
quickly have to reboot - very frustrating! Something's not right here...

(Note: I've tried to uninstall the extra ISP software, Earthlink TotalAccess, with no luck; it just dropped out of the Installed Software list in Control Panel.)

Very appreciative of any help.

Howdy trillium3, Welcome to WTT. No infection showing here, and it does sound like you have Earthlink troubles more than anything else. To the best of my knowledge what you are calling "uninstall the extra ISP software" is actually intrinsically tied in with much of your web access processes, and removal of parts of that can lead to loss of net access/email access. Not something new as far as problems and Earthlink, I'm afraid, but your first approach for solutions might be to contact your ISP support for their walk-through suggestions.
