hi rumdup,

first we will use hjt, then get and run a download.

scan with HJT, put a checkmark beside the items below, close all windows and click fix checked.

O3 - Toolbar: Security Toolbar - {11A69AE4-FBED-4832-A2BF-45AF82825583} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\nniitvac.dll
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SearchIndexer] rundll32.exe "C:\WINDOWS\system32\xphkhpaw.dll",sitypnow
---------------------------
next:
Download SDFix and save it to your Desktop.

http://downloads.and...Tools/SDFix.exe

Double click SDFix.exe and it will extract the files to %systemdrive%
(Drive that contains the Windows Directory, typically C:\SDFix)

Please then reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :

* Restart your computer
* After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
* Instead of Windows loading as normal, the Advanced Options Menu should appear;
* Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press Enter.
* Choose your usual account.

* Open the extracted SDFix folder and double click RunThis.bat to start the script.
* Type Y to begin the cleanup process.
* It will remove any Trojan Services and Registry Entries that it finds then prompt you to press any key to Reboot.
* Press any Key and it will restart the PC.
* When the PC restarts the Fixtool will run again and complete the removal process then display Finished, press any key to end the script and load your desktop icons.
* Once the desktop icons load the SDFix report will open on screen and also save into the SDFix folder as Report.txt
(Report.txt will also be copied to Clipboard ready for posting back on the forum).
* Finally paste the contents of the Report.txt back on the forum with a new HijackThis log.
--------------------------------------
post a new hjt log and the sdfix log please.

i see antivirus but no antispyware (malware) app on your computer. i can suggest one for you.

hi rumdup,

ok thanks for the info. please do a online scan here:

-----------------------------------------------------
F-secure scan:
http://support.f-sec.../home/ols.shtml

uses Internet Explorer only

click on the "start scanning button" near bottom of page.
click to accept/install the ActiveX applet
"accept" the License Agreement, click "full system scan"
Once the download completes,the scan will begin automatically.Download may take awhile
The scan will take some time to finish.
When the scan completes, click the Automatic cleaning (recommended) button.

Click the Show Report button and Copy&Paste the entire report in your next reply along with a current HijackThis log.
-----------------------------------------------------

The two programs I have are NoAdaware and XoftspySE

iam not familiar with those two, one of them at one time was listed in this database:

http://www.spywarewa...nti-spyware.htm

i would stick with one of these:
http://www.spywarewa...htm#trustworthy

i like superantispyware. i would uninstall those other two via the add/remove programs panel, but thats up to you. if you get superantispyware do this:

Please download SUPERAntiSpyware Home Edition:

http://www.superanti...ANTISPYWAREFREE

download, install, follow the install wizard. update and scan. after the scan you can get a report like this:

To retrieve the removal information - please do the following:

* After reboot, double-click the SUPERAntispyware icon on your desktop.
* Click Preferences . Click the Statistics/Logs tab .
* Under Scanner Logs , double-click SUPERAntiSpyware Scan Log .
* It will open in your default text editor (Notepad).
* Please highlight everything , then right-click and choose copy.
* Click close and close again to exit the program.

Now please paste the removal information along with a new HijackThis log in your reply. If it's a large log, you may need several replies to post it.

please post the online scan log and the super...log and a new hjt log
lets see what the scans can dig up.

hi rumdup,

ok good. lets run two more apps to help clean up and as a check:

download and run vundofix.exe:

http://www.atribune..../click.php?id=4

* Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
* Click the Scan for Vundo button.
* Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
* You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
* Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
* When completed, it will prompt that it will reboot your computer, click OK.
* Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt and a new HiJackThis log.

Note: It is possible that VundoFix encountered a file it could not remove.
In this case, VundoFix will run on reboot, simply follow the above instructions starting from "Click the Scan for Vundo button." when VundoFix appears at reboot.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

and the first part of smitfraud:

Download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri) to your Desktop:

http://www.bleepingc...mitfraudfix.php

Extract all the files to your Destop. A folder named SmitfraudFix will be created on your Desktop.
Open the SmitfraudFix folder and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press Enter

This program will scan large amounts of files on your computer for known patterns so please be patient while it works. It will create a file named: c:\rapport.txt

stop at this point and post a HijackThis log along with the contents of the c:\rapport.txt.

Note : process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool"; it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.
---------------------------------
post the vundo and smitfraud logs please.

Well everything seems to be fine with a few exceptions: 1. When I try clicking on the notification link that you have replied to my post, I get a window that opens up that says execute browser link. I have to literally at times copy and paste the link into firefox in order to get to the post. 2. I have Kaspersky internet/antivirus and I keep getting a pop-up that says that my key is blacklisted and to enter new key # or purchase another key. As far as I know, my program is still good for another 99 days or so.

hi rumdup, ok good. your questions: 1) some e-mail clients prevent direct clicking of links from within the email message. its a good thing actually with all the spam/malware tricks out there. much safer to copy/paste in the browser. 2) you have a legit copy of the AV? how did you get the "key" keys that get passed around on the internet are quickly blacklisted by the vendors. have you contacted Kaspersky support about it. read the FAQ at there website. shelf life

To be honest, my key was obtained from a torrent. I would like to also do a hijack check on my laptop. after we resolve this case, is it possible to insure my system is free of malware/spyware? Thank you. :lol:

hi rumdup,

[my key was obtained from a torrent

alot of cracks/keygens etc are really trojans. want to see some videos. see this link on my website:
http://security-cent...rojan video.htm

any serials or license keys floating around are quiclky blacklisted by the vendor as you found out. it takes money to produce and upkeep software. most software has trial versions you can try out first-- if you like it then you should support it by paying for it.

is it possible to insure my system is free of malware/spyware?

for somethings yes, others ,IE: rootkits no.

if all is ok we can make new restore points

hi rumdup,

One of the features of Windows ME or XP is the System Restore option, however if a malware infects a computer with this operating system it can be backed up in the System Restore folder. Therefore, clearing the restore points is agood idea after malware is removed.

To reset your restore points, please note that you will need to log into your computer with an account which has full administrator access. You will know if the account has administrator access because you will be able to see the System Restore tab. If the tab is missing, you are logged in under a limited account.

(winXP)

1. Turn off System Restore. (deletes old possibly infected restore point)
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

2. Reboot.

3. Turn ON System Restore.(new restore points on a clean system)
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
UN-Check *Turn off System Restore*.
Click Apply, and then click OK, then reboot
