Hi rasta

Welcome to the TomCoyote Forums
My name is mschroe919 and I am going to read your log.
I would like to help you So if you would….
Please be patient and I will be back as soon as possible.
If you still need help. please post back, to let me know.
Also how your PC is behaving at this point.
I will be looking for your post back.
Thanks mschroe919

PS
When you post back can you tell me if this is your IP
NameServer = 213.0.184.85 213.0.184.88
Hi Mschroe919, Your help would be greatly appreciated, thanks for your reply. The lap top is an acer aspire 1300xc and it's behaviour at present is eratic to say the least: - Internet connection cannot be firewalled - Norton Antivirus's icon takes ages to appear on screen on Startup and when it eventually does, Norton Antivirus desactivates itself. - Computer in general erratic: Clicking on Start and no box appears, connection box appears sometimes,… This all happened after some friends used the computer to check emails using MSN, which we don't use at all. After this, we found we had a virus called itunes.ff which we manually deleted. We then did an online scan with Kaspersky which detected 2 trojans: Trojan.Win32.DNSChanger.ef and Trojan.Win32.Lipgame.am. The system restore and Spybot Search & Destroy were unable to open because the Framedyn.dll was not found. We've since repaired this problem and they are now functionning fine. The first is evidently in local settings\temp and the other in System volume Information\restore. We've searched the computer many times in safe mode and cannot find these anywhere. We've scanned the computer with Norton Antivirus (latest updates) and also with AVG Free - nothing. We've also downloaded ZoneAlarm since the computer's firewall is not working. If the IP Name Server is the same as the IP Address, then the number you quote isn't correct. I look forward to hearing from you, Many thanks, Rasta.
Hi rasta

welcome back to the Tom Coyote Forum. Sorry about the delay, we have been very busy. And can't get back to all the logs as soon as we like. I have read your log and there is a few thing we have to do.

But first back to the IP: 213.0.184.85 I asked you about. Not knowing where you are
this is where te IP is that is listed:

IP: 213.0.184.85
Country: Spain
City: Madrid, Madrid

Country Code: ES
Currency: EUR [euros]
Private IP? No
Known Proxy? No

Are you anywhere near here? And could it be you provider?

NEXT:
Lets run at least two of these online virus scans (Or more if you wish.), reboot after each scan:

eTrust<<<'Cure' whatever is found, then delete if unsuccessful

Housecall<<
Panda ActiveScan<<
If the above find things to clean, please re-run them to be sure the infections are gone. If not, please tell me what could not be cleared out.

After running the Free scans let reboot and Open HijackThis.exe

Run hijackthis. Hit None of the above, Click Do a System Scan Only. Put a Check in the box on the left side on these:

O16 - DPF: {33331111-1111-1111-1111-615111193427} -
O16 - DPF: {CT id=e codeBase=http://www.www2.p0rt2.com/files/epl29bf2.cab classid=clsid:33331111-1111-1111-1111-615111193427} -
O18 - Filter: text/html - (no CLSID) - (no file)

Close ALL windows and browsers except HijackThis and click "Fix checked"

Reboot once again and get another HJT log and post it here.
Also let me know about the IP again.
Good luck mschroe919
Hi Mschroe919,
Many thanks for your reply and advice.

We live in Andalucia, Spain. Our internet Provider is Ya.com and the IP is [removed]. However, the last 4 numbers seem to be changing daily. Is this normal? Ya.com is actually based in Madrid if that's any help. Tried to ring them to find out more but their line is constantly busy.

We've done 2 scans: etrust didn't find anything. Panda ActiveScan which found 1 virus, 9 spywares, 2 dialer, 1 unwanted tool. Please find below the scan result and Hijackthis log:

Hi rasta

First off I don't know why I missed it first. I most always catch this first:
You have 2 Anti Viruses running.
C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\Internet Security 2006\pccguide.exe"
C:\Program Files\Norton SystemWorks

Read:
"Having more than one antivirus program active in memory uses additional resources and can result in program conflicts and false virus alerts." Microsoft also discourages Windows XP users from running multiple antivirus programs.

You can have 2 but only let one run.

Please disable one from running.

This app too may fire off a warning from antivirus. Let the driver load.
Wait for it to finish.

Hi Mschroe919, Many thanks for your answer. I have done as you asked and nothing was detected on the Scan. Please see below logfile: 10/03/06 14:16:19 [Info]: BlackLight Engine 1.0.47 initialized 10/03/06 14:16:19 [Info]: OS: 5.1 build 2600 (Service Pack 1) 10/03/06 14:16:20 [Note]: 7019 4 10/03/06 14:16:20 [Note]: 7005 0 10/03/06 14:16:26 [Note]: 7006 0 10/03/06 14:16:26 [Note]: 7011 1236 10/03/06 14:16:26 [Note]: 7026 0 10/03/06 14:16:26 [Note]: 7026 0 10/03/06 14:16:48 [Note]: FSRAW library version 1.7.1020 10/03/06 14:17:29 [Note]: 2000 1012 10/03/06 14:17:29 [Note]: 2000 1012 10/03/06 14:18:08 [Note]: 7007 0 Many thanks, Rasta.
Hi rasta,
Welcome back you are doing well.
First off:
Did you do anthing about this?:

First off I don't know why I missed it first. I most always catch this first:
You have 2 Anti Viruses running.
C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\Internet Security 2006\pccguide.exe"
C:\Program Files\Norton SystemWorks

NEXT:
We need to make all files vissable, Here is how:

After closing the registry reboot and get another HJT log and post it here. Also
tell me how your PC is behaving at this time.

Good luck mschroe919
Hi Mscroe919,

Thanks again for your advice and help. Greatly appreciated.

Regarding the antivirus, yes, I had already uninstalled Norton Antivirus when I installed Pc-Cillin. And I further uninstalled Symantec system works before doing the online F-Secure blacklight scan, to be sure.

I also downloaded Window Washer and "washed" the computer while waiting to hear from you. Before following your last instructions, I have uninstalled it so as not to interfere with your instructions.

Followed your intructions - Steps 1-10. Downloaded ATF cleaner and it emptied the selected.

Then went to: C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files\startbf2.inf but there was no such file: startbf2.inf

Deleted Need2Find from the Registry, no problem.

The computer is very slow on start up, but it could be because I have now PC-Cillin and Zone Alarm on the laptop. I still cannot create a firewalled internet connection. The connection is created but without being firewalled. I keep getting the following error message:

The creation of the firewall failed with the following error: error execution failed.

When I connect to the internet, the internet connection icon appears on the taskbar ages after it has actually connected, and it used to appear almost immediately.

Hi rasta,
Everything seems to to be going well?
Only a few more things to do:

To help speed up your PC easpecialy on start up, lets do this:

Please download System Security Suite. Extract it from the zip file into a folder.here.
http://www.forums.security-central.us/showthread.php?t=318

When at this site it would help to read it over.

Run 3S under “Items To Clear” tab place a checkmark in all of them but the last.
One more time a new HJT log
There will be one more thing to do after I see the new log.
When posting the new log let me know if your PC is begining to make you happy.
And if not why?
Good luck mschroe919
Hi Mscroe919,

Thanks again for your help. I've downloaded the 3S and cleared the computer as instructed. Please find below the HJTlog:

The computer unfortunately is still running the same. It looks like that Zone Alarm takes a while to boot up and could be the cause. But I am not too worry about that so much. What concerns me the most is that I still cannot create a firewalled internet connection. In fact, it takes ages to bring up Properties for an internet connection, and to even delete it. And I never used to have this problem. If you think that I don't have any nasties left on my computer, could it be that the viruses I had might have corrupted the Internet connexion files?

Also, could you let me know which Antivirus and firewall you would recommand using so as to avoid this rehappening?

I look forward to hearing from you.

Many thanks again for your patience, your clear instructions and your help. Greatly appreciated.

Rasta.
Hi rasta;

The computer unfortunately is still running the same. It looks like that Zone Alarm takes a while to boot up and could be the cause. But I am not too worry about that so much. What concerns me the most is that I still cannot create a firewalled internet connection.

I just notice this too!
YOU GOT TWO FIREWALLS RUNNING?
C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\Internet Security 2006
C:\Program Files\Zone Labs\ZoneAlarm
I just notice that the internet security 2006 has a fire wall too. and I see it is running and bucking against zone alarm.
Not having experience with the internet security 2006 firewall.
If I were you I would for now uninstall Zone alarm, see how that works.
Then later disable internet security 2006 firewall, and reinstall zone alarm, and see which is better.
========================================
Also 2 more things:
(1) You haven't updated your XP, from
Windows XP SP1 to
Windows XP SP2
This is important cause with xp SP1 your Internet explorer is out of date.
You can get the up dates here:
http://update.microsoft.com/windowsupdate/…t.aspx?ln=en-us
==================================
(2) your Java is out of date too.
NEXT:
Your Java needs to be updated.

Update the Java at:
http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp
Be sure you uninstall all old versions first!
========================
After all this just post back how your PC is doing.
No need for another log.
Good luck mschroe919
Hi Mscroe919, Thanks so much for your reply. 1) Regarding the firewalls. Yes I have 2 running at the moment: - PC-Cilin: C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\Internet Security 2006 - Zone Alarm: C:\Program Files\Zone Labs\ZoneAlarm But, my inbuilt XP firewall doesn't appear to be working since the start of all these problems, and that's why I downloaded Zone Alarm to protect the computer while sorting it out. And that's also the reason why I thought I had something seriously wrong with the computer. Now, do you think that the fact that the inbuilt firewall is not functioning is not a problem and that I can use one of the above firewall instead? 2) I tried to update to SP2 last year but while doing so, my computer crashed! So that's why I have stayed away from SP2. I was also told after this incident not to bother with SP2 as it is not working properly….?? I look forward to hearing your thoughts on this, and in the mean time I will update my Java and uninstall Zone Alarm. Many thanks again, Rasta.
Hello rasta

First of all I myself prefer a fire wall other than XP's. I believe the reason your
xp wasn't working is because of the ones you had working.

If I were you again I would try one more time:
http://update.microsoft.com/windowsupdate/…t.aspx?ln=en-us
when you go here make sure nothing else is open.
This site will read your PC to see what updates are needed, follow
the prompts.

If it doesn't work you can :
Also order FREE the SP2 on a cd from here:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloa…sp2cdorder.mspx

good luck mschroe919
Hi Mscroe919, I have now the lastest Java and I have uninstalled Zone Alarm. However I still get the same error message when I try to firewall my internet connection, but I will just ignore that problem and use PC-cillin firewall instead. Many thanks for having helped me cleaning out my computer of malwares and viruses. Greatly appreciated. All the very best, Rasta.
