Hello

You should have used a torrent program. They are generally safer than Limewire in that they download pieces of files from others rather than whole files.

Time for some housekeeping
  • Click START then RUN
  • Now type Combofix /u in the runbox and click OK. Note the space between the x and the /u, it needs to be there.

    [external image: Posted Image]
  • When shown the disclaimer, Select "2"
The above procedure will:
  • Delete the following:
    • ComboFix and its associated files and folders.
    • VundoFix backups, if present
    • The C:\Deckard folder, if present
    • The C:_OtMoveIt folder, if present
  • Reset the clock settings.
  • Hide file extensions, if required.
  • Hide System/Hidden files, if required.
  • Set a new, clean Restore Point.
Navigate to and delete the following files and/or folders (if they are present):

Files:
c:\documents and settings\bodie foster\desktop\photos\nybfexpeis.sys

I see that Viewpoint is installed. Viewpoint, Viewpoint Manager, Viewpoint Media Player are Viewpoint components which are installed as a side effect of installing other software, most notably AOL and AOL Instant Messenger (AIM). Viewpoint Manager is responsible for managing and updating Viewpoint Media Player’s components. You can disable this using the Viewpoint Manager Control Panel found in the Windows Control Panel menu. By selecting Disable auto‑updating for the Viewpoint Manager ‑‑ the player will no longer attempt to check for updates. Anything that is installed without your consent is suspect. Read what Viewpoint says and make your own decision.

To provide a satisfying consumer experience and to operate effectively, the Viewpoint Media Player periodically sends information to servers at Viewpoint. Each installation of the Viewpoint Media Player is identifiable to Viewpoint via a Customer Unique Identifier (CUID), an alphanumeric identifier embedded in the Viewpoint Media Player. The Viewpoint Media Player randomly generates the CUID during installation and uses it to indicate a unique installation of the product. A CUID is never connected to a user's name, email address, or other personal contact information. CUIDs are used for the sole purpose of filtering redundant information. Each of these information exchanges occurs anonymously.

Viewpoint Manager is considered as foistware instead of malware since it is installed without user's approval but doesn't spy or do anything "bad". This may change, read Viewpoint to Plunge Into Adware.
I recommend that you remove the Viewpoint products; however, decide for yourself. To uninstall the the Viewpoint components (Viewpoint, Viewpoint Manager, Viewpoint Media Player):
  • Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  • In Control Panel, double-click Add or Remove Programs.
  • In Add or Remove Programs, highlight Viewpoint Media Player , click Remove.
  • Do the same for each Viewpoint component.
In much the same way the Ask Toolbar is considered bad too. you may want to remove that too. Ive tried it and found it intrusive. :(

Delete the older versions of Java and download the newest.
Please follow these steps to remove older version Java components.
  • Close any programmes you may have running, ESPECIALLY your web browser
  • Click Start > Control Panel.
  • Click Add/Remove Programs.
  • Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
  • Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
  • Repeat as many times as necessary to remove all versions of Java.
  • Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
Then download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) (4th one down the list), which is JRE6u3, and click Yes at the page warning, then accept the Licence Agreement before downloading the Offline file.

Make sure your Windows is ALWAYS up to date!

An unpatched Windows is vulnerable and even with the "best" Antivirus and Firewall installed, malware will find its way through.
So visit http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/ to download and install the latest updates.

Update your Antivirus programs and other security products regularly to avoid new threats that could infect your system.

Please check out Tony Klein's article "How did I get infected in the first place?"

Follow this list and your potential for being infected again will reduce dramatically.

I'd be grateful if you could reply to this post so that I know you have read it and, if you've no other questions, the thread can be closed
Hi Norton is an anti-virus. It is effective only against viruses. Spybot S&D is an anti-spyware. It will also protect your Registry warning you of changes and your Hosts file. Amongst others. :) Winpatrol is also another good program that will protect your browser from hijacks amongst other things, and also has a number of useful features, including a startup programs utility similar to using msconfig, but safer.
Hi Personally, on my wifes XP computer I have Spybot S&D and Winpatrol. But she is not a big surfer, and I use Linux. ^_^ It is recommended you scan with your anti-virus and anti-spyware programs at least once a week. Some people will have a lot of security programs, which could border on the edge of paranoia. Now, Spybot and Spyware Guard offer real-time continuous monitoring and protection, but like anti-virus's it's advised to only have one such scanner running so they do not conflict. But having to different programs to scan with is useful as some programs pick up stuff other programs dont, and vice-versa. Winpatrol will protect against hijacking, while Spywareblaster will protect against rogue ActiveX controls. So all four will provide, with your anti-virus, the complete protection package. Unfortunately, no one program does it all. Remember to check for updates every couple of days.
OK, thanks Scotty ;) You are free to close the thread now :P EDIT: Wait a sec, i just DL'd winpatrol and it says scotty is currently on patrol- is that you?
