Hello, :(

My computer has been working fine until I noticed when I would download anything using "Download Accelerator Plus (DAP)" in accelerator mode and then going to the file to open what I downloaded there was another file in the folder which was XXX rated. This being not what I had downloaded. In other words this downloaded itself so I deleted it. I later downloaded another file and the same thing happened so I deleted it again with no problems and Avast Pro did not pick up on it. I ran Avast Thorough Scan & that is when it found this Virus so I moved it into the Chest. I then followed all the instructions in Before Posting A Hijackthis Log forum. I have a very bad feeling about this Download Accelerator Plus (DAP) program so I want to remove it permanantly & if there is a safer & different & maybe even better download accelerator program other than the one mentioned above that maybe you can recomend it would be appreciated. THANK YOU IN ADVANCE FOR YOUR HELP!!

Here are the Logs,

hi Joecastle,

as far as i know DAP is now malware free. Are you sure that the websites that you are downloading from are ok?

better download accelerator program

really dont think its DAP thats the problem. in any case if you have a broadband connection (cable, DSL) you dont need a download accelerator. hjt log looks ok.

shelf life,

Thank you for your quick response.. I am sure of the websites that I am visiting. I just opened up DAP and in the download tab there are movie mpg's that I never downloaded. For some reason or another when I use it these mpg's are downloaded with what ever else I am downloaded.

It is good that the HJT log looks good. But is there something that needs to be done to remove Backdoor.SdBot.bdy. Avast has it in the chest.
Did AVG remove it completely?

hi Joecastle, anything thats quarantined by avg or avast is safe from messing with your computer. you should be able to delete them out of quarantine if you want to. those in here: C:\System Volume Information\_restore will be cleaned out when you make new restore points. somebody else maybe using your computer and downloading? shelf life

Yes, Things seem to be running as they should. If you can give instruction in the system restore that would be great!! I tried going in there but was unsure to what date to pick. The reason being & I do not remember exactly what date avast showed when the PC was infected. I remeber something like way back in 04/--/2007 according to avast. What do you suggest. I already posted my daughters logs before reading this post.. Thank You shelf life

hi,

ok good. we can delete any older restore points and make a new one like this:

One of the features of Windows ME or XP is the System Restore option, however if a malware infects a computer with this operating system it can be backed up in the System Restore folder. Therefore, clearing the restore points is agood idea after malware is removed.

To reset your restore points, please note that you will need to log into your computer with an account which has full administrator access. You will know if the account has administrator access because you will be able to see the System Restore tab. If the tab is missing, you are logged in under a limited account.

(winXP)

1. Turn off System Restore. (deletes old possibly infected restore point)
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

2. Reboot.

3. Turn ON System Restore.(new restore points on a clean system)
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
UN-Check *Turn off System Restore*.
Click Apply, and then click OK, then reboot
