I was looking for a way to get rid of all the viruses, etc. on my computer b/c it seems like nothing I install helps. I do have Limewire, so I'm guessing that's my problem. But even after I uninstalled it, I still have 56 processes running at startup, and 100% cpu usage, freezing, and full memory on my computer, which has to be impossible! I noticed a log from another user and started to follow it. I dowloaded smitfraudfix and did the safemode cleanup and copied the log it gave me then. Now, I was going to run combofix.exe, but I am unable to do so, I keep getting an error that i used the wrong url. please help! This is my log from smitfraud, I am not quite sure how to get the hijackthis log. Hi! Welcome to the WTT forums.
My name is Scotty. I would be glad to take a look at your log and help you with solving any malware problems. HijackThis logs can take a while to research.
Please be patient and I'd be grateful if you would note the following:
  • I will working be on your Malware issues, this may or may not, solve other issues you have with your machine.
  • The fixes are specific to your problem and should only be used for this issue on this machine.
  • Please continue to review my answers until I tell you your machine appears to be clear. Absence of symptoms does not mean that everything is clear.
  • It's often worth reading through these instructions and printing them for ease of reference.
  • If you don't know or understand something, please don't hesitate to say or ask!! It's better to be sure and safe than sorry.
  • Please reply to this thread. Do not start a new topic.

  • Save HJTsetup.exe to your desktop.
  • Double click on the HJTsetup.exe icon on your desktop.
  • By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Hijack This.
  • Continue to click Next in the setup dialogue boxes until you get to the Select Additional Tasks dialogue.
  • Put a check by Create a desktop icon then click Next again.
  • Continue to follow the rest of the prompts from there.
  • At the final dialogue box click Finish and it will launch Hijack This.
  • Click on the Do a system scan and save a log file button. It will scan and then ask you to save the log.
  • Click Save to save the log file and then the log will open in notepad.
  • Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
  • Come back here to this thread and Paste the log in your next reply.
  • DO NOT have Hijack This fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

Please make a uninstall list using HijackThis
To access the Uninstall Manager you would do the following:

1. Start HijackThis
2. Click on the Config button
3. Click on the Misc Tools button
4. Click on the Open Uninstall Manager button.
5. Click on the Save list… button and specify where you would like to save this file. When you press Save button a notepad will open with the contents of that file. Simply copy and paste the contents of that notepad here in a reply.

Yes thanks. Also,

Download and Run ComboFix
  • Download this file from below:

    Here
  • Disconnect from the Internet, than disable your anti-virus and any real-time anti-spyware monitors that are running.
  • Then double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
  • When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log in your next reply with a new HijackThis log.
Note 1: Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall
Note 2:Remember to re-enable your anti-virus and anti-spyware before reconnecting to the Internet.

Okay, so I'm really frustrated. I can't log into any web site, and if I try to follow a link or go to a website's url, it loads for like 5-10 minutes, and eventually gives me the server cannot be found page. I am getting that A LOT. What's the deal? Thanks!
Hi

Im not seeing any problems in the above logs, though running Snitfraudfix before I saw anything might not have helped. Ill try taking a deeper look.

Check your hosts file
  • Click on Start
  • Click on Run
  • Copy and paste the text in the codebox below. Be sure and include the word notepad

    notepad C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts
  • Click OK, notepad will then open with your host file
  • Copy and paste the whole hosts file in a reply
Now go to Start>Run and in the box, type cmd. A DOS like window will open up.

Copy/paste the following text into it.

ping microsoft.com >"%userprofile%\desktop\output.txt"

A text file will be created on your Desktop. Also post the contents of that file in your next reply, please.

BLACKLIGHT
  • Please download F-Secure Blacklight (fsbl.exe) from here
  • Save into C:\ with a name of fsbl.exe
  • Go to Start > Run
  • Copy and paste the contents of the below codebox into the run box
    C:\fsbl.exe /expert
  • Click OK
  • This will launch BlackLight
  • Select I accept the agreement
  • Click Next
  • Click Scan
  • Wait for the scan to finish
  • Click on Next>
  • Click Exit
  • A logfile will have been created in the C:\ drive
  • It will be named fsbl-xxxxxxxxxxxxxx.log where xxxxxxxxxxxxxx is the date and time of the scan
  • Use notepad to open that log
  • Post the contents of that log as a reply to this topic together with a new HijackThis log.

Hi

Your problem doesnt appear to be malware related. I would suggest you post in this room and let one of the Tech Team help you out.

Delete Combofix.exe and fsbl from your Desktop then navigate to and delete the following folders.

C:\Combofix
C:\Qoobox

Delete the older versions of Java and download the newest.
Please follow these steps to remove older version Java components.
  • Close any programmes you may have running, ESPECIALLY your web browser
  • Click Start > Control Panel.
  • Click Add/Remove Programs.
  • Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
  • Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
  • Repeat as many times as necessary to remove all versions of Java.
  • Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
Then download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) (4th one down the list), which is JRE6u2, and click Yes at the page warning, then accept the Licence Agreement before downloading the Offline file.

This is my usual speech for when you are clean, which you appear to be.

Please follow these simple steps in order to keep your computer clean and secure:
Disable and Enable System Restore.

It's also a good idea to Flush your System Restore points after ridding yourself of malware:
  • Click Start | Help and Support | Undo changes to your computer with System Restore.
  • Click Create A Restore Point then click Next. Give it a name it and then click Create, then Close.
  • Close the Help and Support Center box.
  • Click Start | Run and type Cleanmgr
  • Select (C: ) then click OK.
  • Click the More Options tab.
  • Click Clean Up in the System Restore Section.
This will remove all previous restore points except the newly created one.

Here are some free programs, I recommend.

Install Spyware Guard
Download it from here
Find here the tutorial on how to use Spyware Guard here

Install SpyWare Blaster
Download it from here
Find here the tutorial on how to use Spyware Blaster here

Install WinPatrol
Download it from here
Here you can find information about how WinPatrol works here

Make sure your Windows is ALWAYS up to date!

An unpatched Windows is vulnerable and even with the "best" Antivirus and Firewall installed, malware will find its way through.
So visit http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/ to download and install the latest updates.

Update your Antivirus programs and other security products regularly to avoid new threats that could infect your system.

Please check out Tony Klein's article "How did I get infected in the first place?"

Follow this list and your potential for being infected again will reduce dramatically.

Glad I was able to help.
